I wouldn't describe studying Kislev and Laurelorn's networks as stretch goals. Thorek and Mathilde pointed out the problems in asking the members questions that the other members also aren't asked to share back when they discussed asking Thorgrim what the KAWN does. I don't think it would matter so much if the Dwarves never learned what the Ice Witches and Eonir do with their nexuses, but Laurelorn's network includes the Empire. It'd be really awkward not to ask them about it.In terms of stretch goals? Studying the Kislev, Laurelorn, and Nehekharan networks would be pretty interesting and could produce some useful insights. And taking a look at some Nexus sites could be good too; discovering that Reikland's status as a breadbasket depends on a deactivated Nexus is very good information to have.
"Either way, it would cause trouble if we were inconsistent in this. Even if we never examine the workings of Ulthuan, both Laurelorn and Kislev would be put out if we started asking questions of them that we did not ask of the Karaz Ankor."
Thorek nods, then frowns in thought. "The opposite would also hold - if the Dwarves were seen to share a glimpse of the most ancient of secrets, then it would be difficult for the Elves and Wyrzhufokri to argue that their own deserve greater consideration."
"It would," you agree.
Are you ever going to write the AU where a band of Stirlander villagers managed to get to a little girl with a toy horse before the old soldier did?
Yeah, I think we're at the point where we can and probably should politely ask Laurelorn to tell us what exactly they do with the energies gathered by the Middenheim, Salzenmund and Neues Emskrank nexuses, and whether those nexuses in particular have anything interesting going on (e.g. does the holy flame of Ulric have something to do with the nexus or are they unrelated).I wouldn't describe studying Kislev and Laurelorn's networks as stretch goals. What does this mean?
One thing we should start thinking about is what major project will WEBMAT have once the waystone project is done? It's supposed to be about cooperation between divine and arcane casters, and for now the waystone project really does handle that. But once that finishes webmat will need a new flagship project to justify its existance, and while we'll likely have the clout to get people involved after the waystone project completes, there isn't an obvious next project to work on. Doesn't need to be something as big, as unless we go research sabattical it will likely be a side job rather than a primary one. But I'm not seeing a lot of obvious ideas within the branch's mandate.
WEB-MAT has already proved through the Waystone Project the value of multiple doctrines of magic working together. Even in the absence of an immediate next multidisciplinary project it could justify its existence as waiting for another opportunity for multiple magical schools to work together to accomplish something great. It's only if there is an extended drought of interdisciplinary magical research that WEB-MAT could assist with that the value of maintaining its continued existence comes into question. One thing we should start thinking about is what major project will WEBMAT have once the waystone project is done?
