I mean, its not like he can do anything to Steinarr anyway. He is Steinarr.
Yeah, but this dude has Odr. Now, so did we and Steinarr still beat us badly, but that's not all. This fellow is apparently skilled enough at using it that the local King decided to bet quite a few whetstones on the longshot chance that a prophecy came true instead of handing it himself. I'm not willing to bet that Steinarr is out of his weight class.

Er, I guess since it's tied I'll extend it another 10 minutes

  • [X] Tell him
-[X] If he swears to start by asking what happened, not go right to violence, and to leave noncombatants out of it as best he can.
-[X] Theorize that maybe whoever bet his mother (which is not okay) lied to the rest of the family. Anyone who'd do something like that is despicable, after all.

-[X] Of course, if it turns out that everything was totally true, well, seriously! That is not okay!

This feels like it's the right attitude to take, and also might reduce the collateral damage a bit.

The theory is a pretty bad idea, i think because it would mean the skane extended family (The one that Steinarr fled with after Hallr was killed) would tolerate anyone who sold off one of theirs.
And, i doubt any of them would do that or wouldn't kill the one who bet Hal's mother on a duel.

If the family, after all that happened give up on someone easily, Steinarr wouldn't have hunted horry down over half the world...

The theory is that they wouldn't tolerate that at all. That they were lied to and are unaware they have such a person around them. The theory is literally that they are the kind of people you say they are, but someone tricked them.

The other option is that they did tolerate such a person.

The other option is that they did put up with it.
and how would they not know that, when the bet was with a duel? Do you think the family wouldn't hear about that?
Or that it wouldn't be strange the girl is gone but the man is alive still? and that they wouldn't go after Hake?

KISS.

Could've been done somewhere foreign. Another possibility is that he did in fact die and thus they never heard about it because of that. Lots of possibilities.

Let's just tell the truth and get the oath for him not to pull anything to extreme. Making theories would possibly piss him off. Dude deserves to know the truth even if things will get bloody.

that makes the whole theory not only unneeded but actually a threat to the skane extended family, you realize?

How? Them being lied to and the guy never having told them (due to being dead) are identical from the perspective of whether they deserve to be punished. It makes the theory wrong, but that doesn't mean it's a threat. The point was never to convince him of a specific theory, it was to get him thinking in terms of them not knowing. Which seems likely one way or the other.

Now, it lost and that's fine, but I'm just confused by your logic here.

How is it a threat? If anything it reduces the threat by suggesting that they were lied to and didn't ignore the plight of their kinswoman. And if the theory is wrong and they did know what actually happened, then frankly, they deserve whatever they get for doing nothing.

So, once we tell him what we know, anyone else interested in sparring with this fellow. It's not every day we get a chance to fight a fellow True Norse Cultivator after all. We may be able to learn a few tricks.
