Again this does not excuse the character but it makes him something more than a cardboard cut-out of a villain that the audience can boo when he is around and cheer when he dies.
It also makes it good writing on GRRM's part. All too often you do find <stereotype> characters/plots in fiction. Well, and sometimes in reality.

+1, thanks

I apologize. My comment clearly said that I had not read your post. I was asking it if was worth the effort or going through the last few pages looking for your posts to see what you had written, or if you had just said something stupid like "all religious people are evil".
Azel then said that you had not written that. So I read your posts, and must say that I misjudged you.

Laïcité is a french word that's very difficult to translate, and that is therefore used as-in in english-speaking articles that talk about it. Sometimes they say "laicism", if that helps?
Basically it's secularism - actual secularism, not the American joke version. Keep your religion private and out of politics or most public events! You can have your church, but don't expect a fucking government tax to help run it!

And I'm not super enthusiastic about getting into another religion debate today, sorry. I thought that you were getting annoyed at my comments (not firefrog's) and therefore prepared to defend my position.
PM me someday if you want to argue about why French secularism is the perfect secularism, but please not tonight.
Thank you talon.

...Having learned of numbers of drakes Golden Company has, I now really want to use this orb against them.
Other dragons would be angry, but not to a point if we used it on an actual dragon, yes?

Turning, what, 42 23 drakes with Prismatic Breath weapons on Golden Company?
And then getting to capture all of them?

I think I'm fully justified in not giving a single fuck about how horrific this thing is to every other dragon in the multiverse.
Fuck Timmie, we are looting her dragonskes now.

@Duesal, I seek your support for sheer loot this presents us with.
@Azel, your support too, because this will neatly deal with one of the most problematic factors GC has. I really don't think Erynies alone will cut it, magic arrows or not.

Ah. No point in PMing you then, because I agree. Separation of church and state is good and most be done with finality and thoroughness.

On that note, I will now say something violently unpopular: No heart tree for the Imperial Palace.

I can understand the hate for religious debates though they can get way off topic and very um lets call it tense.

23 drakes. Also, why would this work on them?

Is there any reason we cant implement a joke weapon. You know like an enormous construct of a baby to send against enemies to humiliate?
Weeeellll - yes. It's impractical and serves no reason - after their defeat our enemies' opinion doesn't matter. And witnesses of said defeat won't care if it was our legion marching in lockstep, a darkenbeast aerial assault aka 'burn burn burn' or the Harbinger taking an hour to systematically slaughter them.

No heart tree for the Imperial Palace.
Well, duh.
It'd be a flying super-ship.
We can't get enough earth on it for a sufficiently big (to emphasise the awesomeness) Heart Tree to be grown.
What with it's roots going way too deep and stuff.

*completely misses the point :V*

I have not rolled anything, don't worry. I just needed to explain some things in the wake of some of the arguments regarding Melisandre being strongly linked to her canon actions being viewed as unmitigated evil and nothing else.
Ah, alright.

Personally, I'm offended by the mere idea of good and evil, and no, not D&D Good and Evil, but the general kind.
As for Canon Mel... well... that's a book in of itself...

Heresy I say absolute heresy. We are going to make a yggdrasil.

Prepare for Viserys having a deeply atavistic "F THAT THING" moment in the vicinity of a "what will save" modifier to do it regardless.

Heresy I say absolute heresy.
Heresy is the act of diverging from established dogma of a faith.
This would be more Apostasy, the leaving of the congregation of the faithful.

Though it's actually neither of the two, as Viserys isn't a Old Gods worshiper and thus also shouldn't have a holy site of them on his seat of government.

Why would the Imperial Palace need a Heart Tree?

Half the reason we're investing Lya time into studying runecrafting is to use it on the palace. We want wards rivaling or possibly exceeding the ones we saw in Winterfell.

In fact, a good anchor for said wards if necessary would be the Tree of the Dawn Age.
Would it not?
I assumed that all reds and reds-related draconic entities are applicable for effects from this thing?
@DragonParadox?
It's likely that things that aren't actually dragons are below the Orb's notice.

It's actually easier to just kill the drakes, dude. Our Erinyes outrange them by 40 ft., and that's before the Distance enchantment I've been bugging @Goldfish about is added to their bows.

Then have them read the Draconic Compendium for an extra +2 to attack and damage rolls to dragons.

Then enchant a nice big batch of Dragonbane Arrows.

I'm not worried about the drakes. I'm worried about the True Dragons the clerics will be calling down on us.
