So, unlikely as it is, we can't rule out Akvan or Pit Fiends on the other ships.
Better make sure and Commune if the Asura here is the most powerful passenger on this expedition, besides possibly the mage.

Im not sure how i should react to some of you guys sending me hugs! From your posts so far it makes me look for where the grafting knife is or for looting me and raising my corpse.. for more loot.

Just joined... Have gotten as far as 2901 in the quest so far... I am addicted, and at the same time hate you all because now I literally must go through another 10 000 or so plus whatever is added between now and then to satisfy my addiction! I am honestly afraid of how much of my hair i will rip out before i get there.. The Tiamat debacle, the doom ship... Deciding to sneak and make up an elaborate fake story for Mantarys and immediately killing the gate guard.. I have a feeling these are minor things compared to what I have to look forward to. Glad to be here. Thanks for an awesome quest DP!
Hey since you are already here, a few of us have been wondering about the recent influx of readers, could you shed some light?
I suspect either the quest got mentioned somewhere or another quest ended and we have refugees looking for the next thing.

Not sure for others, for myself i have always been a rabid fanfic reader but had no clue about D&D so wasnt even aware stuff like this was going on. Hooked right away because DP is god of gods. And because the interactions between the regulars makes it so much more emotional and rage and stupidity and why the hell did they do that!!!?? That makes it impossible to put away. Tbh i dont think i actually explained anything and just rambled... which i guess makes me a good fit anyway.

Edit: forgot the only part that actually answers your question... got no mention of the story itself but a fanfic on spacebattles dont remember which except it was a Got one mentioned google dragonparadox if you want a good time and have 6 months of free time to read.

Edit again: >.< Just realized i made DP sound like a hooker sorry about that.

Simple. We are Viserys' groupmind, and by now you should have realized that 'loot it' is his modus operandi. You have just been looted ...

Yes i have very much reached the point in rhe quest where whenever we meet someone new the first thought seems to be loot and then kill and loot. Or mildly useful kill and loot later.

The cabin of the foremost ship is no less carved in perfumed woods, no less bedecked in silk and jewels, but all pales before the dreadful presence of those who stand within. Standing with his back to the larger window is an elder fiend armored in gold and armed in flame and spell-steel. Six arms he has, six blades float through the air, and when he turns six burning eyes look upon the wasteland with twisted pleasure.
"I dare... many things," the six-fold sage's voice is sharp as the blades of stolen steel.
I'm thinking the Asurendra is going to be like the Marilith we summoned and sacrificed a while back -- it's looking more and more like he's rocking Valyrian Steel weapons.

Can we Divine the effects of the storm and whether we can control it? If we are immune to it's effects or keep them away from our more vulnerable members we could take out the ships before they notice our presence, or even force them to break formation so we can go after the priority targets on our terms.

If it's too dangerous, we should then attack right before it ends while they are still hiding from it, or else use magic to make it worse to soften them up.

Could we pretend our dragons are wild ones? Have Balerion yeet one of the ships like he likes to do while the others strafe another, then have them fly off, if they are faster than the skyships (at least during the storm) they would have to break formation to go after them or send a few of their elite to chase them, maybe sweeten the pot by covering them in some kind of shiny? Just brainstorming, I'm sure goldfish will come up with something.

What if we used something like Sympathy to attract undead to a drop zone, then use the cover of the storm to shoot the ships down? Sure the undead are likely pretty weak, but a teeming horde of wraiths is hard to ignore and could tie up a lot of minion support.

Does that work on intelligent creatures? Could we try to trick the ships into trying to weather the storm in a place of our choosing? Not sure if that would expose our presence by messing with their divinations.

Thoughts on the assault;

Dropping Summoned Greater Earth Elementals on the ships from a great height.

Using the previously successful tactic of bringing the ships to a sudden halt using Walls of Force.

Swamping the deck of each ship with Cone of Cold SLAs from Orglash-templates Air Elementals.

Simultaneous Wyvern bombardment using Beetle Bombs.

Ratuer than waiting for the ash storm, kicking off our own Blizzard instead. Efreeti are probably better equipped to handle ash and smoke, and Blizzard allows us to use Blood Snow.

@DragonParadox, will an Earthquake spell affect a flying ship made from stone and wood?

