This is... very interesting. Smells like a trap though, hasn't he been missing all this time?

Assuming this is the real Renly then we could definitively work with this, especially if the Tyrells have not yet stroked his Royal Ambitions...

...Wouldn't Renly be a natural enemy of the Faith? Perhaps we can share a cup of wine together and bond over the fact that the Seven want nothing more than to burn us at the stake.

Meeting at Tarth? Still in Renly's lands, but not in the heart of his power. Also, chance to meet Brienne.

Yeah I'd honestly want to meet in person if only to figure out if this is still Renly or some sort of fey changeling. Probably don't wanna sell Stannis to one of the fey. And maybe if it's totes mcgoats Renly we could foster some good old resentment against big bro? Like wow. The younger brother is the responsible one here???

Hmmm... @DragonParadox, are we allowed to accept but only for next month? I want to go in person to see what's going on and make sure we aren't being lured into a trap, but I also don't want to mess up our schedule here.

I do not think it is a good idea.
We are a sorcerer and they mistrust us.
Asking for more time would be seen as us either needing time to do something to Stannis or preparing a trap for Renly.

If we want to be seen in a positive light a swift acceptance would be important.

This said, it should not take much time, so I doubt our other plans would suffer overmuch, unless we would be in the Molten skies at the time?

Stannis will grind his teeth, because his older brother didn't pay his ransom, and he had to be bailed out by his younger brother, using the resources Stannis sees as rightfully his.
Sadly, that does seem like the most likely reaction. Anyone has any idea on how to mellow him out? Paperwork slowly progressing into coloring books?
That or use my original idea of have him train waymar under some pretense, and then let them grind each other into smoothness.

We are kind of forced to agree in principle, aren't we?

Edit: IF the letter is from Renly.

Edit edit: What's the mechanics of this letter?
We sent our construct to Robert with our demands and instruct it to wait for an answer or Robert's answer?
The construct comes back with an answer from Renly, who we didn't know is back (no major rumor heard) - how did the construct get this answer, why did it accept it, and does Robert know about that?

shit i forgot about renly disappearing. This smells, big time. Let's get some more info and then try to figure ouyt how to catch any possible impostor.

[X] Talk with Stannis about this. You've heard that Renly disappeared some time ago and are leery of just agreeing and maybe handing Stannis over to some unknown group who postures as his brother.
-[X] Maybe agree for now, but let Stannis write a letter to Renly to be send along as a sign of good faith and reassurance that he is will. It would be easy to check for an imposter that way.

Let's just be open about it.

Yeah, I'd talk to Stannis. This seems a little too convenient, and Stannis is an important political piece. Renly (or Fake Renly, or Fenly for short) could have avoided the difficulty he had with splitting the storm lords between himself and his brother if Stannis was under his power.

12,000 gold is pretty nice though. It does buy us time (our money situation isn't looking super hot).

Who is this 'renly' I don't watch/read asoiaf.

Also ya, I would be fine talking to stannis about this.

Edit: [X]Azel

@Azel we should make sure to bring the letter to Stannis, so he can look at the handwriting or something and say "hey yeah this doesn't sound like my brother's writing at all what the fuck kinda game is someone trying to pull"

Renly is the youngest brother of Stannis and Robert Baratheon, and current Lord of Storm's End, Lord Paramount of the Stormlands.

In canon, he marries Margery Tyrell and declares himself king by dint of having the largest army. Stannis assassinates him via Melisandre, the Red Priestess, using shadow magic.

He could have dictated the letter, so that's no proof, but I fully intend to show him the letter anyway.

Take note people: Everything is a weapon. Even kindness.
His own brother / liege can't be arsed to pay his ransom, but we, his captor, the guy he tried to murder a month ago, hesitate to grab the money because we are worried for his safety.

This whole ransom thing is paying handsomely.

Assuming he believes that you are actually motivated by kindness and not some nefarious scheme. On the face of it the concern does seem rather odd.

Holy shit Diomedon. Brienne.

She will give Davos Seaworth levels of loyalty to whoever shows her just a smidgen of respect in her martial ways/self worth. She would be all over Viserys after an afternoon chat with him and he would not even notice it! (given the way he usually treats other martially inclined women).

She should be PC material too... lawful and loyal to a fault...

Holy fucking shit, she could squire under Ser Richard!!!

"Why do you care, anyway?"
"Haven't you heard of Noblesse Oblige? If you're going to be one of my subjects when i reclaim my rightful throne, I have to be concerned for your safety. What kind of king would i be if I wasn't?" (Implying implications about Robert)
