@Duesal those rituals take like 3000 people doing a thing each day to benefit a few warriors at most. The food one is worth it, and if we get the ill-intent one for scouts and the legionnaires to do it, that would be cool, but the rest are not worth it.

We already did mundane trade with Yarel, but what about asking for one to give Rina a few lessons on armour use?
We already have the food one. This ritual is to be given to the Night's Watch.

Draconic pride does not have an alignment, even metallics have it in full, though it manifests differently.
That only means it should have even less of an impact on our subconscious, not more.

It's particularly egregious when you look at Daenerys and realize she is using Tiamat's magic to turn into everything from kittens to angels and every sort of dragon in between. But you don't see super draconic pride doing anything to stymie that.

Actually, that is explicitly Not Tiamat's magic, but Dany's alone. It was designed to let her refill her spell slots over time without Tiamat, but then Dany robbed the bitch instead, so it only costs one gold per day.

Dany is not using Tiamt's magic, she is using her knowledge certainly, but Dany's source of power is the Targ connection to the dreams of every being that ever was is or will be. That's where the mutability comes from. further all Dany's dragon shapes are fake on some level, masks, no breath weapon no fear aura for instance.

  • [X] Trade with Mantarys
    -[X] What you ask:
--[X] Ask for copies of every book in their library.
--[X] That some time in the coming months the Codex Archon visits the Shadow Tower and imparts some of his lore to be added to your library.
--[X] Ask for the Blade of Conviction Ritual (Allows one melee or five arrows/warrior to posses ghost touch property for 1 hour per day, cannot be transferred between users; Cost to buy 7000 Gold)
    -[X] What you offer:
--[X] By now they should have seen that the Weirwood Heart Tree is not cursed and has some very useful effects. We could easily grow them more if they desired. The trees would be greatly beneficial to the people of Mantarys, as they no doubt already have been. Of course, they need to provide the items for sacrifice.
--[X] Copies of the same magic primers you plan to send to Maester Aemon so that they may set on the path of making Wizards and Archivists. Of course, it won't be anywhere near the same caliber of learning directly in the Scholarum, but nonetheless it could be useful for discerning which potential mages have the aptitude and which don't.
--[X] Loan them The Light of Creation so they may better deal with spirits of fire, to be returned after they've finished studying it.
--[X] Give them copies of The Pillars of Beauty and Rooted in Stone so they may better build their defenses against invaders from Slaver's Bay. Also give them a copy of the Song of the Broken Spheres just in case they're able to figure out what happened.
--[X] Offer them the Song of the Broken Vessel Ritual, and the Mind Purge Ritual
--[X] Offer to Blood Wish both fertility and longevity on any rare and exotic beasts they have and wish to breed, or even simpler beasts they require for the wellbeing of their citizens
    -[X] Other things:
--[X] Speak on trade between Mantarys and Sorcerer's Deep, what items would be most profitable to trade, what routes should be taken, etc.
--[X] Explain Amrelath's situation to the Archons. He was forcibly made into a dracolich, then imprisoned for millennia in the Shadow Tower. Recently he made a bargain to serve us for a number of years in exchange for freedom and to be restored to life. Due to his unique abilities as a dracolich we are considering using him to control the undead as well as fight the daemons themselves and thereby lessen the casualties that would otherwise occur.

It was a deliberate choice by the voters—Alter Self for Divine Insight. DP shouldn't be blamed for that.
No, we're arguing his WOG that Alter Self can't be used to take any draconic forms besides red from now on.

Doesn't change the fact that there's no "draconic pride" crippling her spells.

My point is that you're breaking the consistency of the story by infringing on how Viserys has been (consistently) played (and therefore characterized). Which is doubly grating when the players are the ones roleplaying him, which is something you yourself established as the bedrock of this quest since the first five posts or so of the quest.

As it's an Alter-self replicated via bloodwish or AA as opposed to being a (modified) spell Viserys knows directly.

One can argue that this is sufficient to loose the modified aspect of the spell, so Viserys can now look like any human, or any red dragon. :)

Edit: Viserys no longer has the spell himself. If we kept it, I would be agreeing about the wyrmling forms. But we did not.

If you have so much trouble reconciling it, then ignore it. It's not changing.

Use whatever mental justification you need. For me, it's simply that I can't recall a single instance in any D&D canon where a non-deific dragon assumed the form of any other type of dragon. That's what I had in mind when I proposed the limitation before our most recent level up. Many others agreed with me.

