I was just looking over his character sheet to get an idea of how much more lethal he will be after becoming a Praetorian and noticed that he's only at 1st level in Occult Slayer.

It would be helpful if we could get him one more level before applying the +2 LA from the Praetorian template, as 2nd level Occult Slayer gets him Spell Turning as a special ability.

Fingers crossed that he saw enough action with the group in the Reach this month to level up. Any chance of that, @DragonParadox?
Reminder here that Sandor is at the upper end of Medium and DP confirmed that the Praetori conversion would push him over the border to Large. So that's another +8 STR, -2 DEX, +4 CON, +2 NA on top of what Praetori already gives him, pushing him into Juggernaut levels of strength and resilience.

What, really? I knew the Praetorians grew somewhat larger, but I didn't think that actually changing Size categories was on the table. That's a really significant side-effect. Neat, though, if the subject doesn't mind. I'm sure the Minotaurs will welcome other Large-sized Praetorians in their district, which is built for those of greater stature.

Going to Large-size doesn't normally increase stats by quite that much, though. It should be +4 STR & CON, -2 DEX, and +3 Natural Armor.

Normally it wouldn't change the size-category, just make them about a foot taller. But Sandor is a special case, both because he already is nearly Large and because gigantism runs in the family.

Where are you getting those values from though? I'm using the monster advancement chart as we usually do:
Size increases effects on attributes is one of those things handled extremely inconsistently.

Whenever I increase something's Size category by one, especially for Forge servitors, I use the Giant template. If Sandor is going to Large-size, for the sake of consistency I think we should stick with those adjustments to his stats.

Well, I've always used the mentioned table for everything I made, so it's already wildly inconsistent.

Interlude DCCCXCIII: A Circle of Flame
A Circle of Flame

Twenty Ninth Day of the Second Month 294 AC

Seat of the Blackweb Principality, Sea of Fire

Amrelath hissed in annoyance as he coiled around the obsidian column as he attempted to pull the phantom pain out of his muscles. Healing magic could knit together torn flesh and restore lost blood, but weapons specifically wrought to be the end of dragons would leave a memory of agony upon the flesh just the same, an echo of their makers' spite. He could almost appreciate the wit and boldness their foes had chosen to move with this month. The efreeti captain's torque made a fine glittering ring. Dead foes after all were to be admired for their skill, and made trophies of one's triumphs.

Ah... much better, he finally managed to get the last crick out of his spine before turning his attention to the basalt slab in front of him. He had lost that damn wager with Yrten, and so he would hold up his end of the bargain to immortalize the events of the past month.

***

The Golden Wind and all aboard were cornered in harbor as the mage Siduri sought information on our next target, forcing us to remain on the defensive in the face of superior efreeti forces. While we could have escaped to the Material Realm by means of the Wheel of Far Travel it was deemed unwise to do so from both a military and diplomatic perspective, the first because it risked dragging efreeti ships into the Garden where they might have posed a serious risk to the wooden ships mortals were so fond of still, the second because they would be abandoning their salamander allies on the eve of battle.

By reason of its greater bulk and the presence of the Heralds the Golden Wind served as the linchpin of the counteroffensive and suffered for it. According to Yrten it will require extensive yardwork, though thankfully we are not without plunder to show for splintered masts and blood running across the deck. Even with the split in treasure, arms, and captives made with our hosts the month was not wasted, though Siduri is concerned that the Brazen Throne is growing wise to her sources and will only continue to lay ever more cunning traps.

Damage
  1. Golden Wind Seriously Damaged (Requires a month's work in a shipyard at a cost of 8,000 IM)
  2. Crew Depleted (Will replenish automatically over a month)
Ships Captured:
  1. 2 Sword Ships
  2. 1 Shield Ship
Arms and Armor Captured:
17x Chain Mails +1 (Medium)
34x Shortswords +1 (Medium)

Coin Acquired:
3,000 Great Brass Seals

Prisoners:
3 Efreeti Officers (CR 8; 10 HD)

By far the most interesting part of the month was the salamander queen's proposition following our victory. Rather than be emboldened by it, perhaps to recklessness as is all too common for those in which the flame burns wild, she was pensive, wary of another attack, and so reluctantly proposed securing one of her son's brood and thus her own secondary heirs in the Opaline Vault. Over the course of the war she has come to hold the merest flicker of trust in the stone genies, enough to leave a minor heir in their keeping if there were no other alternatives. It is such an alternative that the Queen of Blackweb sought with me.

