Another possibility, could it be Malekith? a war with Marienburg could get Ulthuan involved, which is kind of his modus operandi.

guess there's only one way to know.

1. Malekith
2. Just regular bandits
3. Marienburg
4. The Skaven
5. An iceberg, somehow.
6. Disgruntled K8P radical saboteur.

Huh? Can someone point me to the post how we can do it? I still have twelwe pages to read... And want to go to bed today, not tomorrow.

Use the powerstone to generate enough Ulgu to cast an illusion. The illusion will be a voice loud enough to be heard on all the ship, and would tell the dwarfs to put out all the lights so Mathilde can find them with SoS.

Can people stop engaging in hyperbole based upon speculation?

If the force on the shore was regular bandits, then they probably were patsies... but that doesn't mean that they don't have useful information, or that pursuit is not a worthy option. (I just happen to think Mathilde is tireder than she recognizes*, and so should not be doing anything too stressful for a bit.)

*As was noted by Boney, fatigue can make it difficult to tell how fatigued you are.

Thanks for answer... Yeah, I don't think even more SoS is good idea right now, even without the Light Sourses Of Insta Death.

[X] Scour the river banks for anything the bandits left behind

Because it goes in right direction (increasing accuracy of the Grudge) at right speed (a detective's walk rather than a hunter's sprint).
I'll leave beast (or people) hunting to dwarves, who no doubt have experience in this.
Subtle clues and confusing conclusions? I am going to say Mathilde is going to end up useful, even if there's a whole squad investigating this scene.

Besides, it's clear that rangers get their own rolls (literal or metaphorical) here. They may not have Lord Magister bullshit on their side, but they can at least try.

We'd be dying with our Trancendental Boon unvoiced, not just unfulfilled.

Chances are Belegar would go Slayer, for not stopping us from taking the risk when fatigued.

We'd get a testament, we'd have to be an idiot to not include the boon.
Yeah, though he doesn't necessarily know that, I mean he might swear the oath right here, on the riverbank, for letting us continue to fatigue unto a very stupid death.
(The formal naming was meant to be at the Okral after party- which also looks a bit different now.)

I think speculation's been overestimating how much boom it takes for a sea mine to sink a ship, and underestimating just how much effort it'd take to put that mine in place and keep it there.

Assuming it was a mine and not a sabateur, either there should be heavy equipment or very obvious signs of the same on the shore, or we're looking at the work of a chaos-dwarf submarine. And there's probably still ways to find out if it was the sub, 'cause they wouldn't want to be next to the mine when it went off, either.

Belegar's orders were clear.

If we cannot save, we seek answers. Thus if we are following those orders, we should either save the rest of the Dawi on the ship or, if the risk is too high, seek the person who is ultimately responsible rather than the bandits for answers.
Actually, if we were to follow these orders by rote while also judging that we can't rescue more drowning Dwarves directly (due to risk or whatever other reason) then we should pick the guarding or Greenskin scouting options.

It occurs to me that just being able to tell the dwarves on shore where in the ship there are still potentially safe compartments might be a major help.

No, because Mathilde's talents inform her options, not sheer by roteability.

Greenskin are unlikely to come and the guards and other monitors can deal with greenskin and bandits more readily than an exhausted (read: not very capable of casting as per her own instructions to Pan) Mathilde can.

You can't just swear a Slayer oath on the spot there is a whole process.

I'm just now getting caught up from last night's update. Did anyone ask if the Dwarfs have a Morse-code equivalent? Mathilde could knock a message thru to the other side to have them douse the flames. That might eliminate the risks of further rescue .

Honestly, I'm just interested in how this will affect the dwarves' impression of Mathilde. Like, before she was a pretty big dwarf-friend with a lot of reputation and at least partial responsibility for reconquering Eight Peaks, but that was wartime heroism and a lot of what she did could only really be partially attributed to her, or only suspected to be her fault. But here she is directly saving some very important Dawi mostly selflessly—and it will definitely be seen that way if we do end up turning the Coin to the Protector—and maybe even helping find those responsible if we're lucky.

Yes it has been asked about a dozen times, it is a miner clan/guild only skill and the dwarfs on the ship are of the metalcrafting guild and hence don't know it.
