Can we get details on the eye implant?

I am assuming Qyburn already harvested it.
We already had that on the loot list from the Squid, I believe?

A Sword Without a Hilt: A Song of Ice and Fire/D&D 3.5 Crossover

A Sword Without a Hilt: A Song of Ice and Fire/D&D 3.5 Crossover In a world where magic has all but guttered to ashes, becoming the fare of charlatans, petty conjurers, and ragged illusionists, a mighty change is stirring. From small and fragile sparks a great blaze will be reborn and men will...

@egoo, can remind me what research actions we have going next month?

---Research Actions—

[] The Key to Madness: Exchange the lore gathered by the Imperium on the creatures of Far Realm and Illithids specifically, as well as the methods of finding their influence and agents, in return getting the Azure Court's own knowledge on the subject matter.
(Progress: 11/40)
----[] Rina (4d6 Progress), Mercy of the Soul (4d6 Progress)

[] Layered Demiplane Research: It is possible to create demiplanes with more than one layer, allowing for layered defenses for the Imperial Dream as well as specialized aspects that would make transmutation of souls more feasible
(Progress: 0/35 Cost: 60,000 IM)
----[] Naria Lore-Seeker (4d6 Progress), Zathir (4d6 Progress as per Favor used),

[] Project Distilling Dreams: The Rituals Naria discovered produce divine power but not in any usable form, distill it to something that can be stored and used
(Progress 25/60 Cost 120,000 IM)
----[] Dany (4d6 Progress), Aenie Caleris (6d6 Progress),

[] Forging Paths of the Divine: Imperial Steel, creation of Meraxes, may just end up being far more than just an empowered version of the Valyrian creation. Explore the necessary requirements for the material to carry energy and signals - as it may be the only material viable to create the physical base of the "Imperial Deity".
(Progress: 0/50 Cost: 200,000 IM)
----[] Lya's 2nd body (4d6 Progress +1d6 via the Skymender), Anu the Warforged (4d6 Progress), Valeria the Wondersmith (4d6 Progress),
----[] Bodyguard detail, because the Skymender is precious: 2x Guardian Nagas (CR 10), 1x Verdant Phoenix (CR 15), 10x Vigilant Briars (CR 4), 5x Watchmoles (CR 6), 5x Glass Golems, 2x Heralds (CR 10), 3x Plant-Imbued Shadow Cats (CR 6), 1x Advanced Sorcerer Creature Snapdragon Leshy (CR 10), 5x Black Champions (CR 15), 50x Black Knights with Mobility Upgrade, 200x Spitters (to be buried around the work site)

-[] Improved Alchemy: The Imperium hungers for alchemical goods and much effort was poured into producing as much of them as possible, but it still does not even remotely satisfy the demand. Especially the military can devour concoctions such as Alchemists Fire or Explosive Packs at an astonishing rate. See about to either improve the output of your alchemical factories or to discover alternatives to these substances that are easier to mass-produce.
(Progress: 43/50; Cost: 200,000 IM)
----[] Denys Trainer (4d6 Progress),

[] Ritual-crafting: 1 point of Progress per spell-level, max spell level - 4th.
-[] Mind Warding: Rituals
--[] By this point you have the process for creating ritual formulae for spells completely worked out. It merely needs to have a competent mage assigned to the task. (in order of priority)
---[4] State Ritual - Clarity of Mind (Progress: 3)
---[5] State Ritual - Rite of Centered Mind (Progress: 1)
---[6] Inquisition Ritual - Detect Fiendish Presence (Progress: 1)
---[7] Inquisition Ritual - Detect Charm (Progress: 1)
---[8] Inquisition Ritual - See Beyond (Progress: 3)
---[9] Inquisition Ritual - Shroud of Innocuity (Progress: 3)
---[whatever] Legion Ritual - Tern's Persistence (Progress: 2)
---[whatever] Legion Ritual - Runic Marker (Progress: 4)
---[whatever] Legion Ritual - Abstemiousness (Progress: 1)
---[whatever] Widely-Shared (Utility) - Weather Eye (Progress: 4)
---[whatever] Widely-Shared (Utility) - Ancient Knowledge (Progress: 1)
(Total Progress: 22, Cost: ??)
----[] Scholarum Branches: Stepstones, Tyrosh, Mantarys, Tolos (8d6 Progress total)

