Well, the fleet disposition vote should be coming up soonish. My plan is to put all Galleons on "trade" missions (as the ships best suited for long distance) to places we want to pick up teleport locations at (and also actually trade to make money). I think the big variables are, do we think we can afford the risk of sending a trade fleet to Qarth, what sorts of flags do we want our ships to sail under when trading, given our...uh...popularity, and what impressive doings do we want to send Moonsong/Theon off to do? They're in a galley now, so she can't go quite as far afield.

I want to propose an action for the next turn:

-Use Whispering Sand to create and actual communication network so that we don't have to abuse Imbue with Sending.

We can use the ravens for now.

Whispering Sand is instant, allows an instant answer, lasts a lot longer, and allows for multiple people to participate in the same "call".

And it doesn't cost a single cent because they talk through sand, dirt or ashes.

Is there a reason why we haven't done this yet?

We haven't set it up. Why I wanted Tyene free to work with Viserys on setting it up. :p It also gets her feet wet in what a Mistress of Whispers would require (constantly checking in on far-flung subordinates, etc.), before we have that serious talk with her.

Lya has it, not Tyene. It is actually a druid spell

Part MCCLXV: A Friend's Joy
A Friend's Joy

First Day of the Ninth Month 292 AC

It is disconcerting how easily one can fall into certain habits and expectations... How easy it is to call a place home after what is objectively a life on the road (or mayhap on the wing). The near constant sound of hammers and saws, the voices of craftsmen mortal and fey alike does not help one's peace of mind. Even while repairs to the old manse are underway at a feverish pace, the more abstract wheels of rule are starting to lurch into ponderous motion: clerks are looking over documents, struggling to make some sense of the work of their Tyroshi predecessors while the less skilled among their number run tallies of the wealth of the populace as well as counting heads. No doubt both will be flawed as people partake in the age old activity of hiding their wealth from the tax man, but at the very least it should give you some basis for analysis and taxation.

For the most part you merely have to make the odd appearance to the populace as a guarantee of the fragile peace and security in the aftermath of the night of madness. Truth be told you do not envy Garin the task of actually making sense of it all, not to mention finding competent subordinates to hand off the responsibilities to eventually. Still, your friend shoulders the responsibilities without complaint, almost seeming to relish the task after two months of crawling across the face of the Narrow Sea guarding a lead box and its gruesome contents. Selyse has naturally followed her husband, seeming oddly cheerful under the circumstances. That is until you discover the true reason for her happiness, which has little to do with Westheaven or Garin's new position.

"Garin and I are planing to have a child, and we would like to ask some help ensuring everything goes well," she tells you bluntly.

After a moment literally sputtering the wine you had just sipped, you answer that you would be delighted to help and direct Lya and Xor to do likewise. You also jokingly ask her to be more careful when delivering such news in the future "for the sake of your health."

"I'll be sure to be more considerate of his grace's health from now on," she agrees with exaggerated formality. "I would have let Garin break the news, but he would have taken all day to get around to saying it."

You shake your head at your old friend's irreverence, then say more seriously, "I am glad things worked out." You also hope they will continue to work out, but that you do not mention for fear of darkening the moment.

***

Other news is less joyful. While you have continued to make a fair income off your increasingly less limited privateering of the Free Cities' trade, the past month has also seen you lose two of your ships: one run aground in the fog in what you are assured is a sadly common peril of life on the sea, and the other simply vanished, though divination show the captain and officers are dead. Most likely a failed attack on a well prepared foe.

By contrast the eastern trade is beginning so show profits with many of your captains eschewing raiding for the journey to Lamentation to obtain exotic goods of the east directly. Qartheen porcelain, Tolosi saffron, and silk from Yi Ti are becoming an increasingly common sight in the Deep

Lost 2 Small Galeons

Gained 3 Tyroshi Galleys (From Westheaven)

Gained 473 Gold from trading raiding and taxes

What do you do in the month to come?

Tasks, for the turn:

Diplomacy:

[] Gratitude carved in stone: You have yet to see Rock Shaker and her family back onto familiar lands where you might benefit from a trade agreement. Further there is the mater of their dubious protectors whom your promised to pass into your own world.

Time needed: 3-5 Days, might take 30 Days.
Characters needed: Viserys

[] The Cheesemonger: Who is Illyrio Mopatis and why does he want you dead... or tested? Why would he steal Lya's notes? All questions you would like to ask in person.

