Is this the beginning of the cultural phenomenon "The King's Quarters"?

In times past a Lord would retire to secondary quarters when visited by his King.

This custom arose in a time when the King's presence was rare, after great notice and well prepared for.

In the reign of King Viserys Targaryen First of his Name, the luxuries of predictability and notice are non-existent and after the uncounted instance of a Lord suffering the indignity of a hastily prepared bed, or worse still the embarrassment of poor personal quarters for the King to reside, all great keeps, castles and manses worth the name were built for the King's comfort, kept clean, well stocked and presentable year round. Just in case.

Guys, our presence is as a figurehead and shouldn't cost us much but if this takeover goes bad it sets the tone moving forward.

Let's not let a month of where we sleep screw us over in reputation.

We are still handling this at a level where in the future we could conceivably be summoned to conquer a city by the populace itself.

I'm really unconcerned about our reputation, no amount of besmirching can contest that we are literally THE DRAGON, and you don't fuck with THE DRAGON under any circumstances unless you're 100% sure you can slay it.

I just really don't think it makes much of a difference where we run things for a month at this point, but telling Garin that we're going to pull him away from his wife, or basically force him to bring her with him on a working vacation to a place that's not exactly designed for creature comforts?

And keep in mind Garin would absolutely want his wife to be comfortable.

I'm not worried about being fucked with, I'd rather not be Planetos USA, most guns and most hated.

I want people to want to be a part of the Empire.

Keep in mind DP, under my plan, I fully intend on us bringing some people to do all the "running stuff" portion of things. We're literally just showing the flag by being present whenever we're not out doing PC stuff.

  • [X] Stay here a a month and untangle it yourself
-[X] The party will run operations from Westhaven for the next month. Some capable administrators and guards will be placed in control of the town and get comfortable carrying out daily tasks, to which we expect them to continue these duties when we finally leave.
-[X] Call a meeting with all the who's whos and busybodies, the important people of Westhaven who haven't been killed off, and display our ability to come and go at any time via teleportation. Make no secret that those who attempt to sow discontent between the people living here and our subordinates will experience our displeasure without delay.
-[X] Ask Vee how long she thinks it would take for her to make Westhaven self-sufficient if she had assistance from the Lampad.
[X] Set one of your companions to rule it
-[X] Request that Garin take temporary governance of Westhaven for the next month or so, to get the place settled and functional. Selyse would be welcome to join him. We could also detach a dozen trained Minotaurs as additional muscle and Imbue him with a Sending spell in order to contact us if he needed emergency assistance.

Hey @DragonParadox, can we have Dany cast this a few times to help with the food problem? We could teleport a few farmers from Sorcerer's Deep if it turns out Westhaven doesn't have any, and Dany should have access to this spell since it isn't good-aligned.

Womb of the Earth
Level: Cleric 1
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 15 minutes
Range: Close (25 feet, +5 feet per every 2 levels)
Area: 15 foot radius, radius burst +10 per level
Duration: Instantaneous (D)
Saving Throw: No
Spell Resistance: No
This spell transforms a wilderness area of light vegetation, like a natural clearing or the site of a recent forest fire, into a patch of ground ready for cultivation that enables food plants to grow to harvest maturity in 24 hours. Plants and animals currently inhabiting the site are not harmed or destroyed; both simply move to the edges of the new field. The spell clears furrows in the ground and fertilizes in a manner best suited to the type of seed specified by the caster. Farmers must still tend to the garden as it grows, removing weeds and pests.
Residual magic lingers in the patch of ground. Within 24 hours after the plants are harvested, the surrounding plants and animals will retake the land. No sign remains that the ground was ever cultivated.
The spell cannot be cast on densely forested areas, nor on places cleared of trees by farmers or others acting on their behalf.

Holy shit, that spell is absurdly fantastic!
It's an absolute gamechanger when it comes to farming! A yield every 24 hours?
We need an enduring wand if this or something, with Lya's high caster level! And then we get a low-level witch or cloistered cleric to go around our lands and feed people with this.
We don't even need to use it to feed our whole kingdom - just having it on hand in case of famine would be great.
Or we could sell it to a place that has regular problems with growing crops! They'd probably pay a fortune for it.

*sigh*

Here is hoping that we don't get the next catastrophe to deal with next month. We seriously need some time for housekeeping and getting companion tasks done.

DP doesn't like game changing amounts of money and rightly so as Lannistering away our problems is boring and makes me feel gross.

Unfortunately that means we can't sell anything game changing without getting super ripped off.

I'd rather keep it to ourselves and retain the ability to starve out a belligerent force.

Edit: Or better yet make the announcement that we are willing to accept any of the populace that cannot be cared for, in RL this was never done for the starvation risk but with Womb of the Earth we don't care.

IRL and IG telling your enemies that you will take on and care for their populace with food and water in a siege is morale crushing.

Have Glyra sneak some food to the poor in our name and all of a sudden their internal problems just grew bigger than the Dragon on the doorstep.

I'm fine with being restricted to using it in times of necessity, like right now.

To be fair you could argue that an emerging market economy for magical solutions to a variety of problems has rendered things that would have ordinarily bankrupted a kingdom "affordable", which is to say rather than bankrupting a kingdom, it would merely bankrupt a moderately successful merchant.

I got the impression that Grey Worm's ring was a generic item for some reason. Should we ask them to do it next?

And all the hugs to @DragonParadox regarding identifying. Awesome narrative, soul crushing mechanic (time does weigh heavily on us though)

@DragonParadox, since my plan calls for a not quite outrageous sum, how about 12,000?

That seems about right for your stated intent, and far more than Dragonstone alone could accrue in the next few decades so Stannis can't pay his ransom.

And 12,000 is the money we spent on crafting this month... o_O

DP quite recently confirmed that magic items should still bankrupt a Kindgom when talking about Stannis' ransom.

The main question is how much time this would cost us. It always boils down to time.

@DragonParadox, can you give us a guesstimate?

5-10 days worth of work.

Hey @DragonParadox, can we have Dany cast this a few times to help with the food problem? We could teleport a few farmers from Sorcerer's Deep if it turns out Westhaven doesn't have any, and Dany should have access to this spell since it isn't good-aligned.

Where is that from?

Ask me for anything you like, except time. Ah, we really need those days, but we really should continue how we mean to go on. And Garin would never bring Selyse to a place as unstable as Westhaven.

[X] Crake

For the Womb of the Earth, the natural reason way to keep it from breaking the setting is to prevent it from being cast on the same area. If it take years for the cooldown, one can't spam it and it's best left for emergencies.

Inserted tally.