[] Developing ways to mass-produce basic crafting materials: We have no idea, nor the time. Have the magelings busy themselves with something useful on the Imperial scale, and not too sensitive to worry about them being divined.
(Progress: ??, cost: ??)
----[] Scholarum Branches: Volantis. Naath, Braavos, Pentos (8d6 Progress total)

-[] Razor Wire: While the easy availability of earth-moving magic has made it much easier to erect battlefield fortifications, many of the Legions officers see still room for improvement. They are asking for something that can be incorporated into other defenses to block an enemy's movement, but which does not hinder their own soldiers ranged attacks and which is vulnerable to hostile earth movement magic or alchemical weapons. There has been some talk about using spiked metal rods or something similar for that purpose.
(Progress: 3/18; Cost: 15,000 IM)
----[] Sorcerer's Deep's Engineering University (2d6 Progress)

[] Proximity Alarms:
(Progress: 17/25; Cost: 30,000 IM)
----[] Riz'Neth (4d6 Progress), Svitran (2d6 Progress),

[] A New Fortress: After having built a few steam cannon batteries to defend important locations, some common problems and design concerns have been noticed. The cannons should be on a high location with wide firing arcs to maximize their utility while the battery should be kept compact to make it easy to ward. At the same time, the crew and boiler remain the greatest weaknesses of the installations, the former since they are often housed in much more vulnerable camps near the batteries and the latter since the whole battery could be disabled if the boiler was hit. See about creating a standardized design for future cannon batteries to address these issues.
(Progress: 0/25; Cost: 50,000 IM)
----[] Beryl (4d6 Progress)

[] A Method to Madness: the body the Mind-Eaters crafted for Jeyne with infiltration in mind is an incredible piece of magic wholly unlike anything you've ever seen. Copying it won't be easy, but succeeding promises an ability to flesh-craft similar vessels as needed, granting you an in into mysteries of Psionic powers.
-[] Research into Psionic templates
(Progress: 45, Cost: 200.000 IM)
----[] Maester Qyburn (4d6 Progress), Lady Saenena Caleris (4d6 Progress), Urak the Forgemaster (6d6 Progress), Jeyne Weaver (2d6 Progress)

[] Research Templates: Creature Swarm and Collective Creature
(Progress: ??)
----[] Elaheh Marita (4d6 Progress),
And the Crucible, though it's a mixed one - half a delve, half an RA for now.
[] To Unveil the Crucible (will be turned into an RA/Delve according to rolls after the initial contact): The artificial plane of stable reality in the Limbo is a reason enough for investigation. That it was seemingly modified by the Court of Stars from something that existed there before, and that the true rules of it's working were not known even to them, it is imperative to learn all that is possible - while staying out of any narrative spun by the locals.
--[] Goals: ???
-[] Work with the Gith Researchers sent in - share all our knowledge on Fey that may come of relevance to learning the truths of the place.
----[Standing Scouting team - started in the 4th month] (1 Mind Dragon, 1 Myrkdreki, 3x Shadow Cats, 3x Watchmoles -- all Mindblanked).
----[Research Team (full Mindblank coverage, as the initial group)] Lya's 1st body (4d6 Progress), Wisdom Marwyn (4d6 Progress), Ashin (??d6)
----[Meatshields]: Sarell of the Black Scales, The Myrkdreki twins (MR 1), 10x Black Wardens, (CR 8)

@egoo, please add Samwell Tarly to "The Key to Madness". Just having a few more hands for that task would be nice and it Sam a shot at figuring out if he wants to pursue a career in academic research.

On that note, add Dimension Door as a Inquisition ritual. Neat for breaching.

@egoo may I suggest Detect Secret Doors to also be on the list of rituals? I imagine that it will be useful to find any hideouts for the Inquisition.

Interlude CMLXXXIV: Thrice Tangled Threads
Thrice Tangled Threads

Twenty Third Day of the Fourth Month 294 AC

There was a certain satisfaction for any schemer, but especially one adept in weaving thousands upon thousands of threads at once, in finally tying one off, the more definitive the better. So thought Varys who was not Varys, the raven in spider's coat standing in the familiar hall of the Small Council on this the last Small Council in the history of the Seven Kingdoms.

