Yeah I actually prefer this plan over the Protector one:

[X] Plan Compromise

It meets the majority of what I want, and I was convinced that maybe bringing the Ward of Frost along would probably be wise before laying foundations. I would have preferred having the chance to explore their Ward first, but we can't always get what we want. I do eventually want to get our piloting situation sorted out though, and my current preference is Adela, since Boney has indicated that she is an option. Don't know how the action economy is sorted out for that though.

I am not familiar with Warhammer. Is it expected that they will join on their own? What would be the point of learning about them and then recruiting them, instead of the other way around? While we're not exactly running against the clock, why are they worth the 2 AP that will be spent learning and recruiting them?
It was Cadaeth (who is from the ward of frost) who approached us for the project. Not inviting them for it would be unpolitical.

Consider the following
It doesn't lay the foundation, so I won't vote for it. Otherwise it's ok, but I don't really care about the details of a plan as long as it lay the foundation. Except for bringing the Ward of Frost, I approve that.

I'm not certain Night Prowler is all that helpful here, but it's fine.

Out of nowhere, a spanner in the works:

[X] Plan Maximum Field Trip
-[X] MAX: Learning: Rituals from the colleges. Mathilde pays gold costs.
-[X] WEB-MAT: Investigate Gryphon Wood with one or more members of WEB-MAT (JOHANN, MAX, EGRIMM)
-[X] WEB-MAT: Investigate Alric with one or more members of WEB-MAT (JOHANN, MAX)
-[X] Personally scrutinize a Waystone as thoroughly as you possibly can.
-[X] Attempt to bring a Major House or Ward into the Waystone Project (Frost)
-[X] Lay the foundations: work with the current members of WEB-MAT and the Waystone Project to build a single unified framework for understanding the Waystones.
--[X] COIN: The Gambler
-[X] EIC: Investigate what trade goods the Eonir might be willing to import from the Empire.
-[X] Seek the publishing contacts to start acquiring large amounts of books from a nearby realm (Bretonnia)
-[X] SERENITY: Write a paper: Observations of Johann's prosthetic arm (FRESH)

[X] Plan Stacking Advantages
[X] Plan: Jyn+debt free

I'm very indifferent about the EIC action, so if more people say they prefer something else, I'll change it - that's the essence of compromise, no?
I think having the EIC prepare the way by having the Hochlander scope out Gryphon Wood before we go there ourself is a good play. Is the EIC action going to accomplish a lot on its own? No, which is why we're doing it ourself and not just leaving it entirely to the EIC. But at the very least, when Mathilde and Johann show up there will be prep work done and some basic information gathered, which should have narrative benefits.
Do you have a quote on that? I thought Adela is too connected to her job at K8P to become our full time pilot.
Can we grab Adela as our pilot? She's in a good position to want to know more about dwarven gyrocopters, she can probably get Max to make her spare parts to tinker with when we are in the Tor, and I like her from the adventures we had together. I think she's straightforwardly the best wizard to bring in and leave lazing about with the elves if we are trying to get them sold on importing human guns and artillery; she'll be a pretty reliable if unknowing shill for Nuln, backing up the count's gambit with the gift.
This would be possible.
If she's being recruited solely as a pilot then she wouldn't require managing, only if you also want to do other things like enchanting or research or whatnot with her.
For a curious and adventurous young Wizard, having to loiter for extended periods in the general vicinity of wherever Mathilde will be Mathilding is a perk.
FWIW, I support recruiting Adela as our pilot, since she already has the engineering background for it. @Boney, I assume this would require a personal action? If so, I'd support doing that next turn when our Overwork is available.

EDIT: That Egrimm gets mad, quits, and stomps off? You know what, if he's the sort of person likely to do that then I'd rather it happen now before we invest even more in him.
There are indications that he might not like this job.

It's about possibly bringing him in contact with Alric, who, as his superior within the Light order can take away his freedom again.

I think I'm going to change up. Ultimately I guess I care most about the little stuff: I want the library on Quinsberry, so we can show them we know about their value and want them in early as partners, and I want the EIC on Laurelorn to follow up the message we just sent by dropping near 3k of coinage and ingots into a city that's been in autarchy mode for longer than Karak Vlag.

So- looking at plans now. One sec

[X] Plan Stacking Advantages

I think people are forgetting how much of a smooth operator Johann is, due to all the memes of the golden fist wizard.

[X] Plan Pickle's Political Protector Proposal

[x] Plan Compromise

I really quite like the compromise plan but as long as pickles is frontrunner I shan't pull my support. Therefore I will use my awesome and mysterious powers to do the unthinkable! Vote for two things!

I still don't get this. It's using the EIC action as the Hochlander action, which is just weird. The Hochlander isn't a hyper competent scout, and the EIC is useful because it's an organization and not because of the one guy who is a decent woodsman.
FWIW, I support recruiting Adela as our pilot, since she already has the engineering background for it.
Huh, alright then. I wouldn't have thought it would work but if Boney says it does I guess that's not a bad idea. She'll probably learn piloting faster than Max, too.