I thought it cost no gold, what it cost was that Dany had to spend 1 gold on something she wants each day, she told us in a chapter, that seeing as she's to a certain degree high priestess of herself, she's basically sacrificing that gold to herself, which mean while she can't just put it back in the treasury, she can spend it on such things as chocolate toys or other fun things for herself.

I hate that you keep getting in the way of my powergaming with all your "that dosen't make sense!" :p

Muh Draconic Senses

And you know what. I want Alter Self back. Viserys-man Vs Visery-dragon? Why not have the chap get a couple of pages of spell knowledge soon (mirror image/invisible) and get the spell back. Our level up is fluffed as Viserys' subconscious, so he wants the ability more than he is beholden to his pride :)

All true, but she needs a new piece of gold to make the saceafice to herself in the first place, which she then keeps or buys something she wants with.
One piece each time she refreshes her spells without using dreams to prep the individual ones.

Late one, but nevertheless - the Fimbulwinter spell I read costs 100XP to cast. That makes an item/scroll a little more expensive.

I know, my point was more that the gold isn't dissolved into nothing, it's spent on whatever Dany want that day, while from a totally mechanic focused perspective there's not much difference, from a story perspective, there's a big difference between it being part of Dany's spending money, and it being lost to the ether.

Of course at this point it's so small an amount as to not really matter, seeing as Dany has access to way more money than that whenever she want, but back when we were poorer, the difference between sacrificing a gold coin each day, and getting a gold coin to spend however she wanted each day, was significant, although not that much seeing as it only happened at Mantarys, and even then she had access to a good deal more money than that.

Part MCMLVI: In Search of Virtue
In Search of Virtue

Nineteenth Day of the Second Month 293 AC

Knowledge for knowledge you bargain for, offering books common and rare, rituals found and crafted for the lore of Mantarys. You ask not only for the knowledge the codex spirits brought with them, but also from those texts recovered from the demon callers that had been deemed safe to keep. To all these the bright guardian agrees readily and, though he hesitates a while longer in offering up the specter-bane ritual for such a trade, a brief explanation on the nature of the Night's Watch and the foe they face is enough to tip the scales. The offer of more weirwood trees is also accepted now that the first had proven its worth, though there are no further tainted artifacts to be offered as sacrifice for the moment. By the end of the month all will be in readiness.

Lore Trade agreed upon.

The deal done, you move on to more delicate matters of politics, explaining first your new relationships with Relath, which could hardly be hidden in any case. The news is met with some disapproval, for your duel for supremacy with the sea dragon serves as a reminder of how he subjugated the city by force alone. While the archons were pragmatic enough to work with Relath because it is clear that his rule was better than the one he overthrew, it is clear conquest for its own sake is not something they approve of.

You suppose you should be flattered that they are willing to not just tolerate your own actions in that vein but actively aid them, or perhaps it has more to do with the vices of Essosi magisters than your virtues. Regardless, you have no interest to rock the proverbial boat of your alliance more than it needs to be at least.

The news of Amrelath's nature and your intention to make use of his abilities in Tyrosh is first greeted with horror, then a lecture on the perils of undeath which you listen through patently before offering your counter starkly. "Is Hell fair even to the damned? For truly Amrelath has suffered more than most can imagine. He desires now nothing more than to be alive again, a wish I have every intention of granting as soon as I am able. Does he not deserve a chance to atone for age-old sins?"

"Does he wish to?"
comes the thoughtful answer.

"Not yet, but the realm I am building will have no place for the senseless malice of crimson wyrms. He will learn in time..." Or he will perish. Though the words are not spoken, they hang heavily between you.

"Beware that he remains an ally to aid and not a tool to use, then,"
the Archon replies, surprising you. The point is a fair one, you have to admit. Allying with someone because you think their vices can be tempered is an altogether different proposition to using 'tainted tools' in the full knowledge that they will never be more than that.

What do you do next?

[] Persuade Amrelath to write down his knowledge
-[] Write in reasoning

[] Deliver the Goods to Dalla now while you have the time

[] Write in

OOC: If you just plan to add those books to your hoard or read them yourself then you can just ask Amrelath directly, but he is going to need some persuasion to share his lore with the hairless monkeys.

@DragonParadox what would Viserys's thoughts be on giving the Legion some practice with +3 blades?
