Or just ignoring the gates entirely and hopping over the Wall. That would be a shock.
I've got the feeling that simply flying over The Wall is not a good idea. Most likely, just like it's shadow over the water there's some shit up above to stop those who specifically have air as their domain from crossing over.
Best not risk it.

The wards of the Wall are something I'd rather not mess with when we've got squishy Rhaella and endangered Children in tow, for the same reason that you flat-out refused to consider bringing Rhaella to see the giants. There is no way in hell the Wall isn't warded against things flying right over it. Plenty of Winterborn have wings. The Peryton, the Others' ice dragons, etc. Getting passage from the Night's Watch and passing through the gates is safer by far.

Then we should COUNTER that, for fucking once. I see all this bitching about the rumor mill, but we've never once that I recall devoted any actions to spreading true rumors.

That's happening next run. We are devoting a block of time for the Great Westerosi Pub Crawl and Propaganda Tour, where we will introduce ourselves across the Seven Kingdoms, impress the locals, heal the sick, and be all around cool dudes. Word will hopefully spread.

We have a couple counter-propaganda plans, each taking a different level of involvement from Viserys, from personal pub crawl -> Commissioning and spreading songs in his favor (and mocking the Lannisters/Robert) -> Using teleport and ravens to distribute broadsheets in major trading hubs.

We'll probably sit down and put together a more extensive plan involving all three to some degree closer to the turn vote.

This is right after the festival. So that the tales can spread more from the visitors.

When we swing back up to speak with the giants, I want to bring Soft Strider with us. The presence of a Child of the Forest is an instant and massive boost to legitimacy and will make the giants take everything we say seriously, and hopefully even trust that we're completely committed to fighting the Long Night.

And those Ranger levels certainly don't hurt. Welcome to the ranks of the subordinate PCs, Soft Strider. :D

I'm almost hesitant to mention this, but Soft Strider has ranger levels, she is the most formidable of them.

That's very mean of you, DP. It's not even Mystic Ranger! :p

@Goldfish @Diomedon haven't caught up to the edge of the thread, but can Dany prepare a chained tounges spell for the CotF the preparation before we reach castle black?
@DragonParadox can you add this in as "good idea" from Dany if it's not too late? :D

Looking over the schedule, Rhaella should be making it to SD just in time for Aradia's creation. That will be a great time to introduce her to Lya.

"Mother, this is my beloved Lya. We need to be quiet for this part. She gets annoyed if interrupted while creating life."

That hits the kinslayer clause, since he's our relative. Someone else has to kill him, and not on our orders.

And I think flying at all greatly increases our risk. It's not about altitude, it's about the metaphor. We're dealing with magic beings who have a metaphysical connection to air. Flying through it, be it 3 inches above the ground, or 3 miles, opens us up to attack.

I'd prefer to travel on the ground, first to the Fist, and then to Castle Black.
I'm not sure if the old god would count killing and reincarnating someone as kinslaying, at least not when they willingly agree to it.

@Diomedon, regarding the Bloodraven thing, is there anything stopping him from killing himself so we're not even remotely a kinslayer? That seems like the obvious solution which has been all but ignored. And the Old Gods don't give a damn about suicide to boot.

Once he's dead we can easily bring him back.

I don't think so. If that was all it took, there would be plenty of CotF already.
I'm not sure if it's really fertility that's the problem, the problem might be that so many of them have been killed that their genepool is too small for long term survival.

And that can't be solved with extra fertility, we would need to create COF unrelated to them to fix that.

"I don't have time to die; I'm too busy"- Goge Vandire.

I don't think getting Bloodraven out of the Roots will be as easy as killing him. He is part of the network and as the singers show that can work long after death.

Either he'll have to negotiate with the OGs once they are calmer and propably offer a replacement, or we'll have to fight to get him free.
I'd say he knows best, unless he asks for it we don't intervene here. And once he does we follow Dany's lead.

Lya could probably create a ritual similar to Clone, and then cut away a tiny part of their soul like we did for the Orphne cloak.

@DragonParadox would empowering bioconstructs with parts (XP) of a PCs soul be a avenue for more ethical Seekers?

The power source for Seekers isn't the unethical part. That's just spirits of utmost Law, maybe Modrons or Axiomites or something similar. The issue with Seekers, and other Valyrian Bio-Constructs, was that they are made from unborn fetuses taken from slaves who were impregnated for just that purpose.

Good point.

Let's Reincarnate Bloodraven and Aemon as CotF.

That's not really the problem we're discussing, it's how to get him out of his oaths to the Night's Watch.

The vows are "Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death." So we've got a pretty clear path to release him from his oaths. But then there's this convoluted dance to avoid being a kinslayer either personally or through proxy when we can just get Bloodraven to do it himself. It's as simple as that. It isn't kinslaying in the slightest.

Bah, he's some kind of Tree-Lich.

By the professional opinion of the head of our Magic Academy he is hereby declared dead or at least not really alive.
There, issue solved.

The wood walkers of Ifequevron may be able to help us with this.

Maybe we can defeat the Others once and for all? That certainly helped in that Robert quest.

Oh I know, but they needed the slaves souls too to empower the whole thing. the LN spirit was just to shape how it behaved.

But if we could create empty vessels and fill them with LN-Viserysness XP/soul we might get a neat honorguard. :p

Anyway, CotF talking about the cave:

Men should not go wandering in this place. The river you hear is swift and black, and flows down and down to a sunless sea. And there are passages that go even deeper, bottomless pits and sudden shafts, forgotten ways that lead to the very center of the earth. Even my people have not explored them all, and we have lived here for a thousand thousand of your man-years.[3] "
- Leaf to Bran Stark

"The river you hear is swift and black, and flows down and down to a sunless sea."

This could mean a second entrance to the Underdark.
