I don't see why this can't be accomplished with her family safely in Sorcerer's Deep. She just expressed concerns of attracting the attentions of the more powerful magisters. She literally hides her eyes to go unnoticed. I think the offer would be well-received.

What she actually said was she didn't have the power to be able to afford attracting attention, luckily her cousin is Literally a Fucking Dragon.

I'm so happy with this development, 6 RL months it took but House Rogare finally shows itself and lo and behold we're both well positioned and dispositioned to help each other out :D

Rough draft. Thoughts?

[] Admit that you were already impressed with how relatively experienced with magic she was and her general competence, and were interested in offering her employment. That she is Lysene nobility and your distant cousin as well is just both of your good fortune, you suppose.
-[] You'd be willing to offer her entire family your protection, promise a quality education, as well as opportunities in the future to improve her house's fortune. The exact details can be settled later.
-[] As she said, the entire city must be...alarmed. This was much flashier than you had anticipated, so you'd greatly appreciate her acting as your messenger to those in power. You'd be willing to send along your companions Lord Malarys and Ser Richard to both ensure her safety and attest to the veracity of her claims.
-[] As to the message, include an apology for asking them to come to you in their own city, but you dare not leave the tree unattended until the matter is settled, lest some fool endanger the city by trying to set fire to it or chop it down.

Edit: I'd likely add on the already voted preparations at SD in case things go sour as well.

@DragonParadox
Could we truthfully add we were intending to look into her family?

I'm not sure if it came up IC but it's been discussed every time Lyseni politics was.

The bolded isn't a great idea, dulled by time and while Targaryens were not directly responsible she did just mention the last interaction of our houses with some negativity. We shouldn't lead with uncertainty of our own actions, capabilities, consequences etc.

@Diomedon, I agree with this point. We shouldn't ever let on that this wasn't entirely on purpose.

@Everyone, recall that Larra Rogare married Viserys Targaryen, the second of his name, and their offspring were, Aemon the Dragonknight, Nhaerys mother of Dareon the Good...
and Aegon the Unworthy!

Fate (DP) must have such plans that we were to meet this family again.

@Diomedon, I wouldn't outright apologize. Just add that we think it unwise to leave the tree unattended while confused people might come there and do something hasty.

Playing humble is a lost cause. We came into their city undetected, grew that tree and they could do fuck all to stop us. It's pretty insulting to apologize when it's quite obvious that we don't give a flying fuck about their authority or opinions.

@Diomedon Never admit that it wasn't keikaku doori.

That just feeds into people's thoughts of having any sort of control over any situation we're involved with.

That's patently false, we should at least make it look like we're not doing things in free-fall. That'll make them shit themselves more than the thought of not being in control: No-one in control.

Hrm. Yeah. I can see the value in the "I meant to do that" type of thing. Take the position that we wanted to make sure Lys wouldn't literally collapse due to earthquakes first, then deal with the very complicated Lysene politics afterwards.

Night guys, see you tomorrow with the conquest or subversion of Lys.

It was at the back of Viserys' mind, yes

This just keeps getting better.

6 months ahead of you but you missed the best part.
Edit: House Rogare had a family head named Lysandro the Magnificent and proclaimed himself First Magister for Life.

That was Viserys II father in law.

And people assume our flamboyance is 100% from the Targaryen line.

Also, isn't it funny how I'm usually right when it counts? Who guessed it was a Rogare lady we'd get to loot?

This guuuuy. :D

Huh.
I went to sleep and then DP came out and gave some information that fixed everything.
I don't know what to feel now.
Embarrassment over my lightning-quick salt-reflexes, or relief over my salt-induced hopes coming true.

Either way, thank you guys, for not following Viserys' obvious draconic instincts here.

[X] Admit that you were already impressed with how relatively experienced with magic she was and her general competence, and were interested in offering her employment. That she is Lysene nobility and your distant cousin as well is just both of your good fortune and the whims of fate, you suppose. You had actually given some thought to seeking out if any of the Rogares were still in Lys, but you ended up having to waste a good deal of time cleaning up other people's messes last time you were in Lys.
-[X] You'd be willing to offer her entire family your personal protection, promise a quality education, including in magic if they were so inclined, as well as opportunities in the future to improve her house's fortune. Oh, and your normal employment stuff, like money, supplying her with magical equipment, that sort of thing. The exact details can be settled later.
-[X] As she said, the entire city must be...alarmed, so you'd greatly appreciate her acting as your messenger to those in power. You'd be willing to send along your companions Lord Malarys and Ser Richard to both ensure her safety and attest to the veracity of her claims.
-[X] As to the message, explain the location of the meeting as that you dare not leave the tree unattended until the matter is settled, lest some fool endanger the city by trying to set fire to it or chop it down.
-[X] Have Dany use her ideas to cast Windwalk on the party and Shara, and explain the spell's abilities to Shara. Let her decide if she should fly or walk as a normal person, she is your local expert. Worst case it will be a way for her to escape and fly back to you if the locals are being truly foolish.
-[X] After they depart, have Lya and Dany teleport back to SD to inform Ser Gerold that he is to put what Legionnaires are battle ready on alert and gathered near the shadow tower and to inform Teana to make preparations for the tower to teleport if need be, before teleporting back to Lys. Have someone recontact Dany via Brazier every ten minutes in case there is more to pass on.
-[X] While Viserys is waiting, begin surveying the surrounding area in anticipation of trying to build an enclave or some sort of enclosure to help protect the new godswood here if all goes well. Idly play with the wayfinder and search for Illyrio.

@Diomedon, can you add an offer for magical items as well (exact details to be discussed later)? It'll only sweeten the deal, and it'll make it so that literally nobody else will match the generosity of our offer.

To be fair, our success is made from equal parts painstaking preparation for masterfully crafted plans, and being able to frantically snatch every advantage we can out of the latest chaos we got into.

You forgot the part where we were already intending to make contact with her family.

It was at the back of Viserys' mind, yes

Prime example--how we handled Sallosh.

We went in with minimal information and still got the wizard (who we only found out about upon arrival), and the cleric who was the biggest threat since she could cast seventh circle magic, and all the golems. We're pretty great at dealing with chaos, even if the fallout is a pain in the ass.
I don't want to do this, actually.

Otherwise it's fine.
Agreed. I have no interest in scraping and bowing.

Ahhh... I'm in some kind of Targaryen nirvana right now. I feel like Viserys is also quietly fanboying over tripping across every bit of lost family heritage his dynasty has claim to and meeting it or them on positive terms (for the most part).

I would much rather have Lya Teleport to SD to pass that message on, then return to Lys. That would let Dany use her Ideas to Dreamcast a Wind Walk spell on everyone Richard, Malarys, and Shara. Richard and Malarys can kill shit with the best of them, but they can be overwhelmed, especially if the enemy has some halfway decent magical support. Wind Walk would last long enough to give them an excellent escape option. It also allows them to travel to the Archon's palace more quickly, and makes a much more spectacular entrance.
