Don't know what to say, light resist/cloak artefacts? There's ways to get around it for a time, have pruposefully made holes on the consecrated ground to chill? Something to do with the Arcane? I will go with all of the above really.
Principality of Alterac. I kind of like the idea of being a prince over a king.
Scrap that. Alterac already has had a king and I don't want to delegitimise grok by making him take a lesser title. Valerian I'm like league of Alterac.

true but you never know what pesky adventure will show up (and remember shaw is still around as are the defious either one of those might do something if they find out)
As for saidan that all depends on how he is found out and if calia is alive or not

I'm putting my hopes on that only because I just find it really damn interesting for Grok to get an opportunity in or he'll do a Palpatine and start a Scarlet Empire.
With the queen yeah that makes it a bit more complex. With his army Grok would probably take the title of high commander or something but will Grok's forces be seen as apart of the state or his own personnel army. Never mind the lands that Grok now owns which would only further complicate things.

The demonic looking orc nodded in silence before staring back at a mysterious cave beckoning a visit from the one who bested him.
"Yes Blademaster, my warlocks sensed a mysterious power beneath a cave in the mountains that I personally searched and met a doddering old man who knew our ways and foretold your coming and my clan's greatness under your banner." muttered Haomarush before continuing on "It's why I challenged you. I needed to see if what he said was true and it was."
He smiled fiendishly before switching to a frown. "He is no ordinary hermit, tread carefully and ask your questions. You may well rather not know your own future fate."
You chose not to pry. It seems the mysterious oracle revealed information that would cause even a user of the fel with years of experience in battle to act grim and fatalistic. With a nod you set off by yourself while your warband rested in the Demonsword's village. Haomarush dutifully saluted with his blade on the scar he swore his blood oath on to guard the cave and wait for you.
While it would've been prudent to meet this hermit with more than just Haomarush but the information Haomarush slipped in after the banquet ensured the necessity of a more subtle and private meeting just as you had done with Varimathras.
It was time to delve into the caverns of this cave and meet this so called oracle who knew things even the wisest and most knowledgeable was unaware of.
************************************************************************************
The journey through the cavern proved uneventful except for a room with a collection of items, baubles, treasures and artifacts. Some you recognised: armor, weapons and heraldry representing the Alliance and the Horde including the more obscure ones especially Guldan's destroyed clan the Storm Reavers and pristine looking heraldry of the long gone human empire Arathor that used to rule many of the humans until they eventually split and became what they were now.
You still recognised some that were of elvish, dwarven or troll make but as you moved past them they became alien and undecipherable from objects of serpentine appearance to the insectoid and tentacles. Your paces increased henceforth at your last viewing of something discomforting and incomprehensible to your eyes despite having ventured into the depths of Naxxramas where you have already experienced the horrors of death to find the next room where you finally meet him the mysterious oracle.
"A Blademaster seeking wisdom? Your dances with death has taught you well Grok'mash Fireblade."
An old man in robes and a hood stirring a cauldron greeted him. Only the fires beneath the cauldron lit the room he was now in. You gazed at the old man cautiously as he continued to prattle on like a senile old man.
"Fire, Earth and Light. You gained them at a price. More will heed your call once you find them yourself but at what price?"
Was this the old man Haomarush was wary of? Then again Drek'Thar despite being so old was willing to violate all manner of customs at the cost of his son's life and his clan's home in the valley. You resolved to ask him your questions but as you would to a thal'kituun.
"To your intentions oracle." you cut to the chase. "No doubt you found it amusing to fool others like a wizened elder but I have already had my experience soured by the last one who tried to murder me and summoned a spirit of ice for his own failures."
The old man smirked and cackled before straightening up with a strength not seen in elderly people. You were able to see his face illuminated by the fire beneath the cauldron. A pale bald face with a strange symbol of two circles together on his forehead and white eyes met yours.
"You're learning Grok'mash." Gone was the voice of a feeble old man to be replaced by something more sinister and mysterious. "Your journey has just begun and before you ask I know why you want to ask me why I know about the lie you used to save your clan from a warchief seeking a scapegoat for his own failures."
He proceeded to throw reagents into the cauldron that emitted smoke of such vivid shapes, they transformed into images you could see almost as if you could experience it yourself. From those images came dragons of many colors that then focused on ones that were yellow-bronze.
"I'm just like Kalaran but not of his descent." murmured the oracle. "You meet many curious individuals and figures but what will you do when the mask is off I wonder?"
The images changed to your meetings with Danrothan, Lady Prestor and even your father. You wanted to ask more questions but resisted taking the bait and pressed on. "So you're a dragon like Kalaran. How does that explain why you know so much about me even others barring a few know?"
The dragon masquerading as an old man smiled and continued stirring. "Very persistent for an orc especially. Very well." The images changed to bronze dragons flying around a giant hourglass. "With my kind I have the powers of time and you interest me my aspiring Blademaster who seeks to revive dying traditions and fulfill your calling against the enemies of this world."
That explains much with your own knowledge of the black dragonflight's history with the horde. Their cousins would have power even you would not imagine. Now you resolve to ask why this dragon singled you out.
"And why is it you interest me so among others more powerful and influential than I right now an exile? You never gave your name either." You asked.
"I am Moebius. Others in my flight deem me skilled in our gifts that I am considered a time streamer to them. I have seen the beginning and end of Azeroth's story, however and the tale is crude and ill conceived ever since the world was formed before the Titans came. We must rewrite the ending of it, you and I."
"What ending?" You asked curiously. The smoky images formed into something dark and sinister to something nightmarish.
"Knowledge is Power my good Blademaster. Let me tell you then of the Hour of Twilight......"
I wasted too much time sleeping and playing No Man's Sky for the First Time. This legion omake thing's going to have to be a two parter.
Oh and haven't gotten around to names. Re names, these are pretty politically charged it's true. For the moment probably not necessary, but I would probably note that even if you call yourself something differnet, you're still a threat to Thrall and Rend.
It's not necessarily that it's not possible to have other international relations in the Orcish race other than either Horde or clan-based interactions, but at least it's more difficult. Thrall feels that his political project to keep the Orcish people on the new path is inherantly weakened and threatened by the existance of other orc polities, and that his personal legitimacy is threatened by the existance of other warchiefs.
Comparably, we've spoken about rend/neferian, they would potentially have similar legitimist concerns.
Around names specifically though, we've also got to remember that people in these sort of times didn't necessarily think of it like this. You sort of get this in disputes between the Holy Roman Empire and the Byzantines. Comparably, you might also see this in certain polities which are part of multpile states. This is what we call personenverbandsstaat, the idea that the medieval state doesn't exist in the same manner as it does now where you can clearly say 'you are part of X country'. The 'state' is 'personal', or it is embodied in a person. For example, Thrall, or Rend, or now Grok too.
The Orcs do not necessarily understand the state in the same form the Alliance, or indeed that we do. They have different definitions or philosophies for the state, they consider it to partly be a communal instituion, but it's also obviously incredibly bound up with their history and the establishment of the Horde as a war machine. For example, in theory, Grok could try and 'convert' other tribes to become part of teh BB, but that's probably not really a thing for larger tribes, and you'd have to do that over generations, not just a couple of years or something.
@rx915 I enjoyed that interlude. I also find it quite amusing that you've managed to get Grok's respect for history down, but also his impatience sometimes with people pontificating around him.
Liked the point about banners, it would indeed presumably be a Bronze who would be interested in such things.
On the broader point regarding oracles, time travel and so on, in theory I do indeed have to deal with this at some point, which I'm not massively looking forward to.
The problem here, for example is that Grok should by now be attracting the attention of the cosmic forces of the world. Before, he's just a random guy who's martially capable but doesn't have a lot of authority or influence in wider affairs. We see that various parties and factions like the Blacks or the Legion start to think about influencing him, some more directly than others. For example, Balnazzar is busy doing legion stuff getting ready to take down the Lich King, and then this Orc shows up. Balnazzar says 'huh, what a cheap investment that may prove really useful down the line' and takes you on, promotes you etc. Indeed, at least some Legion-associated people are under the impression you're on their side. Maybe not Balnazzar as I think he'd have a better idea, but for example for Varimathras, you delivered his special fel battery thing to move the Forsaken.
Comparably, the Old God faction is a bit slow on the uptake. Zaruk the Twilight guy decided to use you to mess with the elements a bit, that both succeeded and failed, but you've already brought the Hour of Twilight a little closer by weakening the limnal barrier which Deathwing is planning to shatter later in Cata. Onyxia similarly, while perhaps not directly working for the Old Gods, also sees you and says 'huh cool, should probably keep an eye on this one'.
In terms of people like the Bronzes, there's a problem here in that we don't know if ITL is the 'Sacred Timeline', or if WoW canon is. If WoW canon is the Sacred Timeline, you've already made a couple of major changes, for example the Argent Dawn and their pretty big influence as a decentralised 'anti evil' force has been destroyed or absorbed by Balnazzar's Crusade. That might not be a fatal change in the timestream, one that would require the Bronzes to get involved. Indeed, I struggle to actually understand under what circumstances the Bronzes seem to actually want to get involved. In theory it's just a matter of predestination, so they either do or don't need to take any action. That sort of breaks my whole theme for this work though. 'Everyone has agency apart from these people who are predestined by cosmic forces to do stuff', so I may just ignore it.

