A Reforged World (NO SV, You are King of Italy, in a Greatly Changed World)

I wouldn't get your hopes up for industrilisation right now due to many factors.

1) Geography: Italy is mountainous with little flatlands in the north, that means industrialsaition will be generaly stuck in the north with transportaion links being very weak and expensive, not exactly fertile grounds for expansion.
2) Resources: if we want to do half of the things we want with industry we need more of everything but Italy is dirt poor so we need to expand and that is going to be expensive due to the fact there isn't a lot of good recource rich regions around us.
3) Agriculture: We only have a steam engine which while good is not an industrial revolution, first we need to experience a agricultural revolution in were the needs for labour in the country side falls and people leave for the cities. We still are stuck with serfdom.

And these are the factors I can think of right now.

Hmm..does the Government (The Institution) own any farms?
no.

Legally they are not allowed to work any arable land. While they are renting out to anyone who can pay for it, much of the land owned by Luciano or the Government, is not allowed to end any agreements with the tenants who live there...

And interestingly enough, are not allowed to tax any product from it.

Meaning the people who work on Luciano or Italian Kingdom Land, are growing incredibly wealthy every year.

All because of a legal loophole that hasn't been closed yet. A loophole that will eventually lead to Most Government land being developed for the Army, or the Navy.

Fun Fact: While England is known to be the birthplace of the Industrial revolution, they (and Scotland) are the first to end Serfdom as well.

Why? One of the reasons is the fact that: Apparently because the upkeep of keeping around serfs that could've spend money to buy their own necessities wasn't worth it.

Book 3 Chapter 9: Italia's Brilliance
Book 3 Chapter 9: Italia's Brilliance
In Which The World Changes for Better and Worse.

-[X]The Prime Ministers' Pet Project: The Prime minister is wishing to use the surplus of Gold in the budget to fund schools… Grammar School he calls them, to teach latin, Italian, and Greek, along with mathematics and literacy. He just needs your support for the Senate to Approve them. DC: ??? Reward: You begin the process of founding new schools for the Major cities. (Will complete This turn) Rolled:D100 => 71+30=101 (+10 to effectiveness in Regions)

Effectiveness In all Regions:D100 + 30 => 102+D100 + 30 => 104+D100 + 30 => 117+D100 + 30 => 94+D100 + 30 => 96+D100 + 30 => 66

This was First Minister Randio's crowning achievement. And that was saying something because he honestly didn't think he would be able to get it to work.

But it did. He managed to find, create, and otherwise build from the ground up… everything. He had purchased or built entirely new complexes for schooling.

Hired Teachers or trained them in a very rigorous process that will even the great scholars of Italy would find hardpressed to pass.

These schools, all funded by the Government save for the basic supplies that all students would have to provide themselves, would be open to anyone, but primarily to children from the ages of 12, to 18. All Children provided that their parents gave consent and provided they could get supplies.

The First Minister was hoping to make it all funded, but he was unable to. It would be far to expensive, even for the economy of the nation booming as it is.

While the First Minister hoped to build universities all over the country, local universities and schools that were already there fought back at the encroachment of their independent charters. And while he was disappointed he could not continue… he was happy. Happy that his work was done. And he was able to do far more than he hoped.

Reward: The Italian School system has been created, giving you, in several years, the beginning of a highly educated population that will begin to snowball the inventions and ideas, and the marketplace of ideas. It also brings more people to be educated… meaning there may be more unrest if you do something unpopular.

The Wealth of Italy will be decreased by 2. But in 20 turns all Italian Rumor mill rolls will increase by 20. Permanently. And every 5 turns after, will increase by 5 until it caps at 50.

-[X]A City of Marble, A City of Light: You and your engineers are going to do an estimation of trying to restore the Old Palaces within the City for your use. DC:??? Reward: Rebuilding the city may come cheaper, and you can do your own work. Rolled: D100 + 85 => 110+D100 + 85 => 116+D100 + 85 => 106+D100 + 85 => 114+D100 + 85 => 126+D100 + 85 => 141+D100 + 85 => 89

You looked at the city of Marble. And you saw an opportunity.

Opportunity to make a truly modern city. One that will stand the test of time… forever.

Reward: All projects and future projects in Rome will have a decrease of all turn costs by 3. And the DC will decrease to 40.
-------------------------------------
-[X] The Men who would make you an Autocrat: The Grazini's. The so-called Royalists, and His Majesty's most Loyal Friends in the Senate. That is to say, they want to destroy the Senate, and the farcical Republican institutions that had been instilled into the Nation. While you do not agree with their… final goal, you also see that they can be good allies in a pinch, to secure a majority in government. DC: 20 Reward: You meet with the Royalists, and find out more about their objectives and political makeup. Rolled:D100 + 30 => 120+D100 + 30 => 43

The Grazini's were, remarkably, simple and complex. Their ideas of being an autocracy carried merit to them for a simple reason. You have proven yourself an incredible problem solver, one that has never once been able to back down from a challenge, and always come back from it with a new perspective.

