Admittedly, burniness is possibly more likely to drive the Greenskins into the Caldera regardless of the defenders, as it's a relative "safe" place.

And to be fair, Mathilde is only a single person. That's not a small number of greenskins or area to cover.

Colour me unconvinced. Needs a very very high proof.
in real life, yeah, but this is the Old World, where Hell is reachable on foot from Norway, mushrooms try to fight the whole world, and the moon turns you into a furry.

and given that "Fused Beer Kegs" are a bombardment option in TW: WH, which is Canon Enough, id say thats enough evidence that dwarf beer can be used as an incendiary and/or explosive

Any plan waiting overnight risks splintering our forces, as Codrins' mercenaries reflect on why they've not been paid for taking a watchtower, the East gates, and two mountains.

All that being said however, we don't want to wait until dawn.

Because the Skaven are going to see that vulnerability too and want to capitalize on it. It'll be much better for us if we can scare them by hitting the Citadel first

Alright, here's my idea for a plan.

[] The Beast Awakens
-[] Have the bolt throwers and grudge throwers position to cover the path up from the Caldera
-[] Position ourselves at the lip of the Caldera and cast Sound to imitate the roaring of a large beast coming from a central location amongst the Greenskin Factions
-[] Repeat until the Greenskins investigate or flee the area.
-[] Once Greenskins investigate or flee, signal for the attack to begin
-[] When necessary cast Sound to imitate the roaring of a large beast to keep the Greenskins focused inside the Caldera instead of the Citadel.
-[] Should repeat casting become too tiring, have Seija take over the casting of Sound for a small time.

The idea here is to have the simplest methods of distracting the Greenskins from the Citadel. And that is to create enough sounds to have them either looking for the source or fighting other factions they come across.

With Seija also capable of casting Sounds, we can tag team to ensure that neither of us get too tired from repeated casting, but we would only cast it when needed to keep the Greenskins Focused on the Caldera. Have the artillery set up just in case, however, some Greenskins decide to come up and play at the citadel.

Honestly, if we didn't drink last evening, we could have used the morning to soften up the Citadel or Caldera ahead of time by going in with the Rangers. Oh well, what's done is done.

@BoneyM
Is it possible to fill path to Citadel with caltrops using artillery? Do we have enough Black Lotus or time to grow it to make caltrops poisoned?

how are you getting this? Codrin literally assured us they'd be sticking around.
"Will any object to extending the goals of the Expedition?" Ulthar asks.

"Will they?" King Belegar repeats. You shake your head, as do the Dwarves present, as do the Knights after the moment of thought. The subtler turn their eyes towards Codrin, those less so their entire heads, and he's looking thoughtful.

"Yesterday," he says slowly, "I would have been less sure. But today those under my command have either victory to keep them warm or shame burning in their gut. Feed them well today and fill tonight with ale and song, and tomorrow they'll march with you against any enemy."

"That," says King Belegar with a smile, "is something we can do."

Timed blasting charges for a specific moment is too exacting and likely to go wrong. Just go with a regular bombardment with incendiaries around a general time.

I'm talking about timing the firing of them.
Ale and wine are poor accelerants.

They're anti-accelerants.
Speaking of which, again, I recommend just incendiaries. Akin to the stuff that was used to bombard Minas Tirith, flaming rocks or whatever. Timed blasting charges seems too risky.

Fair enough, I'll say to leave it to the dwarfs.

I think Ritualist was for doing the big R rituals, like Impossible March of the Damned Soldier. For more mundane ritual casting she can do that, and did that to camouflage the hoard in Karag Nar not too long ago.
Which as I quoted used a roll and Burning Shadows is Moderately Difficult. It's just too much of a risk with the wait.

how about this, then: we stand on top of karag nar and use our lens cantrip to burn grobi like ants with a magnifying glass

Yeah, the risk of waiting is just too great, between other enemies coming to take the weakened Citadel, the entire situation with the Citadel changing, or the mercenaries leaving.

@BoneyM, I'd like to suggest that you replace the term "ritual casting" with "channelling", the word used to describe the same thing in WFRP (both 2e and 4e) - taking more time to cast a more powerful spell with greater risk of something going wrong. It'd make it more distinct from big R Rituals and so less easy to confuse between the two.

Well Alratan has made a plan.

Ah I missed that.

Well then my vote is sorted. This is right up our ally has the most effect on the campaign we can have whilst reducing the danger to us and increasing safety for every one else.

Any way we can trick the defenders into chasing illusionary Skaven as a distraction to cover the dwarven advance?

Edit: out of date

[] Plan Burning Shadows
-[] Sell Belegar on the value of a day's preparation and rest time for the human mercenaries to get over their lack of sleep and hangovers.
-[] Spend a night before the assault hunting down and assassinating any surviving shamans. Make sure to sleep the day before.
-[] Mathilde infiltrates into position to be down sun of the Citadel and arranges for the dwarves to attack at the local dawn, when the sun becomes visible above the eastern peaks. She then times the conclusion of a casting of Burning Shadows to complete moments after the sun is visible and the Citadel's shadow is cast. Ritual cast if Mathilde is confident she can do so reliably.
-[] Scatter Black Lotus poisoned caltrops on the path to delay greenskins and get them stuck in the Burning Shadow longer.
-[] Organise to have indirect fire of dwarven catapults firing whatever the engineers think will cause the most havoc arcing over the Citadel into Grobi down timed to a few moment after the Burning Shadows is cast.

There's another problem though. Skaven, other greenskins, etc. The Citadel's defenses are too weak. Others could try and take it, too much could change in a whole day.

You seem to misunderstand, the defenders aren't a major issue, we can overrun them easily enough. It's keeping hundreds, thousands of greenskins right outside the citadel from flooding in when they hear a battle in it and the Greenskin defenders of the Citadel aren't able or willing to stop them.

I can't persuade you that anything waiting overnight is a bad idea?
The battle is already scheduled for this afternoon, specifically to give recovery time.

I don't think so and if the skaven attack the citadel before we do we can third party them. Nothing would be worse for the skaven than getting assaulted in the rear when they're making a move on the citadel if they actually do that then we're benefiting massively as all the leadership would be in easy head cap range.

I'm starting to sense that the vote is going to boil down to either to a plan that can be enacted today or a multi-day plan that requires a one day delay at minimum. It's going to be the key issue of contention for the next 24 hours, and we might be seeing a third narrow vote in a row and a fourth narrow vote in five votes.
