That's a totally unfair comparison. Lya is not the daughter of a Lord Paramount, betrothed to another Lord Paramount.

Which is a different complication, sure, but ultimately one mitigated by her phenomenal cosmic power.

"Viserys, I don't think I like your mother very much."

"I'm sorry, dear heart. She'll come around eventually."

"Or I could just build you a new mother?"

Just because.

  • [x] Plan Parting Veils
[x] The woman in front of you is your mother, but she's also a woman out of time. You know her, but it's been a decade since she last saw you. You and Dany have talked about this, have tried to understand what it might be like for her to see you, but now that the moment is here, it's different. To see magic undo death isn't new, as strange as that would have sounded a few years past. But you've never seen it through this lens, as the one experiencing a reversal of fortunes long thought quite impossible. Even after Bloodraven's promise, you dared not truly hope until this moment.
[x] "Mother," the word sticks in your throat, barely a whisper, but it's too late to take it back. "Do you recognise me?" The key point here is to take her attention away from her surroundings to someone who looks familiar, even cloaked in magic as we are.
[x] Continue before she can answer, but make sure you have her attention. "It's Viserys." Reach out to her, try to give her something real to grasp after so long spent Elsewhere, but don't push. She's going to be in shock, the example of the last woman you raised from the dead whispers. Never have you felt so incapable of crafting fine words. "I know I look different. It's been a long time." Do not mention how long. She'll be able to work it out and I refuse to push the abandonment button beyond what is absolutely necessary to show that we're still her son.
[x] "You're alive again." These words are more to yourself then any other. Maybe to Dany too. The thought strikes you. Dany. She wears the visage of one of the highest planes. How could Rhaella recognise her? Reach out again, take her hand if she'll let you. "This is Daenerys, and...Ser Lonmouth. He has been a stalwart guardian after Ser Darry's passing." Again, hammer on what is familiar over what is not. This is an anachronism, but it's an important one. We have to bring her into the world without hiding too much, but also without giving too much strangeness to let her try and dismiss it. We need our mother sane, for her sake, and ours. Not even getting into Dany's mental state if she starts screaming in fear at her own children.
[x] "I know you'll have questions, I do, but please. Believe that it's me. That it's your children." You take a deep, shuddering breath, and tears prick at your eyes for the first time in longer than you can truly remember. "And that we have missed you, so much."
[x] If appropriate, proceed to hug. If not, give her space. This is an enormous overturning of what she thinks possible, we have to step carefully about it.
[X] "Welcome back, it is I Viserys and this is Daenerys... We have missed you mother."
    --[X] Hug?
-[X] Try to explain the current situation as gentle as possible, after presenting Brynden and the CotF ofcourse.
    [X] Hug.
[X] Hug her dammit with Daenerys. Answer questions nicely if asked. Try not to appear as if you are a demon from hell where quite frankly she might have come from. single tear and all that jazz to go along with it. Use that diplomacy we have worked so hard on to calm and soothe her.
    [X] "Hello, Mother. It's been a while."

It's actually an entirely fair comparison. She doesn't know that we've already broken off the betrothal with Dorne in exchange for something else. And on a purely dynastic level, taking a commoner as a Queen is suicidal. She's not even a courtier. Do you have any idea what that does to your Prestige?
Why yes I've been on a CK2 binge recently, why do you ask?

It's going to be especially awkward to explain that we broke our betrothal with Arianne Martell--which Rhaella arranged--for Lya's sake.

I don't regret it for a second, of course, but holy hell Viserys is going to be sheepish about that. But either way, Rhaella will grow to love Lya.

"I like the one I have. This isn't another "build a dragon" argument, is it?"

"We're not arguing." *foot stamp*

"It sounds like an argument."

"You're fine just the way you are Viserys--"

"...and?"

"And I think I could make a better dragon. Why not a better mother?"

"*sigh*"

Which is why we open with explaining that we found a better way to bring them around. We leave Lya out of it until we can convince Rhaella of how important our relationship is. Play dynastic games vs emotional ones. We're going to have to, most likely. Again, CK2 binge. I'm all sorts of ready for this :D

I think she'll probably keep her opinion to herself. And once she learns just what Lya is capable of, and how much we owe to her efforts over the past few years, that opinion will change in Lya's favor without us having to say a word.

Not really?

Nobles marrying outside their social level is uncommon, but far from unheard.
Nobles turning into angels and dragons is a lot further outside of her context and understanding.

*No fun on parties I guess.

Don't worry, bb. You are the funnest pinata to hit at any soiree.

Also, yes, Viserys having his own Lady Lya is going to be awkward to explain on some level, for the name if not the disparity of social rank.

Hmm, Lya, Lyanna... the similarity in names is going to set her off a bit

"Don't worry, Mother. Lya is not a reincarnated Lyanna Stark, returned to once more bring ruin to our house. In fact, Lyanna is currently haunting my nephew who lives in Winterfell, where Eddard Stark has hidden the boy's Targaryen ancestry to protect him from the Usurper's wrath."

Hm, did she ever find out what happened to elia and her kids when she was locked away in dragonstone?

Oh and that poses a difficult situation, what would we do if elia wants her kids back when we resurrect her?

We're already going to try to bring back Rhaenys, but that's going to be rather hard since she was so young. Aegon is outright impossible to bring back because as a baby his soul didn't have a fully-formed identity.

Only if Doran is willing to pay for it. Screw being charitable with that asshat.

Fuck Doran. This is for us. Rhaenys is a Targaryen, not a Martell.
