That rescue went far better than I thought it possibly could. I was wrong, it turned out to have been a good choice.
[X] Scour the river banks for anything the bandits left behind

Yeah, not running after the bandits in our current state. Even if they can give us useful information, I'm not sure we actually can reliably catch up to them with aching muscles, limited hearing and white film over our eyes.
The attackers are even further away now, than they were before we spent hours rescuing trapped dwarves. We'd be even more isolated if and when we caught up, tired and exhausted magically.
I have the impression that Substance of Shadow isn't one of Mathilde's 'natural' spells, drawing as it does on the shadowy side of Ulgu, so I think the chances are she's more drained than less.

So, with the lost time vs. the bandits, and the fatigue, we should stay close and do hopefully less stressful things.
Leave further search and rescue to the Barak Varr specialists at this stage, I think. Don't make yourself a casualty in trying to rescue others.

What if we'd been carrying some AV somehow? Could we have expended that to manage it?
[Yes, I'm wondering if we should add "rune-flask capable of safely containing a little AV" to our purchase list for situations like these]

AV isn't very helpful for mono-Wind casting because popping it gives you seven parts agitated and disruptful turbulence for one part useful fuel. It'd be a lot more helpful for High or Dark Magic.

So, just calculating something: according to @BoneyM rolls 8 dwarves out of 12 survived the explosion which mean 400 out of 600.
We saved 300 of them so 75% of all living dwarves on the monitor.

A stupid idea but…
@BoneyM What is the result of casting Melkoth's Mystifying Miasma while under the effects of Substance of Shadow? Could it create intangible mist that can pass through doors? And would the mist be sufficient to block light should there be any?

Dwarfs have a version of morse code don't they? Can't we use that to communicate with any potential survivors and tell them to remove the lights?

So on talking while underwater:

Make an airtight cone that Mathilde can hold. Put against the door, then cast sound inside the cone. The vibrations will pass through to the other side.

@BoneyM: Would this work?

Guys...these are all things we'd be spending AP to research, same as any other neat magic trick.
Not applicable on a scale of less than months

Got to say one thing about the current discussion, i can feel the desperation here, i can taste it.
There are lot of people who want, need, to save the dwarves that still might be trapped.
That's some engagement right there.
