The slayer oath probably includes some harsher variant of poverty.
If I remember correctly, Gotrek and Felix had a running joke about them being big heroes and absolute nobodies at the same time or something. They would get roped up in some big adventure, clear up the issue and save the day, they wouldn't be recognised by the public for their deeds (even if Felix actively publishes them, the running joke is that no one believes his stories. He's seen as some random nobody poet from Reikland), and to add salt to the wound, they would end up destroying whatever tavern they end up in, either running away or paying for damages, and what remaining money they have is spent on alcohol for Gotrek. So the net result is that despite everything they get no money, but they have just enough to live on it and Felix has enough to maintain his writing supplies.

It's almost like a curse in that way.

What makes it even funnier is that Felix has an enchanted sword that's so valuable he could probably just sell it and be set for life.

They tried to stop the Canal. Possibly up to attempting direct sabotage, but that's just theory at the moment.

One of the Minor Houses had both the means and the motive for it, but we can't prove they actually did it without actually breaking into their rooms and rifling through their paperwork, and even then it's a big question mark if they were even dumb enough to attempt it.

I'm pretty sure he got that sword from his adventure with Gotrek in K8P and he was allowed to take it as a gift from Belegar, so I can understand not wanting to give it up. It did something like give him an innate knowledge of how to fight? Or he took fencing lessons, I can't remember which. It definitely had Dragonslaying abilities and I remember something about it changing and transforming his physiology. Likely because the author wanted him to keep up with Gotrek and the running gag of him being so much weaker was limiting narrative options and stretching SoD on how he would survive without some supernatural protection.

If I remember correctly it kept him looking young and hale throughout the novels, which I think take place over years.

One thing that we can be absolutely certain on is that they threatened to block the Empire from outside trade if they didn't get the Dwarfs to stop construction. That's still trying to stop it.

He had fencing lessons growing up, and was in the fencing club at Atldorf Uni, but yeah, I remember something about the sword affecting his physiology in some way. Magic items tend to do that, feed back into the user in some way.

I got a bit confused and was specifically thinking of the Skull River ambush, rather than the blockade in general.

Yeah I just checked and his backstory involves him accidentally killing someone in a duel over a protest or something like that. Then something something almost gets trampled to death by Reiksguard something something drunk Gotrek saves him, kills a bunch of guys, then makes an oath to Felix that when he wakes up he remembers so the two become joined at the hip for like two decades.

I remember the story's premise reading to me like a fever dream when I first came across it. Craziest meet-cute I've ever heard of.

They aren't Imperial citizens any more than the denizens of the Border Princes are.
Rather a large number of the denizens of the Border Princes are Imperial citizens, just due to geographical realities of what place is nearest to the Border Princes (Tilea is both smaller and has lot more land that isn't covered by Beastman-infested forests, so a relative minority would have the motivation for leaving for elsewhere). It is an ancient and venerable family line in the Border Princes that manages to hold onto any lands or titles for even three generations of succession, and most of the population isn't born there.

He gets the blade in K8P after his original sword got broken in a fight with a mutated troll. Sword was originaly usex by a templar knight, who died in K8P after joining Belegar. In one of the later books large part of the plot is that Felix is confronted by a guy from the same knightly order, who demands the blade back.

That said it doesn't do much outside of magic item baseline (no need for maintenance, can harm things immune or highly resistant to regular weapons) or fighting dragons.

Pretty sure much later on in the series they use the sword to justify why Felix physically is the same age even though he's now been adventuring with Gotrek for something like 30 years.

A reminder that the imperial provinces are a 'cats in a bag' alliance.

when there is an outside threat to them all, they are best buddy. but otherwise, they are constantly trying to claw the eyes of each other.

Some insights into the current vote:
Adhoc vote count started by picklepikkl on Aug 24, 2022 at 10:53 AM, finished with 223 posts and 102 votes.

Revise is running away with the vote by a country mile, so that's on lock. Similarly, Eike (yay!), Karak Vlag, and Tochter (yay!) seem locked-in for socials so far. Kasmir is in a very solid fourth place, but it's not so large a lead that I can imagine it being surmounted. The real fight is for fifth place, with the new actions of Wissenland and Sylvania duking it out, Karaz-a-Karak (last turn's sixth-place by a nose) right behind them, Gold College to find out what happened with all the skaventech right behind that, and Amber College to gain CF for the gigaflex a little distance away.

Of those, I would prefer Karaz-a-Karak (since it lost so narrowly last turn) or Gold College (to find out if there are any useful fruits of the skaven research that might be available for us to make use of), but mostly I'm just happy that Tochter is getting her day in the sun.

This is from the wiki, so take it with a grain of salt:

"Felix is a human with a swordman's physique and long blond hair, who favours a chain shirt and red cloak. Over years of following Gotrek, Felix has become an accomplished swordsman and duellist. His own weapon is the rune sword Karaghul, a blade with a dragon hilt recovered from the fallen hold of Karak Eight Peaks. A relic of the Knights of the Order of the Fiery Heart, it was forged for the purpose of slaying dragons. As shown in Dragonslayer, it grants him a shield from a dragon's fiery breath, as well as providing a powerful confidence when facing such a creature. As the decades pass, old acquaintances comment that Felix has not aged a day. First shrugged off as niceties, this soon becomes fact when, in Elfslayer, Max Schreiber verifies that Felix has indeed become immortal, or as close as to make no difference. Upon self-inspection, Felix also discovers that many of his old scars and wounds have vanished from his body. Max attributes this immortal state to various causes, from both Felix's and Gotrek's magical weapons, to some force encountered during their sojourn in the Chaos Wastes, to his passing through the wormhole in Sylvania."

It basically matches what I heard. Also, apparently "Gotrek's Doom" affects Felix as well, in terms of tabletop rules, so Felix shares Gotrek's ward save. If Gotrek dies Felix loses the Ward. Probably related to his continued survival.

I have no idea what we'll do with Eike, but I assume Boney will come up with something. I recommend it be hosted in K8P and include some crazy antics. Like jumping off Mathilde's Gyrocarriage with Eike in tow and teleporting before hitting the ground for the skydiving experience. I don't think momentum carries over with teleports. Clearly nothing will go wrong. Regimand does it after all :V
Point of order, momentum does carry over between teleports.

A clearly more sensible activity would be a scavenger hunt through Karag Nar, breaking into people's paperwork to see if they really are who they say they are. It's not paranoia if the Grey Order says it isn't :V
