Hmm, random thought, but do you think that Malarys would know anything about the Shadow Tower or the dracolich?

Valyria seemed to have a thing for powering stuff with super powerful magical beings (see flesh forges), so maybe he would have some idea about what the wards do and how best to get the dracolich out of them without fucking the whole thing up?

Might be a bit of a stretch since he was a lawyer, but it doesn't hurt to ask :V

Definitely not.

The only reason we know about it is because Aebys the dragonpen used to belong to a Conjurer of the Sixth Circle who was part of the specialized order of mages that operated in the Shadow Tower, the one whose initiation test was to face fucking Abraxas and refuse whatever deal he came up with (with failure to resist meaning certain death).

And the wards of the tower itself along with the Whispering Gate were created by an epic-level archmage leading a coven of high-level mages.

This is next-level exclusivity here, there is no fucking way Malarys--a self-described colonial from Essaria--would know anything about the tower beyond legends or rumors that managed to leak out.

He can help, sure, more than pretty much anyone else, but he'll be just as much in the dark as the rest of us.

As always, there is a spell for that. This one is 9th level, and thus out of our reach for a long time to come.

Teleportation Circle – Spell – D&D Tools

Of course, creating such a network would be fantastically expensive, as each circle rendered permanent would cost 2,250 IM.

Darn it! I was searching in the wrong place back when I was looking into permenant telportation infrastructure.

Still, it's more expensive than the Epic Item Gate Key, which lets us make larger portals, with no such silly restrictions as to planes, at the cost of 1260 IM per portal (not counting cost reduction feats). Of course, it's fairly front loaded in terms of capital cost though at 75600 IM, and means we'd have to wait until we hit epic levels.

Teleportation Circle looks useful, but is pretty small when you start thinking in terms of infrastructure. A legion trying to move through it, assuming it was practiced and ordered, takes 3-4 hours, which is a vast improvement over mundane transportation, but pales next to the ideal of being able to march a legion through a boulevard sized archway in 15-20 minutes.

I mean, I did say it would be a bit of a stretch :V

At this point, basically any help is welcome, and I'm really itching to finally get the Shadow Tower to the point that we can use it without having to worry about surprise Dracolich.

It's not just a stretch, it's completely impossible that he'd actually know anything about the secrets of the tower. I agree with you that he's a super valuable asset we can and should put to work on this, and that he'll have more insights than most, but this wouldn't be the same as say if we recruited a conjurer that once worked in the Shadow Tower. :(

Hmmm... Genius Loci & Lich sacrifice, then Dracolich? Since we basically have to bring him with us anyway when we go see Bloodraven, we may as well get him involved in preparing for the big sacrifice.

He had problems worshipping Tiamat because she was a "beast". I wonder what he'll think of our trees. :V

I was actually thinking about that when he first mentioned it.

I feel as though he would have the least problem with the Old Gods, as at least they are worshiped by humans, barbarians that they may be.
The Merling King is worshiped by Fish People, who may or may not be considered lesser than humans by the Valyrians (they most likely are)
Yss is an ancient snake who was worshiped by snake people, literally a beast who was worshiped by beastmen.

I'm actually kind of curious about what he thinks of our Gods, and what he would think about the echo of Meraxes we found in Volantis.

... I wonder what he'd think of our plans to steal the echo of Meraxes from Volantis and feed the residual power to our gods.

Magpies, I need your attention. We are in Tarth now. Seat of the ancient Andal house of Morne. Who has a champion, described as the "perfect knight" that even The Maiden fell in love with.

Galladon of Morne who bears a possible Artifact, the Just Maid. @Duesal, thoughts?

Feed Meraxes to Yss, Merling King or the OG?

I think you misspelled "feed Meraxes to our little sister so that she can grow big and strong and no one will oppose her".

With heavy metal riffs and flames in the background.

It was an honest mistake. :V

Isn't there that old phrase about consuming an energy field bigger than your head?

I seem to recall that being a bad idea :V

In this case, it's the only way to break into Epic Levels.

So here we call it "calculated risk".

I think I would rather feed it to Richard. Maybe some latent Divine power would boost his anti-magic powers to the next level, maybe get him an Antimagic Field SLA or even something like the Antimagic Cone generated by a Beholder's main eye.

"Richard, consume this."

"...the shard of a dead God?"

"It'll give you superpowers."

*squint*

"...no?"

"No."

"If that can't convince you, what will?"

"Some guarantee it won't explode in our faces."

"This is science, not miraculous conception. If you want some more of that, we could raise my brother Rhaegar from the dead."

"Give me the Gods bedamned shard, already."

:o:o:o

That's an artifact of the Seven for sure, and it would be nasty to face off against. I sincerely hope it never falls into the hands of our enemies. Just Maid apparently "cannot be stopped by shield or sword" so it has to have ridiculous DR-piercing abilities along with whatever else the Maiden tacked on there.

If it does pop up again, I'd expect it to be handed to the Westerosi party down in the Underdark as a big quest reward or something. We're certainly not going to find it hidden away on Tarth, not when it has such a close connection with the Maiden and there's already a Cloistered Cleric of the Maiden in the same party as a genuine paladin who as of yet doesn't even have an enchanted blade.

Eh, it probably just has the Brilliant Energy property. Although a potentially useful effect, it's not exactly Stormbringer or Excalibur.

Are we not going to vote at all?

Proposal:

[X] Send letter by false raven requesting a meeting
-[X] Parley on a wide open field, a distance away from Evenfall Hall that no arrow can reach.

A fake lord who's narrative is to BE a lord would doubtless act the way a lord acts. That includes parleys with hostile parties in an open field.

works for me.

[X] Takesis

Huh, I thought I had already voted.

Don't forget to vote, @Everyone!
