Speaking about The Enemy and Odr are both extremely dangerous topics. How sure are we that Ymir The Enemy can't listen in in Ginnungagap? After all, he's dead. And Ginnunagagap is where the dead reside.

Wait when was Ymir the "Enemy"? Also he was born there but he is the stuff of the Realms he would not be in the absence of the Realms.

Oh yeah, I meant to ask, what (if anything) do we know about The Enemy? Did we find out that it's Ymir?

I'm wondering if The Enemy also has something to do with steel apparently being "cursed"; it would seem to fit with an M.O. of wanting to deny advancement/power to humanity.

Flekkr is doing good boy things like digging holes and then filling said holes. He has found the swishiest of sticks and has, in fact, gotten stuck while trying to get it through the doorway.

He has puppies, yes.

(I struggle with including him, unfortunately, so he doesn't show up as often as he should. I'll do something with his puppies and your children, though. Actually... Idea has been acquired)

Hooray!

What sort of dog is he in appearance, by the way? Like the sorta medium-sized Scandavian breeds like the Buhund and Valhund you see that look a bit wolfy, and are good for herding/hunting, or something a bit bigger and more mastiff/wolfhound like?

The discussion on whether the Enemy can hear us made me wonder something that I'd like to wildly speculate on.

Maybe that's why Odin talks the way he does. Maybe it partially obfuscates what you're saying.

After all, Odin could swear(to Thor or her or the Norns or whoever) that he didn't tell us she was Thor's daughter.

We poked Blackhand with a bunch of questions about The Enemy, and they can be summed as:

1) Blackhand knows The Enemy, but doesn't dare speak it's name because names have power and speaking it aloud might let The Enemy look into our mind, which it normally cannot do.
2) The Enemy was in fact literally and metaphorically dead.
3) The Enemy is part of the Norse Sagas/Mythology.
4) The Enemy's death was an act of Kinstrife.
5) The Enemy is 'The Earth, Sky and Sea'.

2 and 3 already limited who it could be by a lot, 4 narrowed it down even further, 5 pretty much locked it to being Ymir, as that's the only entity who actually fits all the answers.

(Dead, killed by his descendants, is part of Norse mythology, and whose bodyparts were used to make the world.)

A defensive trait that has likely become ingrained at this point.

Though Odin was unusually direct in his latest advise to us.
You blink, brows rising high. "Right... Well, you said something about hearing me having troubles... or something?" You almost stumble over your words, but the old man doesn't seem to mind.
Halla seems to have some difficulty when talking to her great^bajillion times grandfather.

Yeah, I mean, spending a Calm Charge should have been a thing, but if it's not going to hurt us and it's just providing some Comedy, then let's stick to it.

Unrelated note, did we end up prepping enough that basically getting here was a non-issue?

Huh, that's good to know, cheers! Since this quest's setting appears to do Multi-Track-Drifting with mythologies and cultivation systems, it's natural to look for parallels. Christianity is a bit of a bust unless we're going heavily gnostic, but...

Another figure we could potentially tie this into would be the Greek Titan Cronus, who was overthrown (2) by his son Zeus to create the current divine order. (4) In some versions of the myths, ruled over earth, sea and sky. (5) This is why Zeus's nurse, the nymph Adamanthea, had to hide the infant god by hanging him on a rope from a tree, so that he was not touching any of these realms, and thus Cronus could not find him. Eventually Zeus grew into his full power and was able to free his siblings and lead them to defeat Cronus and the other titans in the Titanomachy.

Hmmm, I wonder if we know any other divine patriarchs who rose to lead their generation of gods, and gained power by hanging from a tree?

Well, those Training Dice were amazing. I, for one, couldn't be happier in that regard.

[X] "Um wow hello you're pr- I mean um. Hail cousin! I've come to retrieve my bodily-dead friend from the Abyss! His fylgja died so he's probably having a bad time right now."
-[X] If the opportunity arises, also ask if the Enemy can notice us here or if we're safe to tell Aki about Odr.

As entertaining as this is asking the second part probably counts as talking about the Enemy and thus attracts the Enemy's attention. Which would be bad if this is not in fact a safe place to do that. I am not inclined to take that particular risk.

Unrelated note, did we end up prepping enough that basically getting here was a non-issue?

I mean, we still need to actually sail down the river and go fishing, we just need to get permission first.

Just a heads up, your left bracket is a { so the tallybot isn't seeing it.

Oops! Fixed it!

Also, lol at how Halla went from "What is bote" to "SPLIT YOUR LUNGS WITH BLOOD AND THUNDER" over the course of two days. Urgency creates heroic deeds!

Honestly I'm prepared to take a gamble on the Enemy not being able to hear us here on the bridge, or not being able to intervene as dangerously if it can.

Standing on a bridge in the underworld we're not touching Earth, Sea, or Sky, so metaphysically we're kind of out of reach, and honestly we need to take the occasional gamble here if we're going to know more. If the Enemy's response to us talking about it is "send some goons to kill them", as I think we found out in a previous update, we're also currently standing next to someone who does not like intruders on her bridge and can definitely fight them off.

-[] Spend a Calm charge.

(I have no idea what this does mechanically, but people have said it's a good idea, so I thought I'd add it into my vote.)
(EDIT: Never mind, didn't realise this would need to have applied to the last vote, not this one.)

Those counter Composure failures so it would've needed to be done retroactively. Not really that necessary when all the failure did was make Halla a blushing mess.

Also fixed.

Yeah, that went fast. On the other hand, burning a lot of Reward Dice will do that.

It negates failures on a single Composure roll. So probably a bit late in this case.

Ok good to know. Then perhaps gaining Eitr is a bad thing. It is what he was made of.
Also does anyone know what happened to the cow Audumla?
Also love that Buri was made from Salt (which means that Halla is a very salty person lol).

He's a dog on the smaller end of the spectrum, not a lapdog, but not quite a big working pupper either. He's the kind of dog that needs a red kerchief hanging around his neck. Floppy ears, blue-gray fur with black flecks, and a big spot over an eye.

More or less

Ha, that reminds me of the idea I had for a frickin' Captain Ahab Isekai

Asgeirr is going to just end up covered in doggos, isn't he?

I don't think we should question her on that, or at least not that openly.

Probably best to just limit it to "While I'm here, just a question, is it safe to talk about--certain things here, or should I still treat this place like saying the wrong things will cause trouble?"
