The fief is cute. It deserves a headpat. It is not important enough to deserve AP, fortunately, giving it headpats does not cost AP.

[X] King Belegar, to try to get some idea of where he's at with his crisis of faith.
[X] Prince Kazrik, as he tries to convince Nuln to let him make them fabulously rich.
[X] Gunnars, to see if you can pierce his terse nature.
[X] Titus Muggins, who's returned to farming with every avenue of attack defended.
[X] Francesco Caravello, proud leader of the Undumgi
[X] Oswald Oswaldson, newly-minted Chief Bombardier of the Undumgi
[X] Sir Ruprecht Wulfhart, as the new home of the Winter Wolves takes shape.
[X] Roswita, as she rides out the chaos of the influx of Battle Wizards.
[X] Empress 'Heidi', to be present for the birth of her child
[X] Check in on your fief in Stirland.

On both cases i voted (iirc, you know how fail human memory is) tactically to the only option that had a nope component that would win. I don't think i'm the only one. It's not that the romantics are not a majority, but the aromantics have no confidence in their numbers to win without tactics. It's easy to sell 'maybe but not now' to casuals.

And now, because we have clearly reached Shitposting O'Clock, I will list all of our social action options and how I believe they would react to Mathilde's stunt where she shot herself in the hand to make a point to the skaven.
  • King Belegar: *sighs heavily* "Zhufokri."
  • Prince Gotri: *shiny eyes* "She's so radical!"
  • Princess Edda: *narrowly resists fainting*
  • Prince Kazrik: *faints dead away*
  • Gunnars: *is stoic in Dwarvish*
  • Titus Muggins: "...do tallfolk not know to shoot the skaven?"
  • Francesco Caravello: "DO IMPERIALS NOT KNOW TO SHOOT THE SKAVEN?"
  • Oswald Oswaldson: *gets overly enthusiastic about intimidating prisoners and shoots himself in the hand too*
  • Soizic: "You have shown your enemy that you are not to be trifled with! You are worthy of that title of Dame."
  • Sir Ruprecht Wulfhart: *quietly resolves to continue not pissing off the Greys*
  • Algard: *sighs nostalgically* "Oh, to be young and interrogating prisoners solo again."
  • Roswita: "Sorry, what just happened? I was thinking about reconquering Sylvania."
  • Kasmir: "You healed yourself afterwards? Wimp."
  • Anton: *rolls several natural 100s, convinces Shallya to personally kiss Mathilde's ouchie and make it better*
  • Wilhelmina: *yelling at her sons* "AND THIS IS WHY NONE OF YOU IS WORTHY TO INHERIT THE EIC!"
  • Empress 'Heidi': "Yeah, OK, I see why He likes you."

Some of us voted to marry for love in the hopes that we would develop chemistry with him
The very fact you say that acknowledges that there was a notable lack of chemistry with Anton
I don't know about you, but the idea of getting with someone you don't have chemistry with in the hopes that chemistry will manifest is not a sound endeavor

Not that Mathilde would have been unhappy with him necessarily, but they did not have a relationship conducive to romance, Anton's half hearted proposal was more out of desperation to make all the offers he was getting stop

:( I knooowww. Its such a shame. I like that we have social turns now though!:) Friendships are relationships too and I'm always happy to see Mathilde interacting with and bouncing of off other characters.
... there there? *pat pat*

[X] Anton, to see how his firearm factory is going.
[X] Wilhelmina, to see how she's going when she's not a terrifying financial juggernaut.
[X] King Belegar, to try and get some idea of where he's at with his crisis of faith.
[X] Check in on your fief in Stirland.
[X] Prince Gotri, who is enhancing the underground defences of the Karak.
[X] Yes. What better place to burn armies from than the skull of a dragon?

Why are we going to check on our fief?
To get closure on a dangling setting thread from three in-quest years ago. We have literally no idea what has been happening there after we invested all that money. One of the most common questions people ask when new to the quest is "but what about our fief, are we ever going to check on it?"

So we're checking on it.

Behold it is I, Mathilde Weber, the truest dwarf friend and girlfriend to all! Please join the queue and approach the dragon throne. Please keep the line moving so you can receive your allotted half a microsecond of affectionate glances. I'm Very Busy.

Romance Solved.

