We need three success to push a skill to rough, so either a day delay or some reward dice thrown in, pretty sure tactics can be skipped this turn.

Three successes to get a Gale Trick to Rough is pretty much not gonna happen without Reward dice and we have oars as well as sails, and we don't know how frequent our Orthstirr recovery is gonna be, and normal dice might well fail to get it even with Reward Dice added...I'm not sure trying for the Trick is worth it at this stage unless someone wants to spend, like, 3 Reward Dice on it (in which case, by all means go for it, obviously).

Anyway, will we have to deal with Hel and Garm, too? From what I understand, instead of Helheim being an entire Realm, in this universe it's a territory in Ginnungagap. Specifically, Hel made it where the people who Bodily Die reside. So will we need to barter with her to take Aki back, or...?

That or a day delay, but yeah that is not super necessary, would be useful for when we start our trade/explorer/raid journey with our big ship though.

Edit: ECW and whatever this skill would be called are those that would be super bonker at perfected with no orth charge, thought given how fast a norse can recover his Orth and how large his supply his, even mastered grade skill could last for a very long time.

What guard Jotun? When Torsten mentioned the Jotun, he meant in general - not that there was a Jotun guarding the entrance to Ginnungagap.

By the way, what are we gonna call our faering?
Bold of you to assume the Jotun would just let us pass after they see us. Not a lot of people wander there so they will most likely want to chat a bit... and its rude to be a guest, even unwilling, without a gift.... though a story isn't a bad choice, but something material is probably more appreciated, what with the dark not letting normal plants grow....

And i did said "just in case", for the Jotun. One for Modgurd on the other hand is a mandatory, because she sounds like a no nonsense guard, and i want to minimize the dice fucking us over.

We shouldn't, I don't think. Normally people don't have to come here in person to bring back the bodily dead and she seems chill with people being brought back that way, so I see no reason she'd object as long as we're polite and don't fuck around other than bringing Aki out.

Definitely. It goes on the Utility Trick list along with 'conjure clean water' from Clearwater and at least one cooking Trick from Campfire.

I mean, we have a silver armband and can bring stuff like food (and should), but I don't think we need to buy anything we don't already own to gift her with.

Uh, yeah, but Torsten never said there was a Jotun there to begin with? I dunno why a Jotun would be chilling in Ginnungagap for no reason, especially with stuff like Abysslings chilling there. Him talking about the Jotun was just him forgetting the question and focusing on reminiscing on eitr and how Jotun use it to trick people, since we happened to remind him of it. Since eitr is in Ginnungagap and all that.

Hopefully we don't draw her attention at all. Although I doubt we'll be that lucky, considering with have (a miniscule amount) of the blood of Gods running in our veins, on top of Blackhand inside our head. We should probably get gifts for her, tbh. If only to appease her.

That is good, yes, just didn't thought we are bringing THAT much food with us with our Fyjgla.
On that note, do we bring anyone else with us?

Yeah, i am not gonna bet on that it was just random thing he remembered. and if the Jotun drink the super poison, they have reason to hang out in Ginnungagap, to easily catch abysslings to ferment.

I would assume deciding things like this is what next post is for, along with how we assign our Shapeshifting, and similar things. Like, what provisions and people we bring is worthy of its own vote, I suspect.

Imperial explicitly stated that Jotun don't drink the poison. They only use it to kill off unwanted guests. I honestly don't think they'd want to be in Ginnungagap anymore than we do - there's nothing that says that they can take care of Abysslings easily. Although the Elivagar are said to produce eitr, so there is a chance the Jotun do harvest it from the rivers. Despite the fact the Elivagar are all pretty damn dangerous - besides the Leiptr, really, but we're not taking that - so I don't really expect that either.

I'd rather we get gifts for Hel. Y'know, the Goddess whose Kingdom we're planning to enter?

Is there any good reason we shouldn't continue to practice boating?

Because dying in Ginnungagap due to a boating accident due to total inexperience with boats would be pretty high on the short list of "dumbest ways to die as a Norse saga hero."

Thanks for giving help once more, Grandpa Odin.

Grumble. Man, Blackhand wasn't lying when he said his help always comes in the form of cryptic shit. Grumble.
That was pretty non-cryptic, I think.

Modgudr's practically invincible, she guards Helheim, don't try to cross anywhere except the bridge because she will kill you. Straightforward enough.

I mean, she's a Goddess...what gift we can buy and transport do you think would have worth to her? I'm skeptical there are any. If we need to offer her things, we're probably best offering sacrifices at the next opportunity we have to make them. That gives her an incentive to let us go to make them, and I highly doubt Hel of all people is worried about someone welching.

Is there any good reason we shouldn't continue to practice boating?

If one more person assigns one more Reward Die to it, we hit level 4 automatically with no risk. We have no real way to avoid risks otherwise and don't need more than that. I'm hopeful someone will step up.

Eh, fair enough. I don't think the information was much use though, since I doubt we were planning to fight her to begin with, and I'm pretty sure we were going to cross the bridge to get through? Cool lore though. And we got to meet Odin again, so there's that. I think that's his 4th or 5th time we've met him.

We also found our she's apparently Thor's daughter, which makes her family. That might help.

Hey Blackhand, do you know what the conditions are for Modgudr to allow the bodily dead to be taken back to life?

Seriously sounds like someone we don't want to mess with.
"I hear you're having troubles," a voice, familiar yet not at the same time, slips into your ear. Footsteps trail behind you as the voice's owner takes a seat at your side.

As you look upon the stranger, you're hit with the strangest sense of, as Blackhand says, deja vu.
Ooooh, old anmesia forgotten friend of Blackhand?
The man's face is hidden by shadows cast by his hat's broad brim.
Uh... Odin?
His body is covered by a thick, dark red cloak, leaving the only identifying feature as the pair of raven's feathers braided into his long, gray beard.
Yeah, old duded randomly showing up to give advice? Probably one eye.
Raven themes? Another clue for it being Hrafnagud.
The light flickers and the shadows are banished. For but a moment, a solitary eye the color of steel glimmers with wizened mischief, before the shadows surge and the eye is gone.
Oh look. A single eye. Pointed out to be color of steel, like ours. Could it be Hoárr?

"I did, yes." He clears his throat with a cough and a nod. "As I was saying, I, Hotter, heard your pleas and have decided to grant you access to my gathered knowledge."
Hǫtter you say...
"In a place far from here, there flows a river crossed by a bridge and its guardian. But while that is the state of today, it was not yesterday's. The birth of she who guards the bridge, the furious battler, Modgudr, is one not often spoken of. Her siblings are the sons of he who thunders and her strength and sense of battle are said to be comparable to her father's. No number of foes could overwhelm her and her skin has the strength of the very earth beneath our feet.
So, go there, don't try to cross anywhere but the bridge and hope she allows us to take aki back.

Just watched a bunch of Norse/Scandanavian OSP stuff.

'Well, they're not truly dead so I would assume that there'd be no quarrel from her, but then again I could very well be wrong.'

If Modgudr says "no," then I for one vote that we take the L. This is a good faith effort, and arguably rather more than a good faith effort, as is.

I think we need to convince Modgudr of two things
1) That we mean no challenge to Hel and are merely retrieving someone who isn't actually dead yet
2) That we can protect Aki's soul from the abysslings on the way back
