Hm...

I'm not against us talking to our mother, but I wouldn't bet on our relationship improving any time soon, if ever.

Our relationship is already pretty rocky, and I don't see it getting any better when she finds out we've been training and killing people and doing all these 'unwomanly' things.

Hopefully I'm just being pessimistic, and we can repair our relationship with her and Asva, but I'm not going to keep my hopes up.

More space you can fit orthstirr into, to give you additional combat dice.

...I realize now that I didn't actually mark that down as an option on the little blurb at the end of every combat round. My bad, there.

So... with our current rank, we can put in a maximum of 3 orthstirr to raise our combat pool by 3d6? But if we raised, we could put in 4 orthstirr to add 4d6?

Also, does a shield also take damage whenever you win a defense roll against an enemy? Just that I'm assuming if you win the roll, it takes a maximum of 1 damage, but if you lose the roll it ends up taking all the damage you would have taken?

[X] Use 'Plan Say Hi To Mom'

Using this leaves a lot of orthstirr free given our recent increase, but that seems fine. It handles the basics well enough, IMO, and free orthstirr isn't a bad thing...

Off-topic but is there any particular dog breed that Flekkr looks like?

Correct

Flavor wise, succeeding in a defense roll means that you, for example, catch the weapon on the boss, or deflect it, or simply dodge out of the way.

Mechanics wise, succeeding in a defense roll means that the shield doesn't take damage.

No, but I would imagine he looks like a Norwegian Buhund

Who/what the fuck just possessed us?

That is the question, isn't it? I'm very curious myself.

Given the attitude and abilities displayed a valkyrie is perhaps most plausible...Odin isn't crazy talk, but he'd be the only male deity likely to be involved (since whoever it was used seidr through us, and he's the only male deity I know of who uses it). Our fylgja is also possible since we have literally no idea how those work.

Doesn't have to be an æsir either.
Could be a Vanir.
Could be a Giant.
Giants use magic more freely than any god, iirc

Admittedly, I don't know much about Norse mythology, but it could be Freya? Though a valkyrie seems much more plausible than Freya herself.

Freya is probably the most plausible deity, yes, but her areas are, I think, less relevant to this specific fight than they might be.

Eh, from what I understand, Freya's a Goddess of battle/war. Seems pretty relevant to me. Could be wrong though - not sure on the specifics of what domains Freya rules over.

Hel(l), we don't event know if the Norse gods are an actual thing.

Gonna throw a wild guess out there, but if they do exist, maybe they're just humans who got a bunch of orthstirr and ascended?

I'd agree with the sentiment that it is one of:
  • Odin (God of war and uses seidr)
  • Freya (Goddess of war)
  • a Valkiry
  • maybe our fylga, we don't know how those works
For odin, besides being probably the most famous god:

In wider Germanic mythology and paganism, the god was also known in Old English as Wōden, in Old Saxon as Uuôden, in Old Dutch as Wuodan, in Old Frisian as Wêda, and in Old High German as Wuotan, all ultimately stemming from the Proto-Germanic theonym *Wōðanaz, meaning 'lord of frenzy', or 'leader of the possessed'.

Internal and comparative evidence all point to the ideas of a divine possession or inspiration, and an ecstatic divination.[9][10] In his Gesta Hammaburgensis ecclesiae pontificum (1075–1080 AD), Adam of Bremen explicitly associates Wotan with the Latin term furor, which can be translated as 'rage', 'fury', 'madness', or 'frenzy' (Wotan id est furor : "Odin, that is, furor").[11] As of 2011, an attestation of Proto-Norse Woðinz, on the Strängnäs stone, has been accepted as probably authentic, but the name may be used as a related adjective instead meaning "with a gift for (divine) possession" (ON: øðinn).[12]

Divine possession sounds really fitting.
Especially considering that the candidate is a god of war famous for using seidr and just chopped someone to pieces and used seidr.

Btw, everybody: we have more Orthstirr available now, so you could update the mom plan to use them.
I think the update gave us more important things to do, though

I did actually note that. Adding one more to Hugr is fairly reasonable, but honestly having more to spare isn't a terrible idea either, and we can add them on the fly in some circumstances. In particular, having enough free to do one or two things and stabilize people is not a terrible plan, and this at least starts out with that if we stoke everything.

I also feel like changing the plan after people already voted on it gets weird, even in circumstances like this where we have more points, given that leaving them free floating is defensible.
