so this issue is not really a big deal for the Grey Order and given his position Starke would certainly be able to use many words to say nothing in response to pointed questions.

We could leave now, but that would give Starke an impression about how we would react in the future as well and he might just not approach us for things like that anymore in the future, even if we wanted to.

So the least we could do, is give him a politician response: 10 minutes speech without content that no one really believes, which is basically the Nothing option.
He would of course know it is all bullshit and i guess it doesnt impress people much if you want to use it as a counter-argument against malicious interpretations of the event, but hey, we would get through the meeting with a minimum of courtesy without revealing anything.

If we do want to give a story, one point that is interesting is this: how public will the info that we give him become?
Would revealing our faith for example just mean revealing it to him and the order? or to everyone who cares to ask?
He might just give out abridged or edited versions, but i guess it might make sense to consider anything we reveal here publicly available.

I think with that in mind, I would try to avoid showing just how little Mathilda thinks of Sigmar.
Does this just leave Skaven and Trauma? or am i missing something?

I still think it's quite possible Starke could potentially have the ability to fact check the skaven story easily (Something like a room filled with books for each wizard, a page within which the ink disappears on when one of the infodumps is triggered, that perpetuals check on daily. Or something similar seems quite feasible for how the ritual might work). But the more I think about it the more I think it might not matter. Take him at his word and he doesn't care at all and it's just for public consumption, in which case it's a great answer. While if he's lying? Then a lie in exchange for a lie seems like a suitable tit for tat in the grey order.

Could we perhaps tell him grief, but ask him to spread the Skaven story in public? That way we do not have to lie to our superior, but with the grey order backing the Skaven bs other orders would probably find it difficult to dig up the more uncomfortable truths.

[X] Trauma

This is close enough to the truth while also keeping the insinuation of any relationship regarding Abelhelm firmly in the past, which is where I'd prefer it to be.

Out of curiosity, I'm seeing a lot of people propose write-in answers. That isn't much a part of this thread culture, but has been huge in other quests. Is this new folk?

[x] Grief
[x] Other (write-in): Grief, but note that it certainly looks like Skaven would fit and such an explaination would paint Mathilde and The Order in a better light if it were the public story.

[X] You wanted to reform the watch into a more intrigue focused organization, but your steps had fierce opposition in the watch. You thought attempting to bring the worship of Ranald into the watch will give you a pretext to remove those most opposed to your changes from the organization. It wasn't a very good idea, but you went through with it because you worried Stirland was especially vulnerable in the wake of Abelhelm's death, so you rushed things.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I am new. Write-ins were explicitly given as an option here, which probably helps.

[X] Skaven
I would not want to deal with personal feelings and want this to end. Skaven makes it so no one not on the know can deal with it.

I'll go for skaven for now but if I see a decent write-in similar as Skaven but not directly mentionning the Skaven, I'll probably switch my vote.

The thing is, Mathilde was absolutely building the Watch to take on the skaven. If Starke goes looking, he will find a lot of evidence that we were building the watch to fight the skaven. Because OOC we were. The guy we put in charge of it thought that was what we were doing, we merged them with the rat catchers, and probably some other stuff I've forgotten about at the moment.

Did Mathilde realize she was doing it at the time? Nah, but she was, in retrospect, clearly aiming the watch squarely at the skaven.
My concern here is that the Grey Order memory-gates knowledge of the Skaven with magic, and only certain triggers will unlock it. So if we say this, then why wouldn't Starke's follow-up question be "what made you aware of the Skaven's existence before you headed to Karak 8 Peaks?" And then we're in the realm of pure invention.
