As someone in favour of building the Library of Dwarfxandria, *wince.* That trade vault undoubtedly has a wealth of historical information in it, and we're going to lose most of it.
Oh yeah, going to bed now but something jogged my memory.
Anyone interested in this option? Belegar's been having trouble hunting down the piracy targeting trade in the area, since dwarf ironclads are amazing at fighting off pirates but kind of suck at FINDING pirates, while merchants are unfortunately all too good at finding pirates with no ability to fight them off.
Investing in "No fuck off bandits/pirates" should be good for our merchants, and all those migrants heading down to settle, rather than get mugged.
I believe folk are a bit wary of giving the EIC a military. They've already got a monopoly and despite our control this might promote a rather dangerous corporate culture of rattling sheaths at competitors in order to have their will done.
Ea-Nasir was the name a copper merchant of Babylon almost four thousand years ago. We know of him because of a carved tablet with a complaint that his copper was impure.
Not just that. The guy had a room of his house full of letters accusing him of scamming people. And this was a time in which you had to pay someone to carve a letter onto a rock. He was the first dishonest merchant known to history.

I want to use the EIC as an intel network, not to fix all the problems related to trade. Let the dwarves figure something out with gyrocopter patrols and river gunboats; fighting piracy isn't our priority.
[] Plan: Save the History! also AV and Job I guess...
-[][MAX] See if you can find more Queekish within those books: All Under-Karagril Clan Moulder books not bound in leather or written on vellum or parchment. Awaiting translation.
-[][JOHANN] Study an artefact: Breathing apparatus, stolen from Clan Skryre
-[][DUCK] Johann's investigation into the ratling gun has hit a wall. See if you can help
-[][EIC] Put policies in place that local news should be collected and sent to you (rumour mill).
-[] Seek to build a stronger rapport with Qrech, and provide enough sources of mental stimulation that you can turn your attention elsewhere.
-[] Try to convince him outright to teach you spoken Queekish.
--[] Deceiver: Continue with the Gambit that teaching you Queekish continues to cause discontent in the Grey Order and of course the Grey Order itself already has Queekish...
-[] Record all the entries of the Grand Urbaz vaults and select a good-quality example of each minting to save from the smelters.
-[] Investigate the exact circumstances required to induce a transformation.
-[] Wolf is fully grown and a Very Good Boy. Train him. (increases his intelligence, he may learn to speak Praestantia) (Overwork)
-[][PENTHOUSE] Have a gyrocopter landing pad built into your balcony.
-[][SERENITY] Brief observations on Eshin Sorcery (FRESH)
-[][COIN] The Deceiver: Skaven Gambit
I believe folk are a bit wary of giving the EIC a military. They've already got a monopoly and despite our control this might promote a rather dangerous corporate culture of rattling sheaths at competitors in order to have their will done.
So, haven observed the past few pages, I've solidified my plan (has overwork)
[X] Plan Dictionaries now, powerstones for AV stuff and jazz
-[X] MAX: Receive dictation: Queekish-Reikspiel Dictionary Actions 1 + 2
-[X] JOHANN: Study an artefact: Unknown black gem, stolen from the Skaven.
-[X] DUCK: Work with Panoramia for her to finally get around to investigating the greenskin mushrooms she found.

-[X] TASK: Seek to build a stronger rapport with Qrech, and provide enough sources of mental stimulation that you can turn your attention elsewhere.

