Eh. They're constructs and they won't get tired, so they can out-fly pretty much any enemy ship so long as it's not supernatural.

But this just reinforces my stance to use seeing off Rock Shaker's tribe as an excuse to briefly stop by Molten Skies for more crafting materials. Preferably after we hold the auction in Braavos so that we actually have decent buying power.

Oh, I'm not worried about ships seeing them. We just want them to see ships, so they can fly a little closer, check the ship out, and then tell the closest of our captains about it so they can intercept. We'll want to establish a monopoly of piracy force in the stepstones, so we can sell our toll as a better alternative (to non-slaving merchants) to the old situation where you had to worry about losing your whole ship or not. Instead, you just lose a fixed fee you can plan for (which is much better for accounting).

Later, they can be used to enforce said toll as well, which should pay off the investment made into them rather quickly.

Wait. Turns out I read the previous posts wrong. The original plan was to construct three ravens, and three ravens cost 75. Each individual raven only costs 25. All the more reason to go crazy. :D

I'd rather we get our essentials out of the way first, including PfE Amulets, Lya's +Con belt, etc.

Alright everyone, here's a big list of the actions we voted on this turn and the actions we've finished this turn, complete with the links to the relevant updates.

LIST OF ACTIONS

Diplomacy:

[] Gratitude carved in stone: You have yet to see Rock Shaker and her family back onto familiar lands where you might benefit from a tradea agreement. Further there is the mater of their dubious protectors whom your promised to pass into your own world.

[] A Tiger's Trial: Hermetia wishes to see her father one last time and plead that he be given a swift death at least. For your part you care little of that madman's fate, but it would be a tragedy for all the assets of his house to be claimed by vultures when Hermetia herself still lives.
Of Divine Memories and Moral Machinations
To Dare the Dreams of the Damned

[] A Lady of Driftmark: So strange a task you have been set, to kidnap a girl with her father's blessing, to steal what should rightfully be yours, yet for all that you will not balk from it.

[] The Lost Prince: Theon Greyjoy is under your protection and a guest in your halls yet you know little about him. Perhaps it is time to remedy this.
A Prince's Prospects

Magic:

[] The Dreams of a Dead Dragon. You have made school for fledgling arcanists from the shadow shrouded tower that once stood in Mantarys, yet the greatest horror of those halls still lurks within, bound to fraying wards. The matter must be settled, the spirit exorcised or placated, though the task of understanding the bindings will be no simpler for you than for the Listener and his ilk.
An Answer in the Shadows Found

[] Items of power: Bend all your skills to understanding those enchanted objects you still do not know the purpose of.

[] Plant Memory moss: What weapon more mighty in this age of magic than the mind? What terror more dreadful for the mage than having his very memories ripped from him? The strange moss you collected in the Braavosi swamps promises much for good or for ill.

[] A call into the Ether: Have to call otherworldly beings as servants, allies, or sources of information.
-[] Write in

Study spells: Lya wishes to spend some of her time simply learning spells from the various troves of arcane knowledge.
-[] Write in spells

[] Magic bound to Matter: Lya could use her more advanced knowledge of enchanting to create more potent enchanted objects (13000 Gold worth of crafting components available)
Inspiration Taking Flight
Of Enchantment and the Enchantress

Martial:

[] Pirate Prince: With the strength of your magic and your friends beside you, you can sweep these seas of slavers or else claim prizes much far too well-guarded for any common raider.
-[] Hunt slavers

Inspiration Taking Flight

[] King of the Stepstones: Claim the other disparate holdings in the Stepstones under the Dragon banner, be it with fire and sword or words of peace and plenty.
Good Fortune Amidst Sorrows
The Oft Forgotten Harbor

[] Fleet from the West: Your enemies gather to shatter once and for all the growing power of your House, but fate has dealt them a bad hand, for it is they who will fall into the briny depths.
Fate of the Vanquished

Stewardship:

[] A Code of Laws: Many strange races walk under the sun in Sorcerer's Deep, from fey to beast-men to monkeys with the minds of man, and yet its laws if such they can be called are solely the laws of man. Best to correct that now, for you suspect other stranger things will keep flocking hither.

