Anyway, the whole reason I was asking is because I watched Bo Burnhams new special lately and I literally haven't been able to get this stupid fucking joke out of my head since I heard the Bezos song

I'm sorry for any tortured lyrics, this is very far from my forte:

CEO, entrepreneur
Born in 1974
Lexy
Lexy Luthor

CEO, entrepreneur
Born in 1974
Lexy
Lexy Luthor

Come on, Lexy, you can do it
Pave the way, put your back into it
Tell us why, show us how
Look at where you came from, look at you now
Sunderland and Wayne and Daggett
Amateurs, can fucking suck it
Fuck their wives, drink their blood
Come on, L, get 'em!

AAAAH!

Lexy Luthor
Lexy Luthor
Lexy Luthor
Ugh!
Lexy Luthor
Lexy Luthor
Lexy Luthor
You did it!

Lexy Luthor
Lexy Luthor
Lexy Luthor
Congratulations!
Lexy Luthor
Lexy Luthor
Lexy Luthor
Oh!
I'm very tempted to include this in the media section and award you exp for this. That being said there are some potential alterations you might want to do.

For example Lexy is two syllables while Jeffery is three so it's not a perfect match. If you want to keep the same sort of joke Bo went for (calling the billionaire by the more lengthy version of their name) You could replaced the Lexy's with Alexander's. It would result in some tempo alterations due to Alexander being four syllables and not three but you could conceivably fit it in there. This then frees you up to replace L with Lex so it's not overly repetitive.

On top of that you could drop Sunderland and replace it with Cord and Queen and still have it mostly on beat and you could replace the year reference with LexCorp (it's a bit of a twisted rhyme but four and corp can both be pronounced close enough that you can rhyme them with entrepreneur like Bo did). Also while the "fuck their wives, drink their blood" lines are hilarious you could potentially replace it with something more pertinent if you want to make it about Quest Lex specifically.

These aren't so much improvements so much as my brain latching on to stuff and immediately going "I can work with this" and so I think it's fun to see how far you can push it while retaining the original flavor and intent of the song.

You might end up with something like this as the final result (what's here would require some tempo tweaks to fit but it's a fun sort of rough draft alteration):

CEO, entrepreneur
Born in 1974
Alexander
Alexander Luthor

CEO, entrepreneur
Head of the conglomerate LexCorp
Alexander
Alexander Luthor

Come on, Alex, you can do it
Pave the way, put your back into it
Tell us why, show us how
Look at where you came from, look at you now
Queen and Kord and Wayne and Daggett
Amateurs, can fucking suck it
Steal their sidekicks, drink their blood
Come on, Lex, get 'em!

AAAAH!

I don't have a specific year for Lex to be born. I personally place him as a little bit older than Bruce Wayne and as someone who started the quest in his early 20's. That means that Lex was born sometime in the seventies but I don't have an exact date for you due to my preference to keep things vague.
Given that you canonized my Grand Tour omakes as I recall, Lorelei Luthor pretty much has to have been an adult in 1938, and probably not just barely eighteen, either. I've always figured she was born some time between about 1915 and 1918.

Lionel Luthor definitely wasn't conceived until after World War Two ended, but could plausibly have been born any time up through about the late 1950s. A birth date in the '70s is therefore plausible for Lex, though he could easily be a bit older in principle.

On the other hand, Lionel Luthor must have had control of the company for some reasonable length of time after Lorelei died, because he made a lot of changes. And Lorelei lived long enough to interact with and be remembered by Lex... and Lex, in turn, killed Lionel and started the quest some time in the early 1990s, around 1991-92 or so as I recall.

So Lorelei was almost certainly dead by 1980 or so... but not before 1976 or so, if Lex himself was born in the '70s.

I'm very tempted to include this in the media section and award you exp for this.
I think you should do it. Getting people's creativity flowing is good.

