Orc Quest; or, A Critical Examination of Agency Through in Interactive Fiction (Warcraft)

Like the army, I would leave that for next turn; right now I'd rather be appraised of apocalyptic movements in Orgrimmar + save the trolls from Galen Trollchuztpah + send Orcs to help Gilneas survive and get much-needed money + start training the dragon to have a fantastic mount and a quick getaway in case a catastrophe strikes

the roll for alterac has just made me feel we need more of a powerbase (like getting the raventusk and maybe if we are lucky the local troll tribe in the area) cause it looks like a mess is comming but thats to be expected with 3 different political bases around theirs the regent whos trying to hold power for the queen by helping the local nobility (aka the syndicate renements who surrendered), the scarlets base with inflamming the locals against non humans while the leader ship use them for their agenda and then us with the more foriegn elements and the army

Revantusk, that otherwise will be exterminated by Galen Trollslayah
There appears to be a large mountain range (apparently perfectly navigable by the Armani though) between the Hinterlands and Arathi, and Galen will be busy fortifying after the orcs left.

It would be the Vilebranch who'd be doing the exterminating, as per canon they view the Revantusk as betraying the greater Amani group, given they're both groups of forest trolls.

This is somewhat worse tbh as the Vilebranch are more dangerous than Galen because they actually know what they're doing, whereas Galen is a fool.

Mercenary contracts
I'm pretty open to people writing stuff as you should know by now, but I did also realise that it can be a lot of cognitive effort to do so, so instead here are some merc contracts. These are open to negotiation, which may or may not require a diplo roll. Different contracts have different value, and tbh I might offer you a few for free if you like as they should be interesting in moving the plot along. As you'll see from the rewards, some are valuable for particular reasons such as resources. I've forgotten to put Gilneas on there actually but that for example could be to get gunpowder tech. Some of these are time limited obviously. The world doesn't stand still, and Grok's assistance may turn the tide in some places.

Shaw's Mysterious Request
The enigmatic message from someone only identifying themselves as 'Shaw' beckons Grok'mash to assemble a swift and adaptable task force. The mission: to infiltrate and disrupt the Defias Brotherhood's operations, a criminal syndicate wreaking havoc in Stormwind. Shaw offers significant gold rewards and hints at secret knowledge as payment for this covert undertaking, promising a trail of clues that may lead to unraveling the mysteries of this clandestine organization.

Queen Prestor's Call for Aid
Queen Prestor of Stormwind extends a generous offer to Alterac, seeking a substantial military deployment to repel the invading Blackrock Orcs encroaching on the kingdom's borders. In exchange for the Constable's support, Queen Prestor guarantees essential supplies, including food provisions, financial backing, and diplomatic backing to reinforce Alterac's position within the Alliance.

Kul Tiras' Plea for Maritime Assistance
The nation of Kul Tiras reaches out to the Constable, beseeching aid against the relentless pirate threat plaguing their shores. Additionally, they offer to logistical support for the Constable's endeavours relating to the Orcs of Kalimdor.

Admiral Westwind's Proposition
Admiral Westwind presents an intriguing opportunity: the chance to lead an elite strike force on a perilous mission to cleanse the magical prison on Tol Barad of escaped demons. In return for this formidable task, Westwind offers invaluable connections, magical assistance, and the prospect of unraveling ancient arcane secrets that could tip the balance of power.

Dalaran's Magical Bounty
The Mages of Dalaran entice the Constable with a tempting bounty of rare and potent magical artifacts. Their request: specialized magical assistance to quell the growing threat posed by the prisoners of the Violet Hold, who are on the brink of becoming uncontrollable. In aiding Dalaran, the Constable can acquire potent artifacts to strengthen Alterac's arsenal.

High General Bridgette Abbendis' Crusade
High General Bridgette Abbendis beseeches Alterac to join the fight against the relentless Scourge in the Eastern Plaguelands. In return for the deployment of substantial forces, she offers critical material support, including weapons and supplies, to bolster Alterac's army.