Ah yes, the Morathi solution. Our kid ends up being the main love interest because they'll be the only one we consistently spend AP on.

Honestly, we really ought to look into which wind is most likely to end up with Chronomancy when used in combination with Dhar. There can surely be nothing more powerful in this world than the ability to gain more AP!

Speaking of, do you think any High Elf ever tried to use High Magic tongs to manipulate True Dhar? Seems possible in theory at least. I wonder how that turned out.

[X] Algard, reporting the Skaven Civil War in person instead of in writing.
[x] Barak Varr, to watch the progress of the canal.
[X] Roswita, as she rides out the chaos of the influx of Battle Wizards.
[x] Soizic, sparring partner and possible 'sparring partner' of your duckling Hubert.

[X] No. Mathilde's dragon skull chair belongs only to Mathilde.

A kid we barely know who is viscerally afraid of us. That is not a romance prospect. At all.
Okay, not quite true. She is probably just a little younger than us (though I think we can actually calculate the age), and she's not afraid of us, I don't think, as we've moved over into 'one of the good ones' (yes, that's a racist trope, but it's also one of the first steps towards losing a prejudice). She could have been a really interesting romance trope, as someone who wronged us getting over her prejudices, but there are a few problems:
First, we were into her dad. That kills off most of my shipping right away, and I'm a rampant shipper. It could be done well, but I doubt it.
Second, the relationship is unequal, as we have basically done stuff for her, and she would have to do something to endear her to us. This hasn't happened yet, but it could.

While I'm at it, here's a look at the other romance options:
Dwarves in general: Do they have a sex drive? Any romantic desire outside of duty? I don't know, but Edda and Kazrik seem to say they do.

Belegar: More of a Bro, in my opinion.
Kragg: More of a collegue.
Edda and Kazrik: Taken
Gotri: Needs more screentime. He's radical, which helps.

Wizards:
Ducklings: We call them ducklings, so probably not.
Maximilian: Seems childish.
Johann: Would be promising, except the first impression was terrible.
Panoramia: Will cheerfully murder sentients with plants. Has a handle on us doing grey wizard shenanigans. BUT, ran in terror when we accidentally threatened her plants. This is the most likely in my opinion.
Other Grey Wizards: Maybe some room here. Maybe the Grey College has a single's mixer? It would be a good idea to make that mandatory, as "the ones who should don't, the ones who do shouldn't" is the current status of grey wizard reproduction.

Non-Wizard Humans and Halflings In K8P:
Not much screen time for any yet. We do have some WOG that Oswald tried flirting with us.

Humans in Stirland:
Abelhelm: dead
Anton: Said Nope, find your love.
Wilhelmina: Didn't seem to be any interest their.
Roswita: See above.
'Heidi': Having an affair with the Emperor's wife. Genius idea!

She's canonically six years younger than we are, and she wasn't so much "prejudiced against wizards" as "terrified of wizards." She still kind of is. Remember, during the rampart scene in the last social turn, she avoided touching us at any point when handing the flask back and forth.
Magic Phobia: Roswita fears that the presence of a Wizard is an enormous and constant danger.

I really like the idea of Algard, partly because there are undoubtedly entire subgenres of dwarf romance novels about becoming enamored with the grandmaster of your guild.

God, please no, let's *not* even attempt to dive into horrendously inequal superior/subordinate relationships please? I mean, this applies to a lot of the suggestions in the thread lately, yours was just the most recent when i checked on the thread so sorry for picking you out of the crowd :V

But no, like...i'll be frank and say that if they threadway back when had voted to actively pursue abelheim, and gotten anything going while mathilde was still working directly for him, that would have most likely killed my interest in the quest. Please, just...stick to people that aren't either our bosses or our subordinates (or at least are ones we could theoretically remove from that position before actively pursuing a relationship; for example, while i personally wouldn't ship mathilde with johann, he is in a situation where we could switch our professional relationship from 'he works directly for us' to 'he works in K8P as a wizard so we have some veto power over some stuff, but not anywhere near as much power imbalance in a hypothetical relationship, especially if mathilde makes sure to establish professional boundaries while doing so')

That is why I ship Johann and Panoramia but not Max or the Ducklings. Also Johann being a Magister, and possibly a more senior one than us, makes it a bit less skeevy.
