Thinking of what kind of abilities a flying ship made by the 8 college's aiming to show off.
Well, i started thinking of Eberron.
They have flying ships piloted by House Lyrandar who have inherited magical mark allowing control of weather.
Like, invisibility is nice and all.
But ability to summon clouds, possibly even thunderstorms (and fog banks for landing), and then dramatically fly out of the cloud/mist guns/fireballs/summoned lightning blazing, or just stay in it unseen, is pretty awesome as well.
The ability to pretend we're just an angry thunderstorm, and throw lightning bolts at our targets under the guise of "oops its just unlucky lightning, tee hee" sounds diabolical

I like this, but I would switch building a new Waystone model for rolling out a new waystone production line for Mordheim. Since our existing waystone model is very well-suited for Mordheim and Mordheim is ripe for purification (having been recently subdued and cleansed of nasties within the last two decades), it's guaranteed to be a very useful effort on our part, and doesn't leave anything to chance.
Personally I think it would be smartest to take the Mordheim Nexus investigate action before trying to set up Waystones nearby. We'd feel like a right lot of ninnies if we set up new Waystones that fed into a Nexus actively powering something dastardly.
By contrast, making a new waystone model has all sorts of points where issues could crop up, and we really wouldn't want to be rushed in dealing with those issues. It also raises all sorts of questions about what sort of new model we want to design, and what circumstances will encourage its use over our existing model. Currently, we're really lacking in a model that can work with the dwarven KAWN, and for that challenge we'd want to investigate as much as possible into the KAWN and ways to link into it. And, arguably, with our existing waystone model being so successful, we ought to give some focus towards waystone nexuses to see if we can potentially recreate them or even come up with a workaround that achieves similar results (in at least some circumstances).
I don't really see how any of those factors mean that a new Waystone design action is a bad idea? The only argument I can see is "well maybe we'll want to make a dwarf waystone at some point if we can figure out how to tie into their network," and I don't disagree, but that only is an argument against designing a new Waystone if you feel that there is a maximum number of times we should take the Build a Waystone action. If you think that more mass-producible Waystones or the barge model are a good idea, then they'll be a good idea regardless of when we get around to designing them, and I'd like to do so sooner rather than later.
As for alternatives to that--we could put a WEB-MAT action into creating a Windherded-enchanted set of robes. Or if we want more time to devote to that task, we could instead spend an action training up one of our skills, like our pistol marksmanship.
Let's see how the purchase turn knife-fight turns out before getting too into the robe design question (begun, the ithilmar wars have), but I will point out that we can't spend a WEB-MAT action on them unless we're committed to doing them with Egrimm, which locks us in to an Ulgu/Hysh combination, and I don't love the options there; Eyes of Truth, my favorite utility option, was ruled brainmeats-incompatible. We could just do Radiant Sentinel, I guess, or Blinding Light if we wanted to be ambitious, but neither of those excite me the way "win at spy v spy" did.

Pistol marksmaship seems like a huge waste to me. We almost never use them in combat and we're not close to a skillup, so it's not like we'd even get a point of Martial out of it.
...come to think of it, we haven't codified Knightbringer yet, have we? In-character, it'd be a massive waste if Mathilde died in Ulthuan and never passed on her hard-won discoveries and inventions on Apparition-binding for Ulgu-spellcasters.
Personally, I don't want to codify it until we use it in an actual for-real fight, not just stunting on some greenskins in the Badlands. It would feel weird to me to write up a spell without having used it for real in the field; I also would not have supported codifying Rite of Way based on the testing we did around K8P. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and the proof of the spell is in deployment in actual mission-critical conditions.

The scouting action just seems a good idea, gets us a little boost, gets eike bloodied, gets us to interact with second best dwarf king kazador.
It seems our one free action for an elfcation turn is more contentious. We could probably spend it on the ship if we want, or some other general improvement action.
(I'm still partial to finishing off the spell book)
I do think we did enough last turn for the waystone project to be fine taking a break and getting back to it next turn.

How about a double nexus and Elfcation plan?

3 actions Elfcation
1 action forest of shadows nexus
1 action Mordheim nexus

They are only investigate actions, so they shouldn't be too fraught with peril (yes, I know they are two of the most dangerous locations in the empire, but still).

That will then mean that when we come back from Elfcation we can put together a plan specifically to target whatever needs doing in these places—whether that's purging them or regular waystone building or make a new type of waystone or just leaving them the hell alone.

Not a fan, this is vacation time, all six months of it (in my mind at least) we literally did like 4 waystone actions last turn. We can do something else, just for mathy.

Wait, what? We use our pistols all the time. We used them in our big battle against the Kul, we used them throughout the entire K8P arc, we used them at Drakenhof 2: Electric Boogaloo, and we didn't use them at Skiroj Forest because we were busy dueling Drycha--and that was over in a few seconds of action.

We use our pistols in assassination, in raids, in open battle, in small scale fights for bloodying allies, and against big monsters. It's, what, twelve shots per revolver, and two revolvers? And both are runed to hit harder and propel their bullets faster, so they represent a lot of non-magical firepower that can be put out rapidly. If we aren't going to be learning more Battle Magic (or inventing more fog/mist-based Battle Magic), then training with our guns is a logical next step.