That was the simple part. They wanted to empower you, to strip the Senate of its power so that you could be the philosopher king that they believed you to be.

Yet that was where they were incredibly complex.

They see you, not as a hero, but as a necessity, a representative of the nation, who must be protected and used to create an Italian face across the world. They wanted to wage war and expand to markets unheard of because they felt as if Italy was in a terrible, almost impossible position. That requires it to expand its reach so that it cannot be embargoed by the rest of Europe and the World.

They believe that the Navy was lucky. They believe the Army was saved by incredible luck, and what they needed was a defense. A strong defense. A Navy that will be the benchmark for all the world to challenge. The Army, a sword forged in battle, is able to meet any challenge.

The Merchants protected. The Wealth of Nations flowed from Italy to others.

Leading them is a new Leader, or rather, and old leader rising again, the Grand Duke of Naples, your Godfather, Cosmo De Medici. He had returned from retirement to rejoin the political arena. He is a shrewd man, a diplomat, a warrior, and a financier with few equals. His position grants him great wealth and even greater responsibilities.

Yet he trusts you. And you know him well. But he is also a man of ambition and grudges.

It would take you controlling him. And him controlling you, if he would take power.

They are the second largest faction currently in the Senate, and they wish to be

Reward: You see the Grazini's, and their objectives. Militarize, and build defenses all over the border. Create a navy that will be surpassed by none. Wage war if necessary.

And trade everywhere that we can, for wealth needs to flow.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]The Last Republicans: There are not many that would consider themselves Ardent Republicans… That much was certain when they dwindled in the last few years. But they are men who were of the same Cloth as Machevelis coat before Macheveli chose the State, then his republican ideals, men who saw the bright future of a Republic smothered away by compromise, instead of dealing with it. DC: 20 Reward: You meet with the Republicans. The men who would have given everything for a Republic. Rolled:D100 + 30 => 116+D100 + 30 => 130+D100 + 30 => 57

The Republicans are…well for a republic. Many would see you removed, except many would find it hypocritical, seeing as you were chosen by representatives all over the nation.

They are radical in their beliefs… not only in several… views but on law and property rights. They wanted Serfdom abolished, stripping away the privileges of the old nobility, by force if necessary, and killing them all, for they had no place in a modern nation.

The more radicals at least wanted that. The Republicans themselves were the smallest of the opposition party, but the most popular among the People. The Times New Roman, the Paper of the Republicans, grows larger in readership every year, and almost everyone agrees that they are inflammatory and crude.

But they are for the People in ways none of the others are.

While they may want serfdom abolished in Italy, their main goal, and perhaps the goal that has seen them in great success and scorn, is the formation of city charters, allowing the cities and the republics to have more autonomy on their budgets, and increase their own representatives.

It would be a threat to the balance, and increase the divide in the North and South. As well as threaten to reopen old wounds.

Senator Octavian is the leader, and perhaps among all of the men who could claim leadership, is the most popular.

A great writer, an excellent judge of character, and even a man who annoyed you in the past… would be excellent.

But one thing that you do not know, is just what exactly his end goal is.

Reward: You learn of the Republicans. A group that may not wish to overthrow you anymore…

But they will want to do everything in their power to make a republic without a republic.

-[X]The Steam Engine: You will take a look at the New Steam Engine, and see what you can do. DC: ??? Reward: You finally see what Leonardo's steam engine can do. Rolled:

You have done something incredible.

And you created something that will change the world.

(Continued in: The Diplomacy of Europe)
-------------------------------------------------

-[X]Simple Matters of Trust: You and Isabella take a long look at each other, as she looks at you. "You want to know something… I honestly thought you were going to rape me when we wed…The fact you didn't, means you are a better man than any man who would have been my husband." DC: ??? Reward: Isabella begins to trust you fully. Rolled:D100 + 30 => 125+D100 + 30 => 125+D100 + 30 => 119+D100 + 30 => 117+D100 + 30 => 119+D100 + 30 => 98+D100 + 30 => 91+D100 + 30 => 69

You looked to Isabella and tried your best to make things… less awkward between the two of you. After the previous few nights of constipation and her taking command… well it was just awkward. How could you both look at each other?

Sometimes you snuck a peak and all you could see was her face slowly turning crimson, and then she looked away, finding something else to look at.

It was maddening. Absolute insanity.

You didn't understand what you were doing wrong? And you just couldn't see it. What had you done wrong?

"Luciano." She finally spoke to you after what felt like hours in the room. "Are you alright?"

"Did I do something wrong?" You asked.

That earned a surprised glance from her. "No, what makes you think that?"