Like I've been saying, all non-mathilde actions involving skraven language and tech are done better after the dictionaries are made, the gambit I'm suggesting does not need a lie, so that frees us up for the gambler
Of course, I am an indecisive individual, so I've made a second, equally awesome plan of awesome where we don't study powerstones, but instead get a Runelord to check out our AV for us (and I move the coin to that action)
[X] Plan Dictionaries now, Runelord checks out AV stuff and jazz

Obviouly, voting for either of, or both, of these plans is an excellent way of demonstrating that you are genuinely wonderful individuals and also here is a link to a the most adorable otter vid ever:
Remember mathilde spent three months there because she had literally nothing else to do. Panoramia literally can't leave for more than a month if she wants to avoid agricultural collapse. She'd just rush back, take the exams, and then hurry back before her fileds die.
Hmm. True true. Could hire a magister for 5 favour and let her wander off for 6 months to really get into it. Surely she's had plenty of time to accrue a pool of favors by writing handfuls of earthshattering papers in between staving off an eco-system crumbling! Right? Right!?
The wealth is nothing short of amazing, but it looks like the Undumgi pikes and Runic Hammers are all the runic gear Karak Eight Peaks has. So I'll not be seeing my dreams of all of Clan Huzkul armed with runeweapons.
On the bright side, the "hire every mercenary this side of Cathay" plan Belegar had back when we were planning out the first stage of the reclamation of Eight Peaks just became a perfectly valid option. And there's still 6,000 more silversteel pikes available for if/when the Undumgi expand their ranks.
We didn't take Polyglot, so I remain steadfast in my opinion that the marginal gain of learning spoken Queekish is very much not worth the AP invested into learning it and then subsequently teaching it to others, and will be voting for no plans that involve it.
Theoretically, if we drop a research action before the six turns time limit is up, there may be a way to squeeze this in. Or AV becomes our job, alternatively speaking, which would almost ensure that we should be able to shake an AP loose.
It does, however, highlight the Research vs Preservation Dilemna though posed by the Great Library and Research Institute issue, and quite possibly a preview of what it concretely means to dilute the resources of that Boon over these two distinct if related activities, if an institution vote passes.
Also, I'm definitely going to vote for this:
[ ] Plan Dictionaries now, powerstones for AV stuff and jazz
I foresee that there will be very many uses for Power Stones beyond AV. Judging by the Eye of Gazul, I suspect this is a very foundational class to take for any of our intellectual ambitions or grand magitek infrastructure projects on the level of Eye of Gazul we might embark on in the future (and I think we would almost certainly embark on them!). We are going to need this sooner or later, so we might as well do something as fundamental as powerstones now, before AP crunch starts stacking up as this new arc progresses. Remember, the sun relocating function of our Tower of Gazul runs on powerstones, so it sounds like a very good idea to learn more about making powerstones given the centrality of this weapon to Karak security.
It feels like something of an abandonment to you, but the We have the means at their disposal to take charge of their own education, and purchase books and the services of teachers as they see fit. They are sentient beings - or, arguably, one single sentient being - and they now have the freedom to chart their own course in life.

Max is good at writing papers. he can help clear the backlog.
The breathing apparatus could help save lives. both in mining, war, and other applications where air quality is either poor or non-existent.
Johann has been a great help to us. we spent a few actions helping max hunt from a gyro. let's help Johann out now. besides, it will probably make future research easier.
there aren't really any bad options offered for the EIC. Auditors will help make sure we don't lose money.
free paper. it's fresh so we get a bonus to it.
a gyropad. who wouldn't want a gyropad... but really I don't care that much. it can change if a better option with a reason it's better comes along.
A prisoner that isn't trying to escape is a lot easier to control and farther manipulate.
learning to better use our sword. it needs to happen.
snek research. pushing it forwards.
Wolf is best puppers. why wouldn't we want best puppers to talk back?
There were five vaults and I rolled a d100 for each - Hall of Ghosts was single digit, Karag Rhyn civilian vaults were in the teens, and Vault of Ancestors and the Treasure Vaults were each thirty-something. I rolled another d100 for each just for a high-low for money versus useful goods, and both resulted in money, which became valuable but functionally useless antiques for the Vault of Ancestors. Then the Grand Urbaz got the natural 100, so I rolled a d6 for what that could be in the thread. 3 or 4 would have resulted in me digging out the Tomb King army book and picking something, 5 would have had me generate a list of possible topics for B O O K, and 6 would have been one of those 'sit out on the balcony and think for a while' situations.