Time needed: 5-10 Days
Characters needed: Viserys, Lya (wants to come)

[] The offering that binds: Zherys has said he will offer some greater and more impressive reward for aiding him in his rise to leadership of the Tigers. Considering the man's character and the near inevitability of your interests clashing, you are inclined to look upon it as less of a boon and more a trap.

Time needed: 3-4 Days
Characters needed: Viserys or Daenerys

[] The Kingdom of the South: Tyene wishes to see her home again, and that is reason enough to plan a trip to Sunspear. Alas there are more pressing maters to address also: the betrothal to Prince Doran's daughter which you shall not be unable to honor, and the offering of magics and wonders that will hopefully keep House Martel firmly behind you.

Time needed: 7-10 Days
Characters needed: Viserys and Tyene

[] Return of the Wandering Son: For over two years Waymar Royce has been you loyal companion and an exile from the lands of his birth. While you cannot see that he is given the honor he deserves yet, you can travel in secret to those lands that he may look upon his kin... and you can gather support from the Royces and perhaps other lordly houses of the Vale of Arryn.

Time needed: 7-10 Days
Characters needed: Viserys, Waymar

[] Journey to the East: With the waves you have been making in the Stepstones, it would not go amiss to send envoys to the Free Cities to solidify alliances or seed the ground for conquest
-[] Write in City

Time needed: 2-5 Days
Characters needed: Any (Some companions make better envoys than others)

Magic:

[] Voice of a Dead Dragon. Though you have little love for those things that live on in death and you are understandably wary of touching the mind of a true dragon that has undergone this horrific metamorphosis, it behooves you to at least attempt to speak to the spirit bound within the wards of the Shadow Tower before attempting to evict it

Time needed: 1-2 Days
Characters needed: Viserys

[] Items of power: Bend all your skills to understanding those enchanted objects you still do not know the purpose of.
-[] Write in preferred items

Time needed: ???
Characters needed: Maelor, Glyra, or Lya

[] Lore of Fire: Study of the text gifted you by the priest of R'hllor could be of great use, particularly if you were to venture once more onto the burning plains beneath the walls of the City of Brass.
-[] Write in who is to learn it

Time needed: 5-10 Days (First level)
Character needed: Any (See above)

Study Quarthi lore: Deep and old runs the Lore of Quarth Gateway between east and west. Long have the Warlocks toiled in the workings of fell magics. Where others faltered, they endured. What secrets might be gleamed from their artifacts and writings? Lya is more than happy to try and seek the answers.

Time needed: ???
Characters needed: Lya

Power of the Soul: The notes of the dead fiend who briefly masqueraded as the archon of Tyrosh promise secrets of the life and death, of the soul itself and how it may be shaped.

Time needed: ???
Characters needed: Lya

[] Study Memory moss: Now that you have a steady supply of the strange moss, you can begin the process of refining it into something more immediately useful.
-[] Spell storage potions
-[] Safe memory harvesting

Time needed: ??? Days
Character needed: Vee and Waymar or Tyene

[] A call into the Ether: Have to call otherworldly beings as servants, allies, or sources of information. With a better understanding of the tower's wards, the process will not be near as time-consuming.
-[] Write in

Time needed: 10 Days
Character needed: Daenerys

Study spells: Lya wishes to spend some of her time simply learning spells from the various troves of arcane knowledge.
-[] Write in spells

Time needed 1 day per spell
Character needed Lya

[] Magic bound to Matter: Lya could use her more advanced knowledge of enchanting to create more potent enchanted objects (1170 Gold worth of crafting components available)
-[] Write in

Time needed: 1 Day for every 200 Gold of the object's price
Character needed: Lya

[] The Broken Rod: One of the more potent objects in your possession, the ivory rod you claimed from the false cleric of R'hllor has not weathered the centuries well. It is as likely to hinder one as to help now. Perhaps with your greater understanding of sorcery you can set it to rights.

Time needed: ???
Character needed Lya or Viserys

[] A Child of Unique Circumstances: While you are very glad Garin and Selyse were able to see eye to eye on the matter of a child, you understand their caution in seeking help to ensure he or she not suffer for the powerful magics working on Garin's form.

Time needed: 15-20 days
Character needed Lya or Dany

[] The Queen Awakens: Dany's proposal to use the seed to awaken the Queen Rhaella, empowering it. To give birth to a new being, a fey of the Sky and Sea.

