You guys never got to asking Yrael IC about the upper planes, partly that was me pushing the arc away time and again OOC but partly it is his IC reticence to bring up the matter. I will say this much, he does not talk about heaven, at all. He talks about his fellow archons, he talks about building a better world, he does not talk about heaven.

By the way that is the arc I have planed after the conclave.

*ahem*

CALLED IT!

[precognition intensifies]

I made that prediction just yesterday to DP. And I'm sure he went "how does he do that?"

By paying attention and being thoughtful, clever and a tiny bit lucky I presume.

I used to use clever and sheer volume of ideas. It... May have been less than helpful/enjoyable for my fellow threadgoers.

I'm going to copy Crake's (apparent) method. Well, try, anyway.

*So many ideas, vast majority of them are dumb, must. hold. back.*

[This is where I would like to give an example of me doing what I said I would try to do. Got nothing]

(@Crake! Pm me an idea I can comfortably agree with and let me pass it off as my own plz? I'll pay you in SV hug ratings if you do!

Extra high quality idea gets all caps in-thread shouty things about how much you rock ;)).

So this means we can have outposts in heaven. For any angel that needs work. And gaurding the devils from eating good souls. New endgame established.

My ideas are too emblematic of my inherent greatness for that.
How unfortunate for me then, or at least my desire to get away with being lazy ;)

I suppose I will just have to be clever, thoughtful and come to my own conclusions about things/formulate my own ideas then. Thinking for oneself is work, but imo, worthy. I should thank you for encouraging me to do so. So, thanks.

Though, I am interested in hearing what you honestly think about things and what actions we (the thread as Viserys) should take, and why, regardless. Give my brain something to chew on :D

Winning vote

[] Have your companions seek out Lucan's mages while you speak to one of the major players in the Starry Sept. They will operate with extreme caution, taking every reasonable step to remain undiscovered, including layering mundane disguises under their magical ones.
-[] Seek out Septa Maer. After introductions are made, delicately mention her shift in stance toward the practice of magic. While we are glad to see her moderate her views, the change has been rather abrupt according to what we've heard from fellow attendees. Ask what brought about such a radical shift and how those among her faction are reacting to it. This is entirely nonjudgemental, simply the curiosity of a fellow believer, trying to understand.
--[] If Viserys thinks it appropriate, he will broach the subject of why the Faith would need to gather so many powerful mages and turn the talents of lesser miracle workers to constructing what could be seen by others as an arsenal. For what purpose would they be gathered, and perhaps more importantly, whose? The point of this is to try and direct Maer towards the possibility of the Faith's charity being used against it, with an aim of needless war.

Part MMDCCCXL: In the Balance of the Faith Part Six
In the Balance of the Faith Part Six

Sixteenth Day of the Ninth Month 293 AC

While Dany and the others scour Oldtown in search of Lucan's entourage, seeking with spell, gold, and words softly spoken to find those who can tell you more of the Chosen's doings and his nature, you remain in the Starry Sept to weaken his growing coalition of support. Elder Septa Maer is the source of most of Lucan's votes outside of his core supporters and so it is to her your gaze turns first in the hopes that she might see the dangers of arming the Faith with magic. A tool, after all, might also be a weapon and you greatly fear that the distance between the Faith and the Faith Militant is only as far as a warrior drawing his sword.

Thankfully it is not difficult to step past her assistant and close associate, Septa Erline, partly playing upon the reputation you had gained debating with Lucan and partly due to the sheer relief you can practically feel relief radiating off her when she speaks of her mentor, like one who had carried a heavy millstone and is now giddy from finally being able to set it down.

"It was a miracle of the Mother Herself I tell you, I didn't hold much with talk of angels before, but when the Elder Sister woke without the sickness she had been bearing for years, the one all the maesters said would kill her... well you can't really deny your own eyes and ears now can you." The woman spoke freely, seemingly happy to share the glad tidings with someone. "It was strange though, when Brother Lucan first came to speak to her the Elder Septa was suspicious, almost turned him away at first until he spoke to her about what he believed was the Seven's calling. Thought he was warmonger..." She shook her head. "I wonder where all those dark tales are coming from, east or west? Wherever you look there's..." she cuts herself off, obviously not wanting to step too far into naming foes before a stranger. "Anyway I'm sure she will be happy to speak to you, Brother Dywin, to lay those fears to rest."

"If only she could," you think but do not say. In truth it is you who come to sow anew the seeds of doubt into her mind.

Perhaps in a better world you would simply speak to Lucan and see if you could reach some manner of agreement, but too many pledges have been made, too many plans laid out. Foes you are and foes you will remain.

As you approach the door you see golden light spilling out from under it, not candle-light nor torch-light, not even clear unwavering mage-fire, of the kind you would be surprised to find in her chambers, but an all too familiar radiance that has you holding back a curse.

The door opens without a creak to reveal the septa already has a guest, speaking softly over a platter of tea and scones. The angel of the Father's Law, of which you had known from foresight but not from fact, sits there. Seven wings frame a figure garbed in flawless white, his face unlined but hair also white as snow, crowned with a radiant circlet.

Pale luminous white eyes measure you from the top of your head to the soles of your feet: "Greetings, I am Gerald, a messenger and helper in troubled times." the voice is soft and sober, perfect as a bronze bell new-forged from the smith's hand... or perhaps better to say the Smith. Had you known less of deathless spirits bright and dark you would not have been able to read the ruffle in his feathers, the subtle tensing of the jaw behind the mask of serenity when Maer greets you in turn and invites you in. He suspects something about you. It would have been too much to hope you suppose for Lucan not to notice you. Had he already guessed Dywyn's identity from knowing of your presence near Oldtown, or did he merely see you as one of uncommon skill and veiled fate?

Regardless though you would find it much more difficult, perhaps even impossible, to sway Septa Maer from her current course in such company, the angel though could provide an opportunity himself. Who better to know Brother Lucan's mind after all. Then again you cannot be certain of the chances of attempting to draw secrets from a wary angel. While he cannot lie, nothing keeps him from refusing to answer.

What do you do?

[] Keep to the original plan, try to sway Maer
-[] Write in

[] Try to learn more about Lucan from Gerald
-[] Write in

[] Take your leave and try to take another action during the evening (maluses to rolls will be applied for the lost time/haste)
-[] Write in

[] Write in

OOC: Just assume the angel has seven wings and is dressed in robes. This was the closest I could find. On a more substantive note this is both a hurdle and an opportunity for you guys so I thought it only fair to give you a chance to reassess your actions.

Interesting.

Gimme a bit. There's a way to hit both of the issues we want to open here, just need to phrase it right.

I know that someone will suggest it, so : I am voting against murder. This is a diplomatic opportunity !

The ideal situation here would be to continue on our course but Diplomance the Archon too. It would be difficult, but also amazing ! Perhaps a shift towards institutional arguments about the long-term effects of the Faith Militant ?
A more likely outcome would be information-gathering.
