A Reforged World (NO SV, You are King of Italy, in a Greatly Changed World)

Now, Protestant France and it's Monster King will get off scot-free with all their Atrocities and twisting of Religion for cruel purposes, since we are getting forced into a Peace Deal.
That's just how shit goes at times. The morally good faction does not always win. Besides it's fun seeing the underdog win sometimes and they did deserve it.

The French Army of Aquitane:D100 - 30 => 62
The Defense of Aquitaine:D100 - 30 => 54
The French Army of the Netherlands:D100 - 30 => 60
a super duper future enemy Leader assassinated
Ironically the REAL French super generals is the guy who was in charge of the Army of Aquitaine and it's defence along with the commander of the Army of the Netherlands. Guessing the French General in Aquitaine is specced in Military/Charisma. The French General in the Netherlands is specced in Military/Intrigue who is prob a good Calvary commander also he might be Joachim Murat's ancestor. Without the maluses they would have obliterated us.

BTW what are those French Generals getting up to?
Trying to figure out if they should murder their king in a Palace coup and place his son on the throne...

Or give him to the peasants he has stolen food and gold from to finacne his wars of conquest.

The Pope is not getting out of this one alive.

"We will be remembered." The Bishop said. "And the people will be ready to be martyred for their homes, and for their faith."

The Pope King then killed the bishop with a swift stroke of his sword, and then… ordered a bombardment. 21 days later…

The City of Frankfurt was naught but rubble. But the King was true to his word. He had his engineers poison the wells. Dam the river, and take every stone and brick from the bridges, to the churches, to the homes that were destroyed.
NGL Frankfurt kinda deserved this. Standard practice for sieges during this time was if the attackers took a city/castle by storm the defenders had no rights and could be completely slaughtered without any repercussion and all of their property was forfeit. That's not to say that every time a city or castle was stormed that literally everyone inside was killed – often a commander would allow looting for a certain length of time, like three days, and then after that they would put a stop to it.

So from a defenders perspective the worst case was that you were completely overwhelmed and everybody was killed. Even if you survived somehow, you would have lost all of your possessions. Standard to siege warfare was the offer of surrender, usually presented the moment the attacking army arrived outside the fortified walls. The terms of surrender varied and were often tensely negotiated around, and would often change over the course of a siege, so while you might reject the opening offer of surrender – it was generally felt to be dishonourable or even an act of betrayal to surrender a fortress without putting up some kind of fight – throughout the siege both sides would be sending out feelers to see if the other was interested in negotiating a surrender. These surrenders could even be conditional, a very common one was that if no relief army arrived by x date the fortress would surrender – that put the blame on whoever was supposed to rescue you rather than on the defenders.

In practice, if you were going to end up surrendering you probably wanted to surrender right before your walls collapsed – that way you could secure the best deal while also clearly having done the most you could and thus avoiding risk of dishonour or accusations of treachery. Of course, that's much easier said than done.

But that's not what Frankfurt did, instead they suicidally kept on resisting until the French broke the walls and sacked the city. Even while they managed to stand long enough to satisfy their honor and render any accusations of treason or dishonor moot, the leaders of the defense didn't have the good sense to surrender on terms but kept on resisting until they got their whole city killed. Also basically insulting the French King didn't help either. It's like they had a fucking death wish. While what happened to the common folk of Frankfurt was a tragedy, Frankfurt's leaders absolutely deserved to get executed for their stupidity.

But I am going to say that in the months that delayed the French invasion it allowed the Germans to gather an effective resistance, which led to the Pope Kings grand defeat and the destruction of his army in Germany.

While yes the operational objectives of fucking them up by taking over France and cutting him compleatly off failed. His army was still destroyed, France is on the back foot and peace is going to be made next turn, with or without Italian intervention in the peace conference.

In the peace conference we're going to Balkanized France and they will eat it whether they like it or not

Considering how France did, the best we can hope for is to get a treaty in which the concessions we have to give to France aren't problematic to us while saddling them enough clauses that we somehow manage to come out slightly on top. We may want to start thinking on what we're willing to compromise regarding France (either that or prove France is involved with the Ottomans and demand that any peace conference to be delayed until the Ottomans can also be dragged to the peace table, under the claim that all sides need to come to the table for peace to happen; if we can pair the Ottomans and France togehter as one side of this war, then we can use the Ottoman's failures to blunt the diplomatic cred France got from its lucky wins).

There is one detail left out.
During all the chaos, the Ottomans decide to have another go and in spite of being basically an afterthought, gets absolutely wrecked and now is facing a counter invasion, while Italy is still paying hardly any attention at all!.

Technically Bonapartes invasion is illegal.

That should tell you all you about how much focus is going on in Greece.

So here is something that is kinda a sneak peak of the final turn.

The north German millitary was the greatest fighting force in the history of the world.

Everything after that was a mistake

There will be peace, whether through your actions, or another.

Otto looked at you, and smiled, happily as he set down the news paper. "Like what you see?"

"Peace proposed, The Pope King is Dead."

"How do you know he is?" you asked.

"Because there has been no fighting and the French want to have… terms." He smiled. "This is victory."

"We nearly lost the army of Sicily, and the Arditi are still over the alps fighting." You replied. "How is this victory?"

"We've lost nothing but men and money." He replied. "That should be a victory."

He was right, and you hated it.