Thanks for keeping up with all of this stuff for us, Duesal! :)

No problem. :)

I'm just pretty irritated that yet again our poor Code of Laws has been put on the backburner. Fortunately it's becoming top priority now that we're going straight into conquering mode.

Sadly, a lot of things are becoming top priority. :p I don't think we'll finish next month, but we should get a much larger chunk done, barring emergencies.

We wouldn't finish this month anyway. We've only designated 3 days for it and it requires 10 - 15 days.

I wasn't talking about this month? I was saying I doubted we'll finish entirely next month, given the ever increasing amount of things for Viserys to do.

Also, do you still prefer Azel's barebones plan to Goldfish's or mine?

I like that Goldfish's vote is more paranoid about capturing any and all Tyroshi ships. We really need to maintain the element of surprise before we move against Tyrosh and take the city.

[X] Goldfish

[X] Diomedon

Though I'd prefer we not specify everyone be tipsy, that means most will be drunk, puts unnecessary limits on our own timing and allows people to convince themselves we weren't that great, they were just drunk.

Bonus points if you can work in a discussion about the expanding influence of Viserys Targaryen in the Stepstones, "he seems to be everywhere... "

Adhoc vote count started by Deliste on Sep 14, 2017 at 9:18 PM, finished with 100384 posts and 8 votes.

  • [X] Have Azema give you a rundown of the most important officers and officials in town, and what they did to get sent here.
[X] Have her convince the fool to impress her by arranging a large dinner party (to begin in the late evening) in 4 days, calling in as many ships as he can (to have their captains attend).
-[X] Once everyone at the party is nice and tipsy, reveal yourself and convince them of all the benefits of joining you. (VotD+AoN, dismiss AoN if intimidation is needed. Be quite careful.)
[X] Arrange for our fleet to leave immediately for Westhaven, carrying several squads of Minotaurs and other men-at-arms, and our seagull constructs. After we capture Westhaven, the constructs are to report of any ship leaving the island, and have the fleet intercept.
-[X] Dany and the Pech, using Wall of Stone spells and Bulabar oversight, will close off the mouth of Westhaven's harbor during the dinner. Dany will set the underwater anchor walls, while the Pech link them together above and slightly below the waterline. Try to make it so that the stone can later be used to improve the harbor entrance, both from a defensive standpoint as well as to mitigate the effects of dangerous storms. They'll be guarded by Garin and Vee, all three buffed by Lya's Life Bubble spell, in case anyone comes investigating.
[X] Plan "All your base are belong to us" Part One: Westhaven
-[X] Arrange for our fleet to leave immediately for Westhaven, carrying several squads of Minotaurs and other men-at-arms. After we capture Westhaven, they are to patrol the local waters and seize any Tyroshi ships which enter the area.
-[X] Debrief Azema to learn everything of potential relevance that she knows about the officers stationed at Westhaven, as well as any other prominent individuals of interest.
--[X] Instruct her to convince the officer in charge to make a public address, one mandatory for all of his subordinates (and calling in as many nearby ships as possible), announcing their upcoming marriage or some other suitably momentous occasion. It will be scheduled for sunrise on the appointed day (whenever our other preparations are complete). Buff Azema with Air of Nobility if she thinks it necessary.
-[X] Dany and the Pech, using Wall of Stone spells and Bulabar oversight, will close off the mouth of Westhaven's harbor the night before the announcement. Dany will set the underwater anchor walls, while the Pech link them together above and slightly below the waterline. Try to make it so that the stone can later be used to improve the harbor entrance, both from a defensive standpoint as well as to mitigate the effects of dangerous storms. They'll be guarded by Garin and Vee, each buffed by Lya's Life Bubble spell, in case anyone comes investigating.
-[X] Once everyone is gathered for the announcement, Viserys in HD form (using a Ribbon of Disguise to appear human), buffed by a Clarion Call spell cast by Dany, plus Voice of the Dragon and Air of Nobility, will make his presence known and attempt to convince everyone of the benefits of transferring their loyalty to his regime and the potential dangers of taking up arms in favor of Tyrosh. Use the closed off harbor as an example of our power.
[X] Have Azema organise a party. You and the others will attend in disguise and join the merry making.
-[X] Once everyone but the party is slightly tipsy, reveal yourself and convince them of all the benefits of joining you. (Use only VotD to prevent any molten brains.)