"The Ironborn must be brought to heel!" Guncer Sunglass blustered and fumed. "My fleet will see to it, I need only word from the regent and we will expunge their heathen stain from the seas of Westeros. If your brother cannot even deal with that nest of de-fanged pirates..."

One could almost pity Kevan Lannister, a loyal man going down with the sinking ship. Alas for him it was a ship captained by traitors and fools.

"Will you leave King's Landing open to attack because of your damnable pride then!" One did not usually hear the Westerlander lord shout, but then Brynden had set the already debatable sane man simmering for weeks, plying him with tales of Lannister treachery against the Faith and the Kingdom. Given a bit more time he could have probably convinced the idiot to attempt seizing the young 'king' in a coup.

His aim for today however was simply to get Cersei Lannister to appear at the meeting with her brother-lover beside her in a show of family unity so that he might remove them both along with the rest of the Council per the King's command.

Yet when he heard the all too familiar tapping of the would-be regent's shoes outside the chamber besides the armored boots of Ser Jaime Lannister he heard a third tread that he had not expected, light and soft yet feigning confidence. Fuck. Even the most cunning web can be ruined by a fool stumbling through it.

Cersei had brought the boy 'king' to settle matters in person according to her own sweeping proclamations.

How, Why? He was supposed to be practicing the sword with Selmy. Bloodraven had trusted the old Kingsguard to hold onto him in the brief chaos to come keep him from getting any ridiculous ideas of flight. It had not merely been a plan, he had Seen...

That was when the Last Greenseer sensed the odd void around the boy, they had given him a proper mind ward to match his mother's. He could see through it of course, the same away a man might smash through a locked door if he ran at it full tilt. Subtle it would not be, nor something one should get into the habit of if one wishes for arms still attached at the shoulder. Lannister gold grinding up the works of the kingdom one last time. Now he could not even tell if the boy had a contingent translocation effect. He should of course, being the king and he had seen him with it as recently as yesterday, but Bloodraven was not in the habit of letting his plans hinge on what should be rather than what is.

Over the next hour as the council debated its pitiful options with ever more passion and wrath. Joffrey Waters seemed ever more entranced by it, not the business of rule but the fascination for bloody battle that only those who had never seen a battlefield could espouse.

"I shall head west and help secure our position with the Ironborn, expect the armies of the Westerlands and more soon..." Ser Kevan said adding to Bloodraven's dilemma. He was running out of time.

Getting the boy out of the room of his own accord would be nigh impossible. His mother would have to stay or this whole blaze would be a waste of his vessel's death. Perhaps the Kingslayer could be persuaded to get the boy out of the room and the queen would trust him to do so if she trusted anyone. On the other hand he could let the session pass and hope he could have another shot at his before Kevan left for the west.

Thankfully this was not the age into which he had been born, speaking to the King was only a thought away. What does Bloodraven do?

[] Persuade the Kinglasyer to take Joffrey out of the room before the explosion, leaving them both alive in the aftermath

[] Let the meeting end without setting off the Varys bomb, risks Ser Kevan slipping away before the next one

[] Write in

OOC: Bynden's socials while buffed are such that there is no question he could persuade Jamie to take Joffrey and do something more interesting with him like sword fighting, but he can't get the kid to leave on his own because he would get shut down on the first word, and no matter your social skills you need to actually be able to talk to someone to persuade them and he can't send him with someone else because Cersei is too paranoid.

I know it's not the boom many of you guys expected in this update, but it would be surprising of Cersei not to have a chance to fuck up a carefully orchestrated plan one more time in such a away as to put her children in more danger.:V

Jokes aside the rolls were mixed to say the least in the background.

What's up with that productivity today, 3 updates and it's not even evening?

@DragonParadox
What magical options does Varys have with him?
If he could cast a Resilient Sphere or a Baleful Transposition directly before the explosion he could save Joffrey without anyone else.

There is probably a line on the Evil Overlord guide to never allow traumatized children to live on to get vengeance.

But we have a conscience

  1. Three is the limit, hands are complaining a bit again and I don't want to force them
  2. He can do both these things of course but then it would raise questions as to why Varys did those things

Save the King?
Particularly if he can do them without obvious casting.

If the people coming in only find the King alive in an emergency-sphere (or teleportet out of it by some contingency), they will assume that some magic item from one of the councillors was used to save the King, as it would have been their duty, while everyone else died.