@jonasquinn the post where you wrote has been added to the media threadmark and you've earned 400 exp. Sorry for deliberating on the matter a while I just wasn't sure about things. That being said I'd like the okay from you on threadmarking that post. You'll keep the exp no matter what but if you want to repost the song lyrics elsewhere or just don't want it threadmarked at all let me know and I'll alter things. That being said, congrats, you're the first person to earn exp for an entirely written post in the media threadmarks, I personally really enjoyed it even if by your own admission it wasn't your forte and I hope you try again with this kind of stuff.

Thank you and I am completely fine with it being threadmarked

I'm glad you enjoyed it even if it could be much better

Turn 27 Results Part 4
And so the first parts of the subvote section have come out. I wanted to try something a little different with some of the options and so I hope you find things interesting and engaging. There's no massive curveballs and most of this stuff should be pretty run of the mill but you've got a good amount of things to get to.

I actually think that there's a lot of interesting information that might affect people's decision-making here a bit that I'm not sure if the thread is aware of it or not. Firstly is that Helena Bertinelli on top of being able to act as another security/military hero unit, actually has a teaching degree and so can legally be employed as a teacher. It's not a major thing but it opens up options you might not initially consider. Secondly while I have called Silver Banshee in the text of the quest a "metahuman" before this is potentially misleading information (she looks and acts like a metahuman so Lex thinks she is one) but traditionally Silver Banshee is not a metahuman and instead merely looks like a metahuman from the outside. This does have implications for both her character and her potential uses as a hero unit.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have and I'll do my best to answer what I can. I hope you all enjoy!

Oversight Committee Candidate subvote
With you having held up your part of the bargain now it is up for the government of Japan to live up to its end of the deal. Naturally being able to pick your own candidate to place on their oversight committee is an advantage well worth seizing. As such you ought to pick a candidate who will both be able to regularly see what is going on and interact with other members of the committee and is someone whom the other members would listen to and respect. It's an important choice to make as it'll shape how you interact with the Japanese government's own stance on metahumans. Please pick your favorite option from the list below. Write-ins are available for this subvote but all write-ins are subject to QM approval. There is a 1 hour moratorium on voting.

[ ] [OCC] Lex Luthor
There is an expression that if you want something done right you ought to do it yourself. Claiming candidacy personally will ensure that your will gets enacted and respected but you're unsure how effectively you'll be able to keep an ear to the ground and aware of what the relevant facts are.

[ ] [OCC] Mercy Graves
Mercy is almost as good an option as you yourself in terms of being someone who knows what to do and will be respected but she almost certainly will not be able to actively monitor the situation due to also being the head of LexCorp security.

[ ] [OCC] Katherine Kane
Katherine's someone with experience and someone who is respected in Japan due to forging ties while training the Tokyo troopers. She also is someone whom you can afford to have stick around in Japan for a while to make sure everything is able to work out all right. However all of this comes at the potential cost of annoying her due to moving her out of the country Pamela works in and will put her outside of LexCorp's main aegis of influence.

[ ] [OCC] Mari McCabe
Mari is a competent businesswoman and while not a metahuman is metahuman adjacent. She personally might run into some issues in getting people to listen to her but you are confident that she can prove competent enough to succeed in this role without compromising her current position

[ ] [OCC] Marie Louise Dahl
Marie has proven to be useful as one of LexCorp's main PR people. Her job doesn't require her to be in any one city. As such this could be an opportunity to see if you can get Marie to apply her skills to a more complicated bit of optics management. She's almost certainly going to encounter difficulties due to her disabilities but it might be worth it to challenge Marie and see if she can rise to the occasion.

[ ] [OCC] Mr. Frost
Mr. Frost is a meticulous individual who while finicky and often pedantic about details, is capable of running quite the efficient and effective team if given the opportunity. Putting him forth as your candidate could result in good results for the fledgling department to be shaped according to your will but it would have to account for his eccentricities.