That's what will tip them off. If all ships are taken near Westhaven, it's reasonable to surmise that Westhaven has either fallen, or is besieged, from their perspective. If we permit ships to come near Westhaven, and if we can manage it, let any military supply vessels leave unmolested (I can't imagine they'd want to hang around Tyroshi Alaska, particularly if the harbormaster is complaining about how the admiral is in a bad mood for his lover leaving him for another man).

These are all sailors. They wont be drunk after a drink or two. It's more about making sure they've started to relax before we appear, so they're less jumpy.

I'm going to be sincere about this: going for Westheaven before Tyrosh is a bad tactical move. It doesn't bring any new resource to us (other than their dubious taxes), it alerts a huge enemy of our intentions, and gives us a lot of work to do to ensure loyalty from our own subjects, decreasing our own resources evne more.

I'd rather start in Tyrosh, and then conquer the chaff.

On the plus side, maybe they'll send us another fleet.

I'm honestly inclined to agree here. I'm very tempted to just pack up and leave, take Azema with us, and rouse our forces for an invasion. And then, you know, terrify Tyrosh into submission.

You know, the only way I see that this can help us is if we use our bullshit mobility to take over Tyrosh once it mounts a response.

Also, we need a Lyre of Building to pull instant fortifications out of Moonsong whenever she feels like playing it.

Okay but think about it. Unless we can gain a large army to occupy the city, and are willing to hold onto slavery until the economy is restructured and redirected away from human trafficking and forced labor, we have no hope of shifting our focus away from that city for any real length of time.

Even if I was okay with telling Dany that no, we can't liberate all the slaves in the city, and the reason is economic collapse and counter revolution, we gain little but openly declare our intentions of conquering Essos or gasp exerting any real influence on it, rather than just fucking off to Westeros and never returning like Daemon.

Even Braavos will be pissed off about it. They aren't really motivated toward ending the slave trade, because short term: It'd be bad for their economy.

That whole spiel about never leaving an enemy alive, etc, and such? I reiterate, what you never want to do is mess with a man's profits. They will hunt you to the bitterest end.

Taking Westhaven gives us Tyroshi we can use to help maintain control of the city. A familiar veneer as we start to turn their lives upside down. Combined with sellswords, this will buy us the time we need to train our own guards and troops.

It's ripe for the plucking and Tyrosh is not quite yet, I wouldn't want to conquer Tyrosh this turn, not enough administrative might.

With real takeovers I want us to be smart, we train up the staff before invasion, have them train specifically for administrating/guarding etc. Tyrosh, factor costs of magical gentrification, new laws, new stone shaped buildings etc then boom we swoop in, go Nova Dragon Style and install our prefab immediately afterwards.

People will wake up to a rule they can't figure out how to rebel against philosophically let alone martially.

We kill the head with fire and the body with kindness and if we really can manage it bloodless at a population level, propoganda wise that shit is terrifying.

Overnight successful takeover and integration is any rulers two worst nightmares, the populist threat normally faced internally and the lethal threat normally faced externally.

Most of our citizens don't realise it yet but once we take an established City they will realise Sorcerer's Deep is the real deal, and they all understand trade, Westhaven could be swung with the same understanding, a pre-established power structure to be at the top of and a fresh slate policy, there's enough cocky idiots (caught again easily enough) and legit one-time unluckies that I think they'd happily take the offer, leaving us with a relatively content Stepstones.

The former slave cities are mostly slaves so as long as we keep them fed and healthy we would have happy people, but Vee has more experimenting to do before we jump into that.

Our big problem is we don't have the troops to hold a large population center. So we want to train the troops to do so. But to train troops you need people to train. To gain access to those people, we need to hold a large population center. To hold a large population center, you need troops...

We have to cut into this chain somewhere. Hiring Sellswords and using native quislings to try and keep the resentment at a simmer while we quickly train guardsmen to enforce our will seems like the best way to achieve it from my perspective. And transitioning from a slave society to a free one isn't easy, as we saw in Mereen in canon. Things are going to be rough no matter how we approach it.