"I'm unsure what you are doing. You are looking at me, then you look away like I hurt you? I don't want to hurt you, so I'm asking you what you are doing?"

Then she did something you didn't expect. She giggled. "Luciano, oh my dear husband." She turned to face you and then leaned in and kissed you. "There are so many things that are going through my mind that I want to tell you. But I'll only say one thing, one thing that you will understand entirely." She smiled. "You make me feel like I matter, and that I am valued… and one more thing that is something no other person has ever done for me."

She then placed your hand on her belly, but she pulled your face with her other hand to her eyes. "You make me feel safe."

Your face became luminous and red, but you took a breath. "I didn't know."

"Now you do." She said as she looked at you with a smile. "Now… close your eyes, I want the next time you see me, I'll be naked, and we will be making an heir."

A cheeky smile rose on your face, as you closed your eyes. "As my queen commands."

Reward: Isabella's relationship with Luciano is now 10/10.

Though Luciano's boundless Empathy, trust, and nobility… Isabella realizes she has been blessed with a life where she can be as free as she can be.

She will do anything for her husband…even betraying her own family.
------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Retiernment: Macheveli is enjoying his retirement. But that does not mean you do not come to him for wisdom. DC: 0 Reward: You get Wisdom from your Old Master. Rolled:D100 + 30 => 109+D100 + 30 => 94+D100 + 30 => 57

Macheveli noticed the jump in your step. "I take it your not here for advice?"

"Not entierly Master." You stated with a smile. "Though I do have to ask... is this normal?"

"To be a young man enjoying physical intimacies with a woman?" He raised an eyebrow. "Yes its completely normal."

"No I mean... is it normal that I'm asking my wife to be the one who begins?" You asked.

That made your master raise an eyebrow. "How so?"

"She feels as though I trust her, but she believes that she should be in charge of when she wants to have children?" You replied. "Is that normal?"

Your master took a breath. "I can't say that it is normal in any relationship for one party to be in total control of the other." He stated. "Though I do ask... why?"

"Because she asked." You replied.

Your master took a moment to take a breath and think for a moment. "You are very wise to do that."

"What? Not take my right as husband and king?"

"No. By not. You have given her ample reason to trust you, because you are not going to hurt her, or heavens forbid, place her in a dangerous position." He stated. "She is a powerful piece for you to use."

"She is also my wife." You said.

"Indeed. And you best remember that too." He replied. "Else you become like every other monarch in Europe."

Reward: You and Macheveli talk a little. And you both talk a bit.
-------------------------------------------

-[X]The Diplomatic Situation: You need to know how the state is viewed by the Rest of Europe. DC: 40 Reward: You see the documents. And worry about progress. Rolled:D100 + 30 => 88

Wait a minute, wasn't my plan supposed to be the victor? I guess I'll take the City of Marble so we can do the sewers and other stuff next turn, but it's a shame we didn't do inventions for the Canon shot.

Eh... What I'm about to give you all will make everything... well better.

Hopefully.

@Kaiser Chris remind me you give you all an extra personal action next turn for my mistake.

[X]Retiernment: Macheveli is enjoying his retirement. But that does not mean you do not come to him for wisdom. DC: 0 Reward: You get Wisdom from your Old Master. Rolled:D100 + 30 => 109+D100 + 30 => 94+D100 + 30 => 57
Uuuuummm
[X]To Design a Better Gun (Cannons, Ammunition): You want to see if you can make a better cannon shot. Reward: You make the explosive better.
This is the action that was last.
Eh... What I'm about to give you all will make everything... well better.

Hopefully.

@Kaiser Chris remind me you give you all an extra personal action next turn for my mistake.

Everything got all screwed up it seems on my end when I called the vote and the Tally was not right.
Alright then.

A Mistake fixed.
So I fucked up.

But uhh...

Our engineering...

We invented the cartridge.

To think that all that it needed was a shape.

Some place to hold the powder. At the back, it was close… at least in the matter of speaking.

Then it just was a matter of chemistry. But inspiration hit you like… well like a clock. A clock mechanism to be precise, that showed a button being pressed to release the mechanism. It was a Swiss clock that was almost bringing you blistering precision.

Then you made the prototype. It was a massive shell-like construction, with a lead top, and a button at the back filled with a charge to light the gunpowder.

When you fired the mechanism, it exploded and flew… far, fast. Incredibly accurate. It hit the house nearly a mile away. But then you tried again, with a lead shot filled with gunpowder.

And instead of… well a crash. The Explosion was incredible. Perfect, almost mystifying.

And than… It frightened you just how easy it would be to produce a canon that could cartridges, from the back, with a mechanism that could load it in… then close, than fire…

Well, it began with a dream…

And it will end with a nightmare for your enemies.

Reward: You have invented the Modern Artillery shell, and the chemistry to make it.

You can also try to make a smaller size for handheld weaponry…

And you have an idea for a breechloading cannon.