[ ] [OCC] Write-In

Silver Banshee Recruitment subvote
Oswald Loomis and Rene Carpenter have managed to meet Silver Banshee AKA Siobhan McDougall. The teenaged supervillain seemed remarkably at ease being confined in prison, even whilst wearing some kind of collar meant to shock her if she used her powers. Still despite Silver Banshee's initially caustic attitude and her irreverence for others, she proved willing to negotiate things and hold a conversation with others. Ultimately Siobhan ended up offering a deal. Silver Banshee is willing to work for LexCorp in exchange for a few things. Firstly in order to work for LexCorp, the company must provide Siobhan with a room that has security around it at least equivalent to the prison she is currently in, can be looked from the outside and preferably is soundproof. An odd request but one likely tied into why she is at ease remaining in prison. Secondly Siobhan demands that LexCorp allow her to pursue a career in music. LexCorp is not required to aid her in any way besides providing her with a reasonable wage, a way to access a recording system, internet access and the time to pursue such a potential career. It's not really much of an issue and is something you could likely push back on and alter but it seems as though this is something Silver Banshee clearly wants. Thirdly Silver Banshee has demanded that LexCorp give her the means to pursue higher education which includes potential monetary costs of attending university. You can accept Silver Banshee's deal as is, push for something else or just reject it outright. It's up to you to decide what to do with this potential powerhouse's proposed deal. Please pick your favorite option from the list below. As always there is a 1 hour moratorium on voting.

[ ] [Silver] Accept Silver Banshee's deal as is
[ ] [Silver] Propose a counter-offer to Silver Banshee's deal (triggers another subvote)
[ ] [Silver] Deny Silver Banshee's deal entirely

Hiring Dekan Drache subvote
Dekan Drache has come as promised and demonstrated his magical prowess to your panel of observers. On the surface he seems practically ideal to be hired on for a position at LexCorp. He's demonstrated a wide variety of magical skills and was able to pack a good amount of power behind it. Furthermore he didn't bother with lying or attempting to trick you and instead just delivered on what he'd promised. However in practice things are a little more complicated. There seems to be a discrepancy between what he can do and his own knowledge of how to practically use what he can do and apply it which is odd if not a deal breaker necessarily. The most concerning thing was that Dekan Drache seemed to be talking to some outside source you were unaware of whenever he did something particularly impressive. Whether that was some kind of incantation, a way for Dekan to consult an outsider for advice or most concerningly a way for Dekan Drache to receive commands on what to do the fact remains that this is an unknown and a potential variable for complications. Still it's your call what to ultimately do in this situation. Please pick your favorite option from the list below. As always there is a 1 hour moratorium on voting.

[ ] [Drache] Hire Dekan Drache as a full member of LexCorp
[ ] [Drache] Hire Dekan Drache in a non-official off the books capacity
[ ] [Drache] Attempt to get a way to contact Dekan Drache to have him work as an independent contractor
[ ] [Drache] Don't work with Dekan Drache at all anymore

Hunting Prey subvote
Helena Bertinelli met you and struck a deal with you nearly two years ago. It seems as though results are starting to show from the seeds you planted all the way back then. Helena has not succeeded in killing the man responsible for her parents death but she has narrowed down his most likely identity to Stephan Mandragora. However the Batman has been coming down on her hard and has slowly been closing in on her, getting closer and closer to finally capturing her. As such Helena is offering an alteration to your original deal in order to keep to the spirit of the first deal while helping her accomplish her goals. Helena is going to make one last attempt on Madragora's life and then regardless of her success or failure she'll head out to work for LexCorp. However if she does fail to kill Mandragora she expects LexCorp to give her resources to enable her to attempt again next year. If she continues to fail to kill Mandragora then LexCorp is obligated to assist her with at least one attempt a year until she succeeds. It's a deal that complicates things but definitely something to consider. Please pick your favorite option from the list below. As always there is a 1 hour moratorium on voting.

[ ] [Hunt] Accept Helena's deal as is
[ ] [Hunt] Offer an alternative deal (triggers another subvote)
[ ] [Hunt] Stick to the old deal no matter what
[ ] [Hunt] Cut Helena loose and declare that all previous deals are now null and void

I weirdly feel that Mr. Frost would actually work really well with Japanese culture? Like I feel they have a clearly defined way of doing things that he can slip into. There are exact expectations for him and those that would work with him. Certainly a lot less freedom than around American workspaces.