We could potentially make the Learn Scouting action a WEBMAT action if we also bring that employee on a Nexus Scouting action on the same turn, which would also satisfy the "must do at least one Waystone action" itch.

So like

[ ] Johann: Lovely Laurelorn with us (getting us Advanced Eonir Diplomacy for +1 Diplomacy and narrative elf-mindedness benefits)
[ ] Max: Learn Scouting with us (getting us Advanced Scouting for +1 Intrigue and narrative scouting benefits)
[ ] Max: Nexus: Mordheim (or wherever)
[ ] [ ] [ ] Elfcation

On a side note, we do need to talk about the name for our ship. Specifically figure out the pun.

But on this note, I'd like to say that asides from the possibly-default name of the Prismatic Wanderer, I have some thoughts on other possible names:
  • The Subtlety
  • The Come At Me If You Think You're Hard Enough

Oooh there is bunch of funny puns we could make if we want to, like say;

  • WHATEVER FLOATS YOUR BOAT *(my favorite)
  • PIECE OF SHIP *(bit literal)
  • NAUTI-BY-NATURE *(a bit too literal maybe)
  • LAUNDERED MONEY *(boo vow of poverty boo)
  • KNOT-A-YACHT *(or is it?)
  • COURTSHIP (waggles eyebows at Panaromia)
And finally Grey Collage favorite;
  • PARA DOCKS

I think doing that would require us to use that employee for scouting in the near future, but I'm not opposed to it. If we do train scouting with Johann and then explore the nexus with him I think it counts? And it would let us work on the ship before the mini-arc too, as that action was originally conceived of as a project for Web-Mat and Egrimm is an enchanter.

@Boney for the Eike self study action, would sending her and Adela to map a region (say, Tilea and Estalia) be a valid action? Or would that be too complicated/dangerous for an apprentice to handle whilst we're on the opposite side of the world? I'm not really sure what the upper end of Eike's competence and independence is at the moment.

I just figured, that since we're not going to be using the gyrocopter, and we're probably not being Eike to Ulthuan, she could help fill in the waystone map a little. But now that I think about it, Eike's windsight isn't anywhere near as good as ours, so she might not be able to get a complete picture of the network.

I've got to say I'm a big fan of 'Paradox' as the name, unironically. For something that is so incredibly in-your-face as a Massive (flying) Yacht, and with Mathilde's history of sticking hidden meanings in the names of things she's responsible for, calling it Paradox is both thematically solid and so blunt that anyone in the know will be tying themselves in knots trying to decipher a hidden meaning.

Well, I'm not thrilled about this giant enchanted warship. On the other hand, you know who will be thrilled about it? Our apprentice, warship-enthusiast and fledgling enchanter. Eike has some cool self-study actions in her future.

Ahahahah holy shit this did not occur to me at all and is very funny. Shit, I was fond of but leery of using the whole boon on Eike training, but thread inadvertently stumbled into something that really looks like Mathilde "I know boats float, and that's about it tbqh," Weber decided to make her apprentice the most spoiled ever.

An assignment entirely outside the Empire is one where you'd want a certain level of authority and being able to just murder your way out of a bad situation. An Apprentice just doesn't have the titular oomph to make some petty regional power think twice before fucking with her, and Eike doesn't have the killing capacity to manifest consequences herself.

Plan Shoot For The Moon Goddess
*COIN:Father
*Forest of Shadows
*Iron Orcs/Damsels
***Elfcation
*EIC: Ore deal involving Kalita-worshipping Kislevite traders
*KAU: some shit idc
Eike actions: EIC, Bretonnia trip
Eike self-study: Dwarfcation and/or Prismatic Wanderer construction
Critical support for father vacay maxxing

My argument for father over protector is simple. Father guarantees some small benefit and potentially offers massive lore closure. Protector's payoff for Mathilda playing super hero is entirely dependent on there being a damsel in distress for her to rescue (and for this victim's gratitude to be worth anything).

Personally as funny as puns are, I don't want to read a bad pun every time the ship comes up. The prismatic wanderer is still my actual preferred choice, just sounds good.

Stupid question but why did we never bring Adela onto WEBMATT? Most of the other wizards from Eight Peeks flew the coup and it makes sense that Panoramia is outside of that, but as somebody with actual local connections to Eight Peaks and who we're doing stuff all the time with anyways on account of the pilot thing that will no doubt bridge into the flying ship now it feels like a no brainer so I'm just wondering what I've forgotten

Every research member we have requires us to use them around 2 out of every 3 turns or they get annoyed. This is to disincentivize us from collecting them like backup Pokemon: we need to find work for them to do. And we just didn't have work we thought we needed Adela for in the quantities to bring her on as a full member.

Honestly, Prismatic Wanderer is a pretty solid name to begin with, I don't see something dethroning that anytime soon.

I do like the idea of naming it "Wisdom's Something", as a homage to how we got the boat. "Wisdom's Reward", maybe?