In short, it's the highest military official in the kingdom. You're responsible for the general upkeep of the armed forces and military infrastructure, the security of the kingdom, deployment of forces, potentially leading them in battle etc. Additionally there would be ancillary duties that Grok might have an interest in, for example in seizing civilian infrastructure for military purposes, conducting trade missions in return for military assistance, ensuring finances for the army, that sort of thing. This is a position of significant influence, especially if you've got someone like Prestor who won't be doing much and will be ruling through a regent. Grok is essentially the most powerful person in the kingdom, not least of which being because he controls the largest military force and led the battle which killed the last king.

The bouncer can be the strongest person in the bar; doesn't mean he knows how to run the establishment. Not to mention the nightmare that is handling a kingdom with an entirely different societal/racial structure and economy than what you are used to.
Will Bishop Karlus be involved in the government, and in what capacity?
Is there a land in Lordaeron we can claim to officially settle the orcs? I am wondering if we can't have our own polity eventually.
An interesting idea but politically possible if it's Danrothan at the helm doing the foederati routine especially when many of his possible opponents are dead in the raid on Naxxramas.
out of char we know both the horde and alliance are comprimised scarlet crusade is a legion tool, varian is the puppet of the black dragons just like rend, the dwarfs are alright but the gnomes lost their home, gilineas has a wolf problem (great idea genn release the werewolves that your mage said was a bad idea) and the blood elves who knows where they flip but keal is a legion pawn (cause drinking all that fel magic to cure your magical addicition clearly worked out so great for him also if illidan asks you to do anything for him and in return he will do something don't cause he most likely wont do it) and I would mention galen but mr I killed my own father is barely anything and for the horde, well varmitias, putress (so thats the current leadership of the forsken cause slivanas isn't their) and feldad are all legion pawns
well hopefull their is a time to kick balnazar out without him going all risen this timeline