I think sending our PR person on this may work out well for us. She has decent Diplomacy and Intrigue to meet with others and catch plans in the background, useful for getting information on Daizo Uehara. Though I'd want to have someone cast the Language Learning Spell on her soon for some stat boosts.

Also who knows maybe he'll run into a nice Yuki Onna...

let her rise to the occasion, she might not be the best but she's loyal, I mean we all want her to win something and get some achievements

@King crimson just want to clarify how the oversight committee pick works. Will the hero we choose be unavailable on certain turns similar to Pamela, or is it actions that pop up that only that person can take each turn like EPA actions?

It won't deny you hero availability ever, but picking certain heroes will give you different actions, different DC's and potentially different amounts of information.

If that's the case I would rather choose Marie Dahl, who may give us PR activites, meetings, and investigation activites (or meeting with criminals), over Frost who would give us more building and management projects which we already have plenty of for ourselves. We need to meet people and spread our influence, and see what people are scheming in the background, which I think Marie is better suited for. We need Frost for our in house projects and local expansions (like Specialized Labs and other Stewardship actions).

Not saying Frost would be a bad pick, just saying we need him at LexCorp more than abroad, and Marie would be better for doing work in another country. Though she may need a teaching action similar to Pamela when we got her ready for the EPA, or get the Language Learning Spell cast on her.

Edit. Putting my vote here.

I'm fine with recruiting Silver Banshee and Dekan Drache, either officially or off the books similar to Nygma. I'm ok with Helena's deal, if she fails we can give her a stealth suit or armor for her next attempt (assuming she doesn't get tracked by Batman). Going with Marie Dahl for the oversight committee.

I can see benefits for anyone we put forward to head the committee, so I'll personally abstain from that vote for now. I'm generally fine with the deals they're striking, so I'll just vote to accept them as is. I want to recruit Dekan, but can't decide whether he should be on or off the books. On the one hand, being an actual high-ranking mega-corp employee might earn us some brownie points from Dekan by giving his superiority complex more fodder, on the other hand we might not want to have it as a matter of record that this guy works for us if and/or when he gets bodynapped by Faust.

Germans Love David Hasselhoff - TV Tropes

Also known as "Big in Japan". A version of the Ensemble Dark Horse, where interest in a character (or an entire work) is sparked by an audience well-divorced from the production source, particularly if the show is released in other countries.

Marie may be more famous and popular in Japan based on her old show?

Kath is best suited to deal with Danzo and his Troopers, she have high intrigue and already somewhat suspicious of them. As for her situation with Pamela, as I understand it she would not need to spend all her time in Japan, plus we can give Pamela some mission in Japan, or have her personally teach Kath diplomacy so negative consequences of choosing Katherine as representative can be easily negated.

I have concerns with placing Dahl into this position. I feel that it is unlikely that the Japanese will respect her which will weakens our position.

I'll admit, I'm pretty split on this vote. Mostly because this quest is currently set in the 90s and that creates a bad position for Marie. I expect a disabled Western woman in Japan that looks like a child to face significant cultural opposition and bias.

Yes we can make good use of abilities there, but how much are we hurting ourselves by putting her in that position? Its possible that not only will we alienate the Japanese side, but also damage Marie's mental health from being in that environment. I ask the thread to think more on these issues instead of jumping on that vote. I'm not sure its actually worth sending her.

Everything she says and does, even with Lexcorp's backing, will be met with inherently more opposition. She will possibly be working in an environment that will constantly trigger her hatred of people who treat her differently. I'm not sure its in our, or her's, best interest to go into this position.

Marie is going to have problems navigating that cultural landscape

Honestly, for Siobhan, I kind of what to give her more. Like, building the young woman a professional quality recording studio or equivalent thereof just isn't that hard. Heck - we could eat a smallish record label for her no problem. Assuming she works out, she's going to be one of our A-lister superhero assets. We want to keep her image tied to LexCorp to a degree, and having her be a music star is great in all sorts of ways.