No amount of smooth operator will cover for being a golden man with a lizard arm. In order to use a silver tongue the other person has to listen.

Also, fine voting for this, I am curious about windherding

You mean unpolitical as in apolotical, as in it's neither sucking up or snubbing them? Or unpolitical as in it's a bad move politically? If we start the project by laying the foundations this turn, would that be a blatant sleight to people?

Compromise delays Foundations by using Egrimm's delegation for Windherding instead of Alric, fair compromise though tbh.

Do it and be legends!

Look, I really think the thread has been way over-cautious of Egrimm. You know what, if we offend him we can apologize. We've been through some shit together by now. I think Mathilde has a little credit in the bank. I'd actually rather he be angry for a while but at least we know the full extent of his feelings rather than this constant tip-toeing.

Like, what is the worst possible outcome here? What are we really afraid of?

EDIT: That Egrimm gets mad, quits, and stomps off? You know what, if he's the sort of person likely to do that then I'd rather it happen now before we invest even more in him.
There are significantly worse outcomes than Egrimm quitting, (though Egrimm quitting is worse than it initially appears). Just off the top of my head, here are a few potential outcomes.

  1. Let's say Egrimm quits. Let's look at the fallout shall we? First, we're down a Lord Magister and all the secrets that a Lord Magister has access to that a standard Magister doesn't.
    • It invalidates much of the perks we negotiated last turn and the AP spend.
    • Having a Light Lord Magister suddenly quit will, at the very least, make recruiting a replacement from his college harder.
  2. Egrimm is really unhappy and spills the beans on what we asked him to do publicly.
    • Mathilde is now seen as interfering in the affairs of another order, meaning they're likely to close ranks. Losing the advantages we've already gained.
    • It can make further college recruitments harder, as we're seen as the sort of person who will meddle in other college affairs.
    • Alric could possibly ride the wave of support he'd gain from it being known we're interfering (accurately pointing to Mira as the culprit) to sweep back into office.
  3. Egrimm doesn't quit, but starts to resent Mathilde for dragging him into this spat and gradually starts contributing less and less (or even hiding insights so he can publish seperately), leaving us at best, with a toxic asset we have to deal with going forward. He may also grow to resent Mira since he didn't get promoted because he deserved it and she recognised that, but because he was a political favour.
  4. Egrimm enthusiastically helps out and gets caught at it, allowing Alric to spin this whole thing as a jealous former underling looking for revenge. See point 2 for fallout, except it's even easier for Alric to spin.

I mean that. They proposed us to come, so i imagine they except something in return. Not repaying what could be considered as a favour would let people think we're not trustworthy. Also (and mostly), it would probably lead to the Ward of Frost to be hostile towards us.

Given that Cadeath seemed to know things about the Waytrees, I also think she could bring useful knowledge.

[X] Plan Compromise

Also, Adela is a much better candidate for gyrocopter pilot. She's already an engineer, and she's ambitious—and being the personal chauffeur for a lord magister gives her lots of opportunities to exploit. On our side of the equation, it essentially means we have a Bright Wizard within arm's reach whenever we go anywhere, and because she's not a web-mat member she doesn't cost web-mat ap or have the "must be used every few turns" issue the other web-mat wizards have. Also we like and (sort of) trust her.

Just to point out something for plan Compromise and others...

We don't actually have to do the Gryphon Wood this turn! It's okay to carry the debt for six months. We could Lay the Foundations this Turn and do Gryphon Wood next turn.

Aflric is probably time sensitive, but I think we've got a little too focused on assuming we have to do Gryphon Woods this turn if we're having trouble fitting in Laying the Foundations.

He gets fed up and cracks open his Book of Forbidden Chaos Magic. :V

That's what the wizard robe is for. If he was walking around naked, then the whole "golden below the head" thing would be a secondary problem, anyways.

While it's true we can (probably) delay the Gryphon Wood action, all relevant plans are doing it through a WEB-MAT action, which can't be used to lay the foundations. So it's a bit of a moot point.

Someone completely covered by robes and gloves is still pretty recoginzable, even before you consider his molten eyes and his giant golden clawed lizard arm.

I'd actually prefer to lay the foundations next turn anyway, since I'd like to bring the Amber Order in before we do if at all possible - we know Dragomas is interested, and they very likely have some relevant information.

It's actually kind of funny, but Johann can't wear gloves to cover his new prosthetic. It's way too sharp, so it rips up most stuff. He wore Max crafted metal gauntlets and kept shredding the sheaths keeping his claws wrapped up:
It still takes Johann quite some time to adapt, as even though the new arm is responding much the same as if it was his old one, it still differs in length, strength, range of motion, and dozens of other small ways that combine to turn the usually-nimble Johann rather clumsy. The claws prove much stronger than his gilded fist, and Max has to produce several more gauntlets of even stronger designs after Johann accidentally mangles the first few, the golden claws slicing themselves free of their steel sheaths.
He does have something covering his prosthetic, it just so happens to be a very thick and well constructed steel gauntlet. Not exactly the most conspicous thing out there.
