Super Robot Quest

"...are you absolutely certain this is the human mech that gave you so much...trouble?" Scrapheap asked slowly as he observed the realtime feeds. A clawed hand readjusted the monocle-optic, clicking sounds echoing on the dropship's bridge as he tried to see if his optic was fooling him.

Surely...surely the human machinery that nearly forced him to reconstruct Bandit's internal infrastructure couldn't be this bad at combat, could it?

"Uh...yes?"

Scrapheap remained silent as a follow on attack from the - he double checked his records, ah, yes - the Beowulf launched into what was admittedly an elegant sweep kick miss again. In response, the lead Drone readied the improvised mining blaster, the drill spinning fiercely as the focusing lens began to collect power.

Bandit just placed a hand over his face plate as the crystal then abruptly shut down, the earlier stumble having caused something to go out of alignment.

Scrapheap remained silent as he watched the Drones coalesce around the Beowulf, watching what was less of an epic struggle and more of a failed bar brawl in a satellite down-district pub brawl. The human war machine was surprisingly agile - one would almost mistake it for a Kaus if it weren't for the fact they had confirmation there was a human piloting it - but the incompetents attempting to mob him might as well have been consuming junkyard-fabricated shards.

"You're making me look bad!" Bandit screeched as he tore through the terrain. His larger, boxier Configuration form was still hell on wheels, no matter what any of the others thought. And the soon-to-be-trusty Mk. II blaster was spewing overcharged energy blasts, leaving glass crater after glass crater with each volley. Nevermind the fact that the damned Beowulf was already Configuring to get out of the way, practically tipping on one side to avoid his blasts on some of his turns. Nevermind the fact that the weapon was already trying to feed him warning signals that he blithely ignored.

Even when it was losing, the Beowulf was making him look bad!

Bandit twisted his head, easing up some of the servo tension in his neck. "Alright, big ugly," he growled, the Mk. II humming strangely in his arms. "Let's try this again!"

"Funny, that's my line," the human responded harshly. Even as damaged as it was, gaining a size and mass-up would do wonders to any sentient's self confidence. It slammed one hand into an open palm, the echoing sound resembling a gun platform recoil. "Let's go!"
And meanwhile, the negaverse is considering how they plan everything after the one guy talks about the impact that everything failing turn 1 had on the engagement in the rematch between Bandit and Timberwolf!:rofl:
Bonus points if it also inspires an episode in the anime.:D

So, Beowulf is showing that it's more equipped as a Duelist machine. The Free Brother mooks are significantly higher tier than the Westphalians, which makes sense, and Kaiju don't really do mooks beyond things like suicide drones.

We may want to consider launching pre-combined when engaging Kausians.

On the possibility that Basarin brought up about checks for forced decombining, I'm in favor. Feels Genre appropriate and encourages bringing multiple combine units to act as HP refreshs.

...If the latter technique is viable, then that would make all of our super mecha super annoying.:D
I Approve of the idea.

12 HP mooks? This is some Barrelion tier bullshit.

Yeah, this and Bandit's new knife really does drive the point that the Kausen are legitimately a step above us/Westphalia/possibly the Kaiju? in quality.

I'd say individually below Kaiju on average with outliers that spike above Kaiju. But the thing is, you only fight one Kaiju, maybe 2 if the universe hates you, but the Kaus? They'll use actual formations and tactics, and significantly higher numbers. We underestimated them based on Bandit's lackluster initial showing while forgetting Cav had already gone a round, the Fort troops went down swinging, and he was caught off guard.

Brainstorming for battle plans open, forgot to set that.

May insert an interlude in the meantime, need to get back into the swing of writing.

Hmm, Alpha-Strike right off the bat and hope that we bring one of their health bars low enough that they retreat? Or should we focus on taking down Scraphead? If he goes down then that's the Free Brother's main/most experienced "medic" off from the board, which, in my opinion, is way more advantageous than taking down Bandit.

I disagree. The main point of this operation is to kill or capture Bandit, because he has been especially active in raiding Earth. If we can take down both all the better

- We may want Cav to use his "Quick Feet and Sharp Words" ability on Scrapheap, to keep Scrapheap out of the fight. First we should finish off drone mob 2 though, probably.
- Bandit doesn't seem to have the agile trait or built in damage reduction, but I bet he has an energy shield.

[X] Plan Almost as Planned
-[X] Beowulf is to focus on Bandit
--[X] If the Timberwolf formation is reduced to 12 HP or less, switch to Foxhound formation
-[X] Cavalier is to keep Scrapheap from helping Bandit.
-[X] 9th Armored are to engage the drone mobs, starting with mob 2.
-[X] V-33s should target the drone mobs, starting with mob 2.
-[X] The Pegasus should target Bandit
-[X] Ocular should use Predictive Algorithm on Bandit, otherwise act at his discretion.

Way I see it, Bandit is known to be a early tech adopter, that means he's our loot Piñata here. Beat him and we can get access to new Xenotech, like that knife.

Scrapheap though is at the very least one of the Free Brothers Medics, and the one that their boss finds to be competent enough to perform surgery on him. If we can kill him we could potentially cripple the Free Brothers long term as they'll need longer downtime to heal, pull out of operations faster of they start sustaining injuries or potentially surrender for treatment by the Legio. Of course it could backfire and we run into Free Brothers who go, "If we can't get fixed back up, time to go out in a blaze of glory."

[X] Plan Almost as Planned with more Swording

using the sword now might catch Bandit off guard since we didn't have it last time,

Remember that we don't need to micromanage our units, they will use their best judgement when deciding what to do. For example, the plan before the battle was to use heavy weapons on Bandit, but Callaghan decided to use the demolisher array on the drone mobs instead.

Fight going rough? Time to bust out the new toy!

...considering that most giant robot anime were a vehicle to sell toys, that might not be hyperbole.