King Mangi's Pact
King Mangi of the Bronzebeard Dwarves extends a hand in friendship, offering funding, resources, and invaluable connections. In exchange, the Constable is tasked with dismantling, capturing, or diminishing the threat posed by the Dragonmaw Clan, who threaten the Wetlands. Accepting this compact ensures Alterac's place as a staunch ally of the dwarven realm.

Warsong Clan's Call for Kinship
The Warsong Clan, seeking camaraderie, seeks the Burning Blade's assistance in their ongoing conflict against the Vilebranch trolls. Although they cannot provide direct resources, they offer a bond of kinship and the promise of future cooperation in times of need, forging a powerful bond between Alterac and the Warsong Clan.

Venture Company's Lucrative Offer
The shrewd Venture Company of Goblins presents an alluring proposition: financial backing, influential connections, and industrial assistance in exchange for a series of flexible military contracts. These contracts remain deliberately vague, allowing the Venture Co to choose missions that best serve their interests, from resource acquisition to strategic influence.

Oh and sure voting open

Actually yea have changed my mind. First merc action for each turn is free, let's shake some things up. You can take multiple merc actions per turn, so only the first one is free

Yippeeeeeee. I don't see a Gilneas option though. The Kul Tiras one though will do good for the homeland.

[X] Plan: Reinforce the Orcish Position.

[X] Mercenaries
Kul Tiras' Plea for Maritime Assistance
The nation of Kul Tiras reaches out to the Constable, beseeching aid against the relentless pirate threat plaguing their shores. Additionally, they offer to logistical support for the Constable's endeavours relating to the Orcs of Kalimdor.

[X] Rescue the Revantusk
... Hammerfell also supported a tribe of allied trolls, the Revantusk. They will likely be destroyed without your assistance, and you might journey to retrieve them, if they'd agree to join you

[X] Demongate
Jubei'thos' clan had formerly been guarding a Demongate, a lesser version of the Dark Portal, intended to aid in the summoning of lesser demons. The Traitor Prince, Arthas, had used the gate to received instructions from Burning Legion during their campaign on Azeroth. You've heard from Haomarush that the location of the Demongate is higher in the mountains, a place of great danger due to the rampant demons around the gate. While you don't intend to summon any demons, it might be well to use the gate to contact your father with greater reliability of communication perhaps.
[X] Integrate the New Clan
While you could just leave them to their own affairs as a loose sub-clan under your leadership, it might also be wise to strike now and integrate the New Clan into your faction of the Burning Blade.
[X] Warlocks Continued
The Warlocks have disappeared. You don't know where they might be, and if they've left the country they might still cause problems for the neighbouring powers. Send out the riders again to investigate these missing villages.

Roll for progress of non taken actions, 3 doesnt count as I didn't set it properly.

Black plotting, 89, exceptionally well. Fahrad expanding, Brood well set up, actions concealed from Nef
Warlocks, 6 utter failure for now, indeed a setback.
Stormwind situation, 47, no change. still various problems without immediate solutions
Gregor Stewardship, 15, situation degraded significantly given influx of orcs, some unrest Gregor is dealing with ehind the scenes that Grok doesn't know baout
Gilneas offensive against Worgen, 32, poorly.
Scourge in Plaguelands. 9 poorly, some advances but Dathrohan's new troops and weapons extremely effective.
Scourge vs Kul Trias, 90 really really well, widespread Vrykul attacks at sea, preparations for invasion
Warsong vs Vilebranch, 65, pushed them back somewhat now they don't hvae to guard their noncoms
Hows Feldad vs Thrall going back home? poorly, Thrall resurgant
Does Feldad send stuff to Grok? 31, no.
Defias expansion, 33, poorly, no open moves
Legion plotting, 38, nothing open

random event vectoring, north, east, hinterlands/plaguelands border. Actor, Scourge, trolls, Emerald, Scarlet. Emerald portal opens.
Ok so have the warlocks like fucked up? We really should look into them.

It looks like Kul Tiras is doing badly.

Otherwise establishing comms with Feldad is now higher on priority.