Time needed: 14-17 days
Character needed Viserys, Waymar, Xor or Vee

Martial:

[] Pirate Prince: With the strength of your magic and your friends beside you, you can sweep these seas of slavers or else claim prizes much far too well-guarded for any common raider.
-[] Hunt slavers
-[] Raid for gold
-[] Raid for ships

Time needed: 10 days minimum (Can be taken multiple times)
Character needed: Any

[] King of the Stepstones: Claim the other disparate holdings in the Stepstones under the Dragon banner, be it with fire and sword or words of peace and plenty.

Time: ???
Character needed: Viserys or Daenerys (may cause complications)

Stewardship:

[] The Silver Serpent Rises Anew: There is much profit to be had in risky ventures that are not so risky in truth by workings of arcane power.

Time: 15 Days
Character needed: Viserys

[] Diving for treasure: Many ships have been sunk into a watery grave in these troubled seas, some carrying great treasures which you might better put to use.

Time: 8 Days Minimum
Character needed: Daenerys

[] A Code of Laws: Many strange races walk under the sun in Sorcerer's Deep, from fey to beast-men to monkeys with the minds of man, and yet its laws if such they can be called are solely the laws of man. Best to correct that now, for you suspect other stranger things will keep flocking hither.

Time: 12-18 Days
Character needed: Viserys

Piety:

[] Hail to Glory Most Ancient: Dany tells you she can try to teach others who bear the Dragon-blood to call on the glory and might of those Most Ancient... save one. It would be perilous for mind and spirit both, but great too would be the rewards.

Time: 40-50 Days
Character needed: Daenerys

[] The Gods of Earth, Stone, and Tree: The Old Gods have been fair and more than fair to you. Tis only fitting then that you wet the roots of the Godswood further with the blood of those who would imperil your coasts.

Time 3 Days
Character needed: Vee

[] Tales for a new people: Though begotten of demonic powers to be naught but fodder in their cruel wars, the bull men still yearn for the same things men do. Might not the solace of faith aid in taming the beast within?
Time: ???
Character needed: Dany

[] Servants of the Serpent: Yss is ready to induct new adepts. While the vessel does not require your aid in the matter, observing the process closely will give you valuable insight into the mind of the Ancient One.

Time: 15-18 Days
Character needed: Dany, Viserys, Waymar or Lya

OOC: If there is anything else you want to do, mention it in the thread and I'll add the option.

Whomp so let's aim for 100% and expect to get done with 25%? I think it might rely really be time to set up independent adventuring parties already...

[] Magic bound to Matter: Lya could use her more advanced knowledge of enchanting to create more potent enchanted objects (1170 Gold worth of crafting components available)

Hmmm... @Azel @Goldfish

Amulet of PfE for Viserys and the rest into Raven constructs?

EDIT: Wait, HA! Regular Amulets of PfE cost 800 IM, but these are Molten Skies materials so they'll cost half as much. So, three Amulets of PfE if we pay 30 IM out of pocket. I am absolutely willing to pay that price.

People who need an Amulet:

Viserys
Lya
Vee
Maelor
Xor???

Lower Priority:
Teana
Alinor

EDIT 2: Also, I guess we'll have to buy new trading galleons after all.

I'm on my phone at the moment, but the loss of those galleons is painful. They really are better for trade than raiding, so it isn't too surprising...

Well, that sinks the Qarth trade mission.

So anyone think Greyjoy is one of the ship sinkers?

@DragonParadox

Action to ask Yss if the tortoise/turtles and fox were people cursed into that form that we can sacrifice their lives to restore their souls to humanish and let them pass on to... wherever, and if they are monsters and not victims, share the din dins with him and the OG?

Papa want's some swaky boots, you see.

Okay, for Lya at least, her Dedicated Wrights make it so that she can get other stuff done while she crafts.
[] Lore of Fire: Study of the text gifted you by the priest of R'hllor could be of great use, particularly if you were to venture once more onto the burning plains beneath the walls of the City of Brass.
-[] Write in who is to learn it

Time needed: 5-10 Days (First level)

Time needed: ???
Characters needed: Lya
And then this seems like a time-bomb if we don't address it.

Huh... so...

Viserys:
- Laws
- Zherys
- Xorn

All of the time critical stuff we can't push back without annoying people.

How about sending Glyra to Tyrosh to have a look for the local fey?

We need a simulacrum. sigh*

Or a steward.
Thank God Lya's PrC has extra bodies. I'm holding out hope that DP will allow us to have Lya build Viserys at least one Arcanum to help out with the various tasks of ruling. Short of that I just want a Simulacrum. It'll be worth every penny.
How about sending Glyra to Tyrosh to have a look for the local fey?
Just so long as that doesn't cut into item identification.
