Something something "You are the horn that wakes the sleepers, you are the shield that guards the realms of men", not everyone south has forgotten why you are here.

I would let Dany just continue to speak.

She already seems like a person of great power, and she isn't having any problems convincing the people of the Night's Watch so far.

If Viserys tries to speak, he might have to reveal more about himself and his magical talents, and someone might put two and two together.
The thing is, I have zero problem with the Night's Watch putting two and two together.

Look at this:
Seeing Dany look to you for an answer you shrug. They would always remember her the most of all your company. She might as well play the part and so she does. "So I am Comander Pike and so we have heard of the troubles of the Watch and thought to look into the matter," she answers.

"What are our troubles to ye?" Cotter asks, the tone far less belligerent than the words, almost filled with grudging hope.
They're hopeful that people are starting to pay attention to their problems. I want them to know that Viserys Targaryen gives a damn.

[X] Answer
-[X] Introduce yourself as Viserys Targaryen, King in the Stepstones.
-[X] I have always fought the enemies of mankind wherever I find them, from demons and devils, to hostile fey and even Deep Ones. And recently I have heard of the troubles of the Night's Watch. I do not doubt that there are monstrous things stirring Beyond the Wall in this age of awakening magic, but I wish to personally investigate what the realms of man may face so that we may all better prepare.
-[X] Of course, pay a fair price for any information and maps he is willing to give you.

We can let them know who we are after we solve their problems.

My main concern is that they will wonder why we are here or how we know about their problems when we officially have never been more North than Storms End.

This would then lead to concerns about Aemon, and they could end up making trouble with him while we are gone.

We can tell them after we help them out, to ensure that they see us in a good light and don't try and do anything unwise.

I mean, within the next week or week-and-a-half we're going to be personally visiting Aemon, and it's not going to be in secret. Cat's completely out of the bag there whether we like it or not, so it feels pointless to be trying to hide our identity now when we could be milking it for good reputation points.

At the very least it sounds like these guys will be glad that someone in the south doesn't just dismiss their pleas for help as exaggerations or outright lies.

There is value in delaying word of us at the wall. We wont be able to teleport while north of the wall. I'm mildly worried, it's the most vulnerable we've been strategic movement wise we have been in awhile. I'm much happier with revealing who we are after our business in the no-teleport zone is concluded.

I actually see it as more valuable that word of our venture Beyond the Wall spreads among the Night's Watch. That way the Lord Commander will take us far more seriously if he knows that we've faced what his rangers have faced. If you're worried about our enemies somehow finding out about our absence from Sorcerer's Deep, our friends are more than capable of holding the place, and most of our major enemies have access to potent divinations that would find out about it anyway.

EDIT: Also, huge fucking reputation boost. A sorcerer king heard the pleas of the Night's Watch and personally went to investigate, then upon returning drowned the Night's Watch in gold and supplies, and later with weapons and armor and horses.

If this actually causes trouble, it's better to cause it now then when we leave and won't hear about it afterwards.

We can Windwalk, or Dany can turn into a Dragon and fly with us.

We are still infinitly more mobile than any human.

Yeah, the fact that this no-teleport zone applies to everyone is actually fantastic. It's hard for devils and such to even get at us here, and if they did we could catch them for sacrifices even more easily.
