there is also the poetic one I made from your idea. and I had two riddles written that might be worth listing at the very least even if they aren't amazing. unless there is some good reason not to of course

I can't list everything. Well, theoretically I could, but that gets unwieldy real quick. I was never satisfied with my version of that one and yours is too long for a riddle contest, I think...it's good poetry but we need something shorter, I think.

WARDED FROM QM SIGHT

So, my short list of riddles I spotted I really liked is:

#1 (by Toboe)
I devoured the hand of justice
I am chained by zero links
Silent revenge will be my end
Who am I?

#2(by Shard)
It can be anything or everything
We all know it's name and nature
Anyone can evoke it with words
Yet us here disdain what it is
What is it?

#3 (by DeadmanwalkingXI)
I can take all a man has, or grant him all he desires
I can end feuds or start them, make paupers of the rich or a rich man of a pauper
Yet men are my hands and my will, and my word is doneonly by them
Few want to have me yet all fear to lose me once theydo
Who am I?

#4 (by Skippy)
I grow a fluffy beard but have no mouth,
No shield but stand in a phalanx with my kin,
Guarding the road of roads,
I am so weak a child can slay me,
Yet I can lift men andheavy stones,
Who am I?

#5(by Skippy)
Beginning as a foundling in the muck,
Trained in the school of hard knocks,
Plying my trade diving into the salt sea,
I can earn my weight in gold,
Yet few men wish to receive me as a gift,
Who am I?

#1:Fenrir
#2: A Lie
#3:A lawsuit
#4:A reed
#5:A sword

I'll potentially add others if people advocate them, but these seemed like the best options.

I am very partial to 4, it's really quite clever. 1 seems rather easy (but might be good for a first round, as was mentioned). 2 is too vague and general, as in it doesn't seem as if it credibly only has one answer. 3 and 5 are fine too.

My 2c of public advice: the riddle should be clear in retrospect , so that Heklr won't call us a cheater or come up with a wild guess that also fits.

Err on the side of making it obvious. Riddles are much harder than they look when having to solve them, as opposed to knowing the answer and checking if it fits. If it's too vague, Heklr gets angry. If it's too obvious, Heklr guesses correctly and we have another round. Kennings are fine, but the kenning should definitely describe the object.

I do agree that 4 is really, really clever, and 3 is very fun however

well understand, though I think a longer list might be a good idea. even if not everything- people are gonna refer to your post for choosing a riddle and its a bit unfair to limit their choice like this to only 5. not choosing mine is fair, but of all the riddles suggested giving more then 5 is due I think

This is very sound advice.

I did number them so we could do a quick actual vote for which to use just voting by number.

And so on.

Fair enough. #2 probably is the least clear.

Fair enough. Gathering them together is a project, though. I'll go back through and add more, but the timing may be such that it only happens after this first one.

Let's vote by number and as soon as vote closes whoever is online can post the text, that's probably the best way to vote without giving away any info on riddles for future rounds

Just a lurker dropping by with a riddle I came up with on the fly...

If you share me with strangers, I grow.
I can make a fool out of you,
and a fool uses me.
Let a stranger introduce you to a sibling mine,
and they will show you a new world.
