I have a feeling that being "that Grey Wizard what does all the I Can't Believe It's Not Daemonbinding" may be kinda a questionable look when we're in the middle of the Waystone Project, just admitted to getting a house call from a Lord of Change, and are already known for being concerning good at reverse-engineering Dark Magic. We may want to hold off on publishing this stuff for a bit.
The morbs and AV will keep us busy for a while anyway and if ROW is any indication, I will be literal years before we have a chance to codify this one in deference to AP hell.

This is probably hopeless at this stage of the vote, but still:
Knightbringer voters, I beg you, please vote for Nightbringer. It's the same pun, except that in Knightbringer you're literally spelling it out. You're not supposed to do that, in some states this sort of thing is considered grounds for revoking your punning license.

I beseech you, vote in favour of (very slight) subtlety. Vote for Nightbringer.

Specifically, let's approval vote, rather than splitting it. Nightbringer is still in third.

I wonder how many other staffs like Mathilde's exist, who has them, and which flavors of magic they reduce a tier in difficulty.

Getting something similar for a bright battlemage would be cataclysmic.
I recall the quest mentioning somewhere that Brights are fond of staffs that improve specific spells.

Given how most of the Bright College spellbook is about Aqshy used elementally, I imagine it'd be very hard to intentionally make a staff that could apply to all fire spells.

I imagine you'd be more likely to get a staff that applies to all AoE Aqshy spells, or all Aqshy single-target direct-damage spells, or all Aqshy morale-improving spells, maybe? And even most of those would be impressive and widely applicable - the Staff of Mistery was made with a pretty good roll, after all.

Though Aqshy doesn't have any such spells that we know of, I imagine something along the lines of a staff that makes steam-based spells easier to cast would be the closest thing - you'd need to make your own steam spells but it'd be entirely doable, and probably useful to someone like Adela.

Alternatively, we go all in and publish the text of the millennium:

Liber Mortis 2nd edition, by L.M. Mathilde Weber, Baron Frederick van Hal of Sylvania, and Prince Vladimir of Khemri

It's not though, since Boney's stated that if Knightbringer wins he'll name the spell Knightbringer and the critter Nightbringer

So you'll bring forth knight known as the Nightbringer (whose form resembles the knight that guards Sylvania's blighted nights by smiting wights) with the Knightbringer so that the Nightbringer knight may be called forth to alleviate your plight by joining the fight to put your benighted foes in flight, in which it delights

But you don't start with that as the official name! You call the spell Nightbringer, so that someone can joke about it bringing knights, with it being a joke rather than an obvious explanation of the name. Give the punners room to breathe!

Look, all I want to do is sufficiently confuse Algard so that he doesn't know whether to groan at the terrible pun or be horrified at the Faux Demonbinding.

If that means we have to lower our standards and create a pun that leads horses to water, then I'm fine with it. He can't be angry at us for a crime against nature if he's angered by a crime against language first.

Algard's most leaned on Trait:

Multiwrathing: You are in tune with Ulgu, and adept at simultaneously maintaining your ire with multiple distinct efforts by the universe and usually more specifically your subordinates to be the turd in your punch bowl.

I wonder how the Shadow Warriors will react when we summon our rider. Freaked out? Impressed? Impassive? Jealous?
The principles of apparition binding we used are ones the elfs use, and I don't think it required any chiselfingering to convert it to Ulgu or a different apparition, so at the very least it won't be a dog writing differential equations on a blackboard moment.

Are we actually *known* for being good at understanding Dhar? I know Mathilde made the Matrix after being inspired by a Dark spell, but I can't remember anything else that she hasn't kept well under wraps

She had a worrying amount of insight into Skaven magic.

Boney says as much here:
Mathilde likes her creature comforts, keeps just so happening to stumble over big piles of money that can fund those creature comforts, has a worrying ability to grasp forbidden magics, might have been banging a Van Hal, and is probably more fond of Dwarves than she is of humans.

The Matrix, Papers on several Necrarch spells, countering skaven magic, deep understanding of the Waaagh... Its not exactly obvious but if you're paying attention to what shes done its mildly concerning. Not especially more concerning than the other Grey LM tho

I mean, Gehenna said she thinks the original Gehenna was an elf, that's not confirmation per se. We've gone over this before, but the described process of putting the apparition next to our soul and the whole thing wrapped in our Wind sounds... well, it sounds like an elf might need to reject all other Winds to do, which would be rather unlike them.

Unless, of course, they have their own soul-binding method that's safe for them and still lets them use the other seven wind, and which only needed to be adapted for the Golds (possibly via Teclis).

IMO it's a toss-up.

The ratling gun isn't magic, it's 'just' warpstone-based machinery. And she only confirmed the existence of the Eshin mixture of Ulgu and Dhar, not how to counter it.

And to add to the list, we of course have the Windfall paper to look forward to this turn.

(...Incidentally, does Waaagh magic count as 'forbidden magic', if we couldn't even theoretically use it?)
