what I want to stand for is filling out knowledge of Moderately Complicated tier Ulgu spells at the college to get another +1 Magic, and then grabbing Shadow Knives from the Fiendishly Complex list.
All but this one, we don't need Shadow of Death.
U / Shadow of Death: Makes you seem fearsome to all those who look upon you for one minute.
But the real jewel of your learning comes when Magister Patriarch Algard passes you in a corridor, turns back, and asks you if you've learned Shadow of Death. "No," you say. Good, he replies, because you won't need it.
Especially with our upgraded Terror shadow tendrils!
Maybe we pick up Universal Confusion instead.

Anyway, we already have those eggs from Barak Varr. Our Smoke Knights can be mounted on dinosaur-back, no problem.
I want one for Mathilde tho.

It got tweaked, actually. So we need to learn another 7 spells to get the remaining +1 magic from the ulgu list.

Including the superfluous one, unfortunately.

Shadow Knives is either meh or ok, depending on how strong it hits. If it's S3, then it's considerably less appealing.

It's also very short in range, so we still need guns. Lots of guns.

Hmm. well, you can't be an Elector Count without a Runefang. There are two without provinces right now, Grudge Settler (Solland's) and the one that belonged to Drakwald, although what it was called I don't know. We could go on a nice sword heist after this :V
We could go kill Kazrak while we're at it, earn some cred with our new neighbor Toddy boy.

Actually, has he been born yet?

Salamander chariots could be quite chic
That sounds like a fantastic argument to not have them, lest the bane of fashion rear its head once more. :V

Ah, thanks. Toddy would be 24 then.
Also, Karl should be alive according to OTL. I want to say I saw something about him not having been born yet (or maybe at all) by word of QM though.
Funny thing but Mathilde is around five years older than Toddy since she was born in 2450. Its kinda a wonder to realize she'll be older than an Elector(or Elector heir), though whether she'll live long enough to see the current generation pass on to their heirs is very up in the air.

Tbh, I don't think she will. She's skilled and has a fair bit of luck on her side (thanks Ranald) but her reaction to danger appears to very much be "Ooh, let's jump in headfirst". Eventually I suspect she'll run into trouble she can't deal with.

Then warhammer is very much a world of 'that which does not kill me makes me stronger' so the more things she lives through the harder she will be to kill as a general trend.

Well, it's hardly her fault. Quest's tend towards the foolhardy, in my experience.
A fair, and entirely true point. And of course we're always just hoping the dice like her enough.

Eh. I mean, to some degree I think that's true, but at the same time, not every fight or battle Mathilde gets in is going to make her stronger in any way. It's only really major events that'll do that, and it's entirely possible she'll accidentally blow herself up trying to practice magic one day. As always, we just have to hope the dice are helpful.

Wait a minute.

Maybe the wiki is just wrong, but it says Karl was saved by Wood Elves as a babe in 2470, and the Empress died around 2478.

Either Karl is supposed to be in his pre-teens right about now or I've made a mistake somewhere.

I think that, if at all possible, I'd trade our lustrian eggs for a griffon egg, preferably a double-headed one (get a friend Amber to help pick, if it's "luck"), and get some Amber help in raising it.

While I love our horse, and its pseudo ward-save is very good, being actually mounted means +1 armor (+2 if we put barding on it), not being subject to Killing Blow, and actually riding an incredibly murderous beastie (as in, WS 5, S6, A4 as baseline). Oh, and it flies, I bet anyone would absolutely love a chance at riding a flying mount.

It's a nice incentive to figure out the Indefatigable enchant, too.

No, I'm not jealous of Esbern and Seija, why do you ask?

For a weapon, definitely get a dwarf one, because theirs are plain and simply the best. I know it's better to say something general instead of picking outright, but I'd dearly love Kragg's "hits at S10" rune, especially if we can pair it off with two Runes of Striking. Who needs fancy "automatically bypass armor and wound" runes, if you can just take a good ol' "hits like a fucking cannon" one?

Triple Rune of Cleaving is also good (Killing Blow, +1S, AP); Master Rune of Smiting (D6 wounds) and Cleaving x2 (+1S, AP) or Striking x2 (+1 WS, re-roll misses) or Fury and Cleaving (+1A, AP); Master Rune of Snorri (hit on 2+) and Cleaving x2 (+1S, AP) or Might x2 (Against T5+, double strenght, D3 wounds).

Huh, yeah, that is the date the wiki gives. Did we actually not kill Karl? Because according to the wiki, he was born the year this quest started.

Probably. Granted if she lives through the rest of this Expedition, which has a good chance of happening what with it being over real soon, and we actually settle down and start consolidating all the Stuff we've gained and work on arcane research then she'll probably be safe enough to live for another 4 or 5 years(so 8 to 10 normal turns). More if we decide to spend longer studying stuff or shorter if the Empire bubbles over into full on Oh Fuck Civil War.

Tbf, it's also very much a setting where if you're too much of a force for good- all sorts of things will start trying to gank you just after your moment of triumph.

For example Valten and Mandred.

Or unless the hold is attacked. Well, more attacked than it definitely will be, what with the 'still surrounded by enemies' thing this place will have going on for a century or two. Or we could be lucky and have really good research rolls. or explode from bad research rolls. That's the fun of letting the dice decide the future.

Yeah didn't really consider the hold being attacked I will admit, but I was including bad magic oopsies in the "probably safe" part. Though lol, a little morbid but if we build a nice base in K8P it'd work out as a pretty nice tomb or memorial site(if her body isn't recoverable) for Mathilde.