Interlude DXLXXVI: Flames of Rage
Flames of Rage

Twenty-Fifth Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

Mia's first instinct was to get the girl out of the crowd of insane spirits. Alas, she could not think of any way to do that besides trying to negotiate, and she had a feeling Shara would outright strangle her if she even suggested that, probably rightly. The next spell I'm learning is proper translocation that can carry more than me along, even if it's only a few hundred feet, the young mage vowed silently. For now, however, it was on them to play the cards that they had been dealt. Maybe the King would raise her to spit in the eye of the Drunken God.

The inquisitor's voice was barely above a whisper as she summoned two hippogriffs, of the sort lesser knights rode, already veiled behind a glamour alike to that which she had gifted her allies. "Rise and dive upon the foe," she commanded just as softly before reaching out with her mind along the threads of awareness that bound her to Anya and the Westerosi warrior Clegane: "Get ready..."

There was no need for any signal beyond that. Half a ton of conjured but nonetheless very solid flesh, bone, claws, and hooves diving from on high was not something anyone could miss.

The masked man was knocked sprawling on his back by the force of the blow, though otherwise suffering no worse harm than a slash across his palm when he warded his face from one of the creature's beaks. "Who profanes this holy sacrament?!" he shouted even as his entourage of spirits literally tore the meat from the beasts' bones. Bet they won't be happy with a mouth full of air, some distant part of Mia's mind noted even as she flung four darts of translucent flame, still half hidden behind her tombstone even as her own veil broke.

The mage burned and scrambled among the weeds as Anya's conjured blade slashed at his face, cutting a long line of blood into his mask even as Sandor and Argo charged into the gathering of maenads with Shara only half a step behind. Axe, sword, and daggers bit deep, blood spurted in high arcs bright as crimson wine. The madwomen laughed as the mage reached for something in his robes and vanished in a flash of unnatural green light.

How far had he gone? Mia wondered, looking around frantically, calling on the power of her earring to see the unseen.

Two of the spirits reached out with clawed hands to steal some of Clegane's vitality even as he split the head of a third like an over-ripe melon. They seemed to be concentrating on him for some reason.

The only thing Mia heard was the sound of shattering glass... once... twice... thrice, and fire hotter than anything she had ever felt roared up her robes, eating through her wards and protections like so much kindling.

"Your turn to burn, bitch!" Mad laughter followed her into the darkness.

***

Anya watched with horror as Mia collapsed into the flames, not knowing if she was alive or dead. She wanted to rush forward to check, to heal her, but she had to stop the madman... there. Still unseen, his was the better veil, but it wouldn't save him. She called to the earth and the earth answered, vines rippling out from the earth to lash and trip. The mage was down again, even as Shara darted from the chaotic melee to strike at the more dangerous foe.

The enemy spit blood and curses upon the vines and they withered as he shakily found his feet again. "Behold the servants of the one who would put us all in cages as narrow as they... behold, my children, those who are truly mad! Teach them the error of their ways!"

The crowd that had been milling about uncertainly since the sudden explosion of violence surged forward, a tide of flesh. They wouldn't do a damn thing to stop Sandor and Argo in the end, but they could slow them down. But Shara was already moving, leaping over a tumbled statue to strike.

At the last moment the mage managed to throw one more concoction in her face, but the young inquisitor shook it off and the daggers descended. The masked man fell one last time.

"Stop!"one of the maenads called. "Parley!"

"The fuck we're going to parley!" Sandor shouted as he sliced some fingers off another of the spirit women.

"We were compelled to obey a perversion of our god's will!" the same one shouted again.

The next words Anya spoke were the hardest that had ever passed her lips. "Give quarter..."

OOC: Mia is still alive, though only thanks to the Temporary HP and Resist Energy (Fire).

Okay, so... the Grand Cultist is dead, one Maenad is dead, and five Maenads surrendered and claimed that they were under compulsion or something? @DragonParadox, is this right, or are more of the Maenads dead?

Also, Mia is charred but still alive. Poor girl.

What levelups are we looking at here? They did really well for what they went up against.

  1. Correct yes
  2. Shara Mia and Anya are leveling from this. Argo is close, but not quite there.

I don't trust them.
Not really.

But the Inquisitors really had no other choice, so there's that as a resolution.

Seems like I'll have to indefinitely put off outlawing Zagreus and ruining his fountain.

For fuck's sake.
And here I got all hopeful, too.
:/

Good chapter, DP.
G'night all.