[X] Plan: mercs and growth
-[X] Mercenaries- gilneas
-[X] Mercenaries-King Mangi's Pact
-[X]Train the Drake
-[X] Evacuate Revantusk/Reinforce the Warsong
You will support both the Hammerfell Clan's allies as well as those of the Warsong Clan. As the Revantusk are evacuated, you will seek decisive battle with the Vilebranch before leaving a detachment under Vark's command to assist the Warsong for the next few months.
-[X]Integrate the New Clan

helping the dwarves helps us get a connection to them and friendship as well as interacting with the dragonmaw clan and maybe bringing them into the fold and we got elemental ore and the ashbringer and the dwarves were the ones to make the original. (not saying we can remake it right away but its good to start the blocks)

I'm worried about the warlocks but if you want to leave them alone that's fine. We have like so many times limited ones we're going to be leaving them alone and miss out.

Kul Tiras' Plea for Maritime Assistance
King Mangi's Pact
The first one has been on my wishlist for a loooong time. Indeed, having one merc action free is a massive change. Everything is still on fire, but at least now we don't have an army twiddling their thumbs because Grok is meditating on how to proselytize.

I think I'll take both for the turn. Every warchief contendant has a horde; none of them have a fleet behind their back. It has potential to strengthen the position of anyone who is inclined to view us favorably in Kalimdor.

I'd just write off the warlocks at this stage. We'll deal with them when the other shoe drops.

Rather than the Dragonmaw, it´s the Warsong that seem more interesting to me: Revantusk and Warsong are both threatened by/at war with the Vilebranch trolls.
Then again, a fleet at this point is a very interesting opportunity. So many options^^...
I would actually look for the warlocks next turn. We do not want a daemonic invasion on our doorstep

if the warsong need help we can see about next turn if its still available after all from their roll they are doing fine (says they pushed the vilebranch back) and for me the mission with the dwarves can build a connection to the dwarves (and a minor note the dragonmaw clan) and then maybe we might get contracted to help the gnomes and then get help from 2 of the most advanced races in wow

Counter point, we're not the only ones collecting orcs in the area.

and if rends got a problem with it he can show up
That's kinda the point. I think what w34v3r is saying, the orcs we don't get under our banner will get under another's, and Warsong are pretty desirable, what with them being a war-oriented clan (good for our mercenary prospects), Vark (formerly of Warsong) being firmly aligned with us, and their non-combatants secure behind our borders.

But those are exactly the reasons why they feel safe(ish) to postpone. For Rend, trying to absord people who are one step away from declaring for us would be... an uncertain investment. Still worth it if it succeeds, mind.

Who is currently leading Warsong? Does Vark have any claim to leadership and/or position of power, or do his duties as the chief of the Boulderfist clan take precedence?

face palm I thought w3 was talking about orcs in the dry land, why would rend want orcs allied to thralls horde the warsong are part of other hoarde. the orcs rend recrutied where sub clans of the blackrock the clan he is the cheif of and are more allied to his policy then thralls, the warsong on the other hand have their non combantants with us
also the current chief of the warsong is garrosh hellscream the son of the previous leader (granted the warsong don't know his alive atm) so I would just assume some high ranking member who will be kicked out once the son of grommash hellscream shows up

Asset denial?

Rend feels threatened by us, and the Warsong are a formidable army. If we help them, then should Grok and Rend come to blows, the Warsong will support us; that's what it says in the vote. Rend granting them aid keeps them indebted to him and, at worst, neutral. Plus, he can influence certain happenings and opinions in our ranks with the amount of Warsong non-combatants we have.

Unclear in canon till garrosh.

Not vark though no as he's been larping as an ogre recently and the warsong wouldn't accept joining an ogre clan
why would rend want orcs allied to thralls horde the warsong are part of other hoarde
the orcish political construct isn't this strong, both thrall and rend are legitimate warchiefs, and to the warsong of lordaeron, who in large part were the scouts and outriders of Doomhammer's army in the second war, there's space to debate who to follow. They're aligned with Thrall currently due to social ties to hammerfall and the Frostwolves, as well as their respect of thrall as doomhammer's succsessor.
