I do wonder if the option would have been doing better if the title was "head of city sewer jacks" or something.
Yeah exactly. A martial advisor or a special council position as "Special Advisor" or something would work better.
Honestly I think it is a matter of prestige and suspicion.

We are a Grey Lady Magister if we are appointed to something public people are going to notice and speculate what is up. Appoint us as a Spymaster? Nobody bats an eye it is the expected position for a Grey Wizard, specific targets might be in question but nothing suspicious about us looking into one of the many terrible things in Warhammer people know lurk in shadows. Appoint us to "Head of city sewer jacks"? Everyone who doesn't know about Skaven is going to be wonder what we are actually doing because a Lady Magister obvious is doing that. Similar with special advisor people would wonder what it is we are fighting that a Grey Lady Magister is being used as a martial advisor.

Plus being Spymaster of Wissenland has a bit more perks to it as a full council position then just a side role. It might be assumed not offering us the full position would be either insulting or unattractive when we have other options. Which ... well we do! You want to make you offer as attractive as possible when you are trying to recruit top talent like this.

But then my vote would look like this:

[><] Loremaster Sinecure
[><] Loremaster-at-Large of Karak Eight Peaks
[><] The Waystone Project
[><] Markgraf of Eastern Stirland
[><] Count of Sylvania
[><] Spymaster of Wissenland
[><] Ambassador-at-Large to the Karaz Ankor
[><] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred
[><] Ranaldian High Priest of Kislev
[><] Nagarythe
[><] Research Sabbatical
Then vote for them all: show your support

I'm okay with Markgraf too, but the traveling and solving different issues aspect of the Tutor is much more appealing. I am sending out a call to all Markgraf voters to approval vote the best option, which is Tutor
Speaking as someone voting Edgelord who'd also rather have literally anything other tutor win... no. No, I won't. :p

To put my thoughts in order on why my top three choices are what they are:

I want Mathilde to have a constantly changing backdrop for the next while. I've seen what a deep dive into the dwarfs was like, and while I like dwarfs, it still started to get tiresome after a while.

Bodyguard offers a change of focus to the Empire, and then a whole bunch of episodic things as we go around the empire fixing things - that's appealing.

Waystones offers us a chance to visit Laurelorn, and to travel around the world investigating various Waystones and gathering info that way.

Loremaster-at-Large at least offers us a chance to go and interact with a bunch of different dwarfholds that all have their own culture and problems, plus provide some empire assistance on the side.

Sylvania offers us Sylvania and more Sylvania with Sylvania on top.

I think im going to turn off the account for a bit: I have a zoom meeting in an hour and I dont want to be thinking of this while I'm doing it.

later folks

Vote Edgelord! the Twilight Rider compels you!

Honestly I am 100% fine with that. We can enjoy the world without always having to "fix" it. There are an almost infinite amount of things I'd rather spend AP on then Waystones and the idea of dedicating decades to it annoys me.

Fair enough, that is a more than valid opinion.

My post more about the fact that if someone is opposing waystones now because there is other, more time sensitive options available and they want to clear these time-sensitive options first, then there is never time to do Waystones because there will always be more time-sensitive stuff to do first.

If you don't want Waystones, that is perfectly fine.
But if the argument for not doing Waystones has anything to do with timeliness of it, then that is bad argument because there will never be a better time to do it. As Boney said, the best time for the project was 4500 years ago. The second best time is now.

Personally, I want it done sooner rather than later, because the goal of learning how to reactivate intact but otherwise offline Waystones can provide major boons to all non-chaos-aligned factions, and I'm interested to see more about the lore relating to them, as well as the Eonir.
I am also interested to see if we can't learn to tap into the powerflows, to maybe assist with major spellcasting stuff.

I mean, they might, but the obvious answer to the speculation is "Counter-espionage specifically centered around the crown heir". The Emperor and their varied heirs have been the center of plots and conspiracies for over 2000 years now and a Grey Lady Magister is the logical solution to that kind of thing, especially with a track record like ours.

I find that those who want to build upon the legend of the Dämmerlichtreiter by choosing Sylvania could probably build it anywhere else and make it go Empire-Wide even if they didn't focus solely on Sylvania

Re-voting to be sure.

[x] Loremaster-at-Large of Karak Eight Peaks
[x] Markgraf of Eastern Stirland
[x] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred
[x] Spymaster of Wissenland
[x] Governor-General of Swamp Town
[x] Ranaldian High Priest of Kislev

I know what I want is unachievable, but I have to vote for it anyway.
bbuut i also gotta vote for

[X] Ranaldian High Priest of Kislev
[x] The Waystone Project
[x] Loremaster-at-Large of Karak Eight Peaks

I actually am very uncertain on this point.
Ranald put a massive chunk of divine power we stole from Orc Gods put onto the Mandred gambit and thus Heidi. If there were a conflict between us and Heidi, well, we are his favourite puppy but Heidi is his ongoing big con with a lot invested into it. So I'd say odds of on which side he'll intervene - or if he just decides to abstain - are about even.

And while Mathy is all that, Heidi is an Empress, which is very much a title which comes with power. Mostly soft power and not nearly as much as Emperor has, but there's no reason to assume she is powerless, especially in field of intrigue. Yes, in open battle we'd easily stab her to death, but she knows this too and therefore is not going to get into open fight, or anything but a very gentle touch really. She wouldn't have swayed the Emperor and the court if she were incapable of that much.
Yeah, Heidi is very much into the deceiver aspect of Ranald*, has lived for an unknown amount of time apparently being completely loyal to Ranald. I don't think we rank higher than her.
*
If Heidi was who the Emperor thought she was, then she'd either be off the list or it'd be a package deal. But she's not. Heidi is, in whole or in part, a fiction. The woman Mathilde knows is someone the Emperor has never met.
and all the other general sliminess
