We should definitely try to disconnect Vlag, because otherwise the Gribblies will continue to feed. The magic accumulating somewhere else is also bad, but not as bad as being directly fed into an ongoing effect like this. Optimally, we'd reroute it (or rather, get some Ice Witches to come up and handle it), so it goes around Vlag, but I don't know if either Mathilde or the Ice Witches have the necessary expertise.

And this, folks, is why you make sure to be in a romantic relationship before charging into the Chaos Wastes. No falling for temptation when you know it'd make your spouse sad.

Maybe we should've romanced Cython before heading out, just to have an extra lifeline...
Well, probably not so much "skill" as "superhuman strength and toughness and natural weapons" is what their bonus represents.

They sure cleared out quick once Deathfang showed up, though!
It is worth remembering that "exessive skill" is within Slaneesh's purview. Followers of the Tempter are not only insanely fast, they tend to be stupidly good at whatever it is they're doing as well. Which is really unfortunate when what they're doing is cutting your body into pretty ribbons.

So, I know that the elves only gave us permit to be among them for a hundred days or so for our services rendered, but do you think its possible we could reach out to Teclis instead, trying to leverage it that way instead? The fact that Karak Vlag escaped his notice right under his eyes should nettle him enough that he might decide to pay it a visit if he learned of how it is now. And if Teclis visits, well, i don't think anyone needs to worry about few shoddy daemonettes.

Its probably too much pay for lot of nothing, but i felt the need to throw this out there.
Unlikely. Teclis doing stuff is extremely high level politics. You can't do stuff simply because of personal feelings at that level.

Wow, Mathilda did something to make Chaos take a personal shot at her. Between that , and solving a 200 year old mystery, that seems like it could be a big deal back at the college.

Funnily enough, we could now write a paper on this and Teclis would be interested in reading it. I don't think there is anything we can do now. While Runelords would help, we would need people with Warp expertise like a Skink or Slann, or a High Elf mage.

It's very firmly on the "Not going to happen" list, but the idea of some Slann somewhere reading Mathilde's paper on it and going, "Hang on. The Great Plan says that mountain isn't supposed to be in the warp at all!" makes me laugh.

Disrupt the flow of energy, keep disrupting it to force the hold back to reality, hold off any daemons long enough for them to "naturally" dissolve, result of one empty karak?

If this is plausible to pull off, it might be the best bet. There would inevtiably be a pretty huge reaction from the daemon forces to kill everyone before they ran out of magic and dissolve, but if there's any good time to have that battle, it's when we have an army, a dragon, and a bunch of Dawi to fortify a location that the enemy has to attack. My biggest concern is that it's simply not plausible; even if we remove the magic source, it won't meaningfully impede the deamons on a relevant time scale. We'll have to see what BoneyM says, but my gut feeling is that it won't be this simple.

I would love to be wrong, though.

Edit: BoneyM answered while I was typing. It's plausible but would take days. I doubt we can stop the expedition that long, but it's a viable siege strategy to pursue later. Alternatively, Mathilde just cuts the Dum waystone off at the source.

There is maybe one thing we could do. We're going to a lost hold. To aid or bury. Are there any Dwarven Priests of Gazul around?
[X] Consider the possibility that this hidden door is hidden not only from mortal but the divine. Ask for Dwarven Priests to pray to their Gods at the gates, tell them of what happened here. Consider throwing a prayer Gazul's way as well. Buried things and tombs as well as Aether realms are his job.

The trouble with that is that Gazul connecting to this thing might just jeportize the Underearth, but we should def get dwarven Priests if any are in the Expedition to say a prayer for any fallen/trapped.

The two things I can think of are:
  1. Check if Vlag's mines have actually been returned to reality.
  2. Check if the periphery of Vlag left behind could still be yanked back into Chaos.

I think he just said we would only need to hold for a few days until they disolve, the greater demons would prob only be a day at most

pummel here should be pommel.

For what we can do here and now: let's discuss the problem. What are our objectives with regard to Karak Vlag?
  • We need to let people know what the fuck is going on. This is already being done.
    • @BoneyM, is there a way for Mathilde to send a message to the Colleges with the packet Borek is talking about?
  • We want more information.
    • Are there spells we have in the toolkit of us and our local wizards that can gather information without melting anyone's brain?
    • I assume that if "stand there and stare at it with Magesight" were viable we'd already have that as an option, so let's leave that out of the discussion.
  • We need a clear path back when we return.
    • Is there anything we can do to set that up right now?
  • Reclaiming it eventually would be nice.
    • We can fuck around with the waystone at Dum, maybe, but that's not a here-and-now thing.
What am I missing?
We can go and see if its in the shadow realm.

I don't think we have dwarven priests with the expedition.

Don't think there's much we can or even should do without an army at our back, and a lot of study. If we mess with the waystone and associated spell, we might lock Vlag permanently into the warp, same if we shut down the dum waystone. Any action should only be taken once we have studied this enough that we have an idea of what it will do, rather than poking it blindly.

Also, if we do anything that requires us to stick around here to work our magic, it would give the slaneshi time to assemble a proper response force to us, and attack a second time. And given this leads directly to the warp, that could end with multiple greater demons attacking us. Even with a dragon that's not good odds for us.

Thanks.

OK, in that case, I think the best thing to do is to make sure the Colleges know 1) what we observed and 2) what we're thinking about trying when we get to Dum. We might not actually be able to mess with the waystone when we get there, but we should let them know.

[ ] Plan Watch For Falling Karaks
-[ ] Float the idea of cutting off the waystone power when you get to Dum and what the possible consequences of that are.
-[ ] Send a secure message to the Colleges explaining what we saw, what happened, and that we're considering shutting down the waystone power at Dum if we can.

@BoneyM, would something like this be viable, or is it impossible in some respect / overly micromanagey?
We can go and see if its in the shadow realm.
Do we know how to reach that on our own? I am skeptical.

Possible write-in.

[ ] No... and yes. Wait until back at the steam wagons and taking whatever measures to reduce chances of Chaos eavesdropping, then swear Borek, Gotrek, and Snorri to secrecy and explain Waystones to them. Explain that if you could shut off the Waystone in Karag Dum for a few days, it might force Karak Vlag back to reality and hold it there long enough for all the daemons inside to dissolve, instantly relieving any dwarven hold-outs. Perhaps this should be added to mission objectives?

@BoneyM would this be acceptable?