However, I do not have any realm to call my own as of yet and so must pass the request on. Should the young salamander princeling be secured in the world under the sun, or instead be left to the shaitan to deal with? I confess I have no great interest in managing such a ward myself, but there might be some benefit to a stronger alliance than common enmity alone can breed.

What do you do about the queen's proposal to get one of her son's heirs out of harm's way?

[] Host them in your realm, more leverage is always useful even for such a small realm

[] Let the Shaitans deal with it, you do not have the time nor attention to spre involving your realm in the politics of the Salamander princedoms

[] Write in

OOC: I know the loot is not very exciting, but part of this whole abstraction business is keeping the interesting artifacts for the arcs with actual narrative weight, not doing the equivalent of finding them under the couch cushion. Could not fit the ship unfortunately.

I don't think there's any real value in hiding the fact that we're behind the Golden Wind, and I'm confused about why the narrative is presenting it in that way. We had the Apprentice of the Grand Vizier outright call us out for our Plane of Fire adventures. Obviously if Amrelath has been acting in concert with the Golden Wind they're putting two and two together.

I had forgotten about that episode, one moment while I edit.

Edit: Vote fixed.

@DragonParadox, what would hosting the Queen's son entail? What salamander politics would we be getting involved in?

My first thought is hosting him as an important foreign dignitary, potentially having him as a Scholarum student, giving him decent guards, etc. If he's just chilling in our city under our protection there shouldn't be much in the way of Salamander politics at all, given the entire point is to remove him from harm.

Didn't we also have one Moonchaser and some other aerial assets on raiding duty this month?

@Azel, yep.

This is what i get for only reading the google docs sheet.

Moonchaster rolls will be in the next update with the shop. As for the devils they were working with the Golden Wind, and added bonuses to some rolls.

This is probably one of those things you should have notes for. You can't rely solely on your memory for something as complex as the entire Plane of Fire and everything going on there.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, @DragonParadox.

This is probably one of those things you should have notes for. You can't rely solely on your memory for something as complex as the entire Plane of Fire and everything going on there.

I do actually have notes for the plane of fire, it's just I missed that part of the vote so when I made the notes the moonchaser was not in there

The backstabing politics of a minor piratrical principality on the Sea of Fire. You might get assassins for instance.

I was more referring to the fact that the Brazen Throne is in fact aware that the Red Dragon King in the Plane of Balance was acting against them under a false alias. Relatively minor details in the grand scheme of things, but still important enough to be narratively relevant from time to time.
The backstabing politics of a minor piratrical principality on the Sea of Fire. You might get assassins for instance.
Honestly that might be useful for us. Capture a few assassins and suddenly we have leverage over the treacherous Salamander Princedoms.

I do read that normally, it's just I missed that this time because I had notes and looked at those. Was busy figuring out what to roll for simplified naval combat and politics of the Plane of fire... and I missed the obvious.

Sorry about that
A follow-up report (or blurb after a larger report) detailing a raid or strike against Efreeti forces made by some of the assets assigned to the PoF occurring concurrently with the battle which damaged the Golden Wind could work. The chapter did seem to imply that they've been having to deal with the Efreeti getting more clever trying to eliminate them, so arranging an attack while some of our forces are distracted seems fitting.

The backstabing politics of a minor piratrical principality on the Sea of Fire. You might get assassins for instance.
Considering the kind of enemies we already have, I'm less then worried. We are on the shit-list of the Efreeti empire, at least one Archduke of Hell, Tiamat, at least one Demon Lord, at least one of the rulers of Abbaddon, the Illithid empire, a metric fuckton of Essosi mages and nobles who lost everything to Viserys, the Bloodstone Emperor, the Others, the Void...

Let them get their number and get in line.

[X] Offer to foster her son in Sorcerers Deep
-[X] Meet personally as a sign of respect to hash out the terms, namely what we should teach her heir and if there are any things we need to look out for. This meeting will also be used to ensure that there are no diplomatic misunderstandings due to our different cultures.
--[X] If Viserys thinks it's possible she might accept, offer her a trip to SD to show her around, including a visit to Everfire Ironworks and the construction berth of the Dauntless to show off what your realm can achieve.
-[X] Also offer her the sale of minor, non-soulforged undead, who can be used to beef up her defenses, especially against infiltrators. We would also offer other assets, but these are the only ones for which her own people can guarantee that they come with no hidden agendas or other surprises.
-[X] Security detail wise, assign a Black Champion guarding him 24/7, and at least one Erinyes and a Vigilant Hunter guarding his home and accompanying him when he is out and about. Also, light Inquisition spying and regular House of Mirrors check-ups.
