Stepping into the path of the worst slayer is taking your life into your own hands.

I think what people are worried about is that, well, if the expedition goes well this time, then Gotrek won't get the Axe, and it'll just stay there doing nothing forever.

Don't we already have an enchanted torc that does this? The one we got in exchange for returning the Doomfire Ring we found?

We gave it away.

So we are going to want to say a prayer to the Ancestor Gods before we go in. Make it clear that we know it isn't our axe, but it would be nice if we could find it and bring it back to the dwarfs saving them alot of bother.

Why would we do that? Nobody outside of Karag Dum even suspects that the axe could be lost in the wastes and even they can't be sure its still there instead of having been taken by somebody else or indeed lost somewhere else.

I can't believe that's true as if she were a magister she'd have more access to college resources to push towards her project.
That's the thing; she wants to do this solo. No help from the college. If it was purely a case of getting the land up and running then yes, you'd be correct, but this is her pet project.

Can we please not obsess over the axe that has nothing to do with Mathilde's story or her themes and indeed is opposed them them. She hates the very concept of Slayerhood. If she found the axe she would probably be torn between giving it back to the dwarfs out of reverence to the ancestor gods and tossing in a volcano so as not to further increase the mystique of a self-destructive cultural institution.

For the record, there is absolutely zero possibility of being able to metagame Mathilde into stumbling across a legendary artefact she's never even heard of.
If this were a quest with an Azyr wizard protagonist, this sort of metagaming could be a fun way of dealing with the whole "omens and portents" thing.

Fortunately, we aren't a member of the Ce-lame-al College and don't have to go looking for such booby prizes.

EDIT: God I hate dealing with SV on mobile.

I'm not a fan of the enchantment class. I'd much rather engage in practical enchanting. That can lead to improvement as well after all. Said enchantment doesn't need to be personal equipment, we could create something for one of the other wizards for example.

I don't expect it to get much traction (my plans never do) but throwing my hat into the ring with a plan that helps Panormia out with her magister studies after 2 years rather than set up a target range.

I'm hoping the use of our oh dear tower and having Mathilde "I can sometimes grab other people's miscasts and turn them into fire" will help her make use of even the time her magic is weakened. It is essentially Classy Ciphers with Pan rather than a shooting range because I agree that a spy network that can have all it's mail read by anyone who breaks in or inserts a relatively low level mole isn't that useful a spy network.

[X] Plan Classy Ciphers and Jade Magisters
-[x] Contains one Overwork action
-[x] MAX: Study an artefact: Captured Clan Moulder devices (as yet uninspected)
-[X] JOHANN: Have him teach Adela what he knows of engineering.
-[X] DUCK: Panoramia's about ready to test for Magister, but she's putting it off because she doesn't have a lot of free time to prepare. Work with her to help make the most of every spare minute.
-[X] EIC: Have the Hochlander introduce a series of ciphers to the EIC to allow it to communicate internally in much greater security.
-[x] SERENITY: Write a paper: The We book (1/2)
-[x] PENTHOUSE: Have a tower built atop Karag Nar: -100gc for 1 room, bonus to room's purpose.
-[x] Collate useful information on the northernmost Dark Lands from Qrech and Lady Magister Grey.
-[x] Attend classes at the Grey College:
--[x] Anti-Chaos Training
--[x] Runes and Runecraft
--[x] Enchanting
-[x] Study an artefact: Ranald's Coin
--[x] COIN: The Gambler

[] Plan Coin Study and Preparation
-[] MAX: Study an artefact: Captured Clan Moulder devices (as yet uninspected)
-[] JOHANN: Study an artefact: Lighting mechanism, stolen from Clan Skryre. (shared project with Adela)
Is this a good idea? Adela was specifically hoping to work on with (College Rep 150?!?!) Mathilde Weber... she might not be grateful for being shunted off to work on a paper with Johann?
Adela passes on any claim to any of the Queekish writings, instead opting to share the credit of the lighting mechanism with you. You offer to make it hers alone, but she declines, even when you make it clear it could take some time for you to be able to investigate it. Apparently she thinks having your name and hers on the same paper will be good for her career.

As for the last update...
You'd explained the operation of the Menhir to King Belegar, and though his expression spoke volumes, he refrained from commenting until Kragg, Thorek, and Gunnars had all given it a thorough inspection, and all had declared it free of corruption. "I hate this," he finally says, glaring at the pool meant to be filled with heartsblood. "I hate it almost as much as I hate the idea of an unchecked Ice Dragon. Good work. I'll have it secured within the Citadel, and hope it never sees use."
[How much does Belegar hate the Blood Menhir of Dragonform, Roll: 90-10(Expert Reassurance)=80]
[How much does Belegar hate the idea of an Ancient Ice Dragon trashing his shiny new Karak, Roll: 61+20(Houseproud)=81]

Good job, Loremaster Weber!

I don't actually think we need the ciphers this turn - the brand new apparatus isn't going to be suborned in 6 months, so we can do it next turn instead - but I do like the Panoramia option.

All river crossings are at bridges or major ferries, and the entire route up until the veer north at the end is along established roads.

"To the Realm of Chaos." Sounds Delightful! :V

Hmm. Is the Hell Pit on the map perhaps the Moulder stronghold Qrech is from?

Also definitely picking up a strong 'Skull' theme.

It's very likely to lead to nothing, Mathilde doesn't understand the other winds of magic or enchanting from their perspective and indeed shouldn't really. I suspect we'll get nothing from this without an 80+ roll and even then I'm not expecting much. Teclisian college magic from the human perspective is to limited at current to make use of AV directly.

Originally, yes. From what he's said, he spent most of his life somewhere underneath the Great Skull Land in a constant game of raid and counterraid with the Chaos Dwarves.
Even that's useful information, as in the Expedition could be preyed on from below by Skaven as well as Chaos Dwarves, and whatever inspires the strong skull motif. If the relevant action wins out we'll find out more, I hope.
