[X] State Influence
[X] Do Nothing about the Imperial Cult

Prevent Crazies, Discord Worship, Sombra Worship and any other....icky things as needed

And if people want to worship us good for them, that's their choice, discouraging this would only likely make them worship us more and in secret or something even weirder.

You guys are acting weirdly panicky considering this is MLP.

Freedom of religion, within legal laws, seems a good idea as it would make us more likely to get immigrants of other countries and religions not to mention would help with allowing our varied peoples a bit more joy.

Not to mention state influenced religion is a few short steps from controlled religion and a few generations down the line could end with our empire as a fascist nation.

I am really hoping to avoid that

EDIT:

Common sense that such things would be outlawed. Even in the usa, a nation practically founded on religious freedom, has laws for the formation of new religions to prevent harmful ones from taking root.

[X] State Influence: While you don't really like the idea of the government having direct control over religious institutions, it's clear that there needs to be some kind of authority to prevent sectarian conflict between the different faiths that exist within your Empire. As such, while you shan't have full control over the various religious institutions, you will exert some influence and control whenever it becomes necessary to do so, using your authority as Emperor.

[X] Do Nothing about the Imperial Cult: Maybe you're of two minds about your most fanatically loyal subjects. Perhaps you don't want to risk being misunderstood or accused of manipulating such vulnerable people. Or maybe you just want to see how things play out without your influence. Regardless of your motives, you'll leave the Cult to its own devices for now, neither encouraging nor discouraging it.

It gives us a way to output more of our resources for more gain, plus I'd prefer that we have some hand in things in case maliciousness sneaks in.

I would like to preemptively be involved so we're better able to be ahead of any issues.
Easy solution. Put in laws that make religions with certain practices (for example worshiping genocidal entities) illegal and that should make most insane cults die off fairly quickly.

Also most people seem to assume the law doesn't ALREADY have it written that things like living sacrifices, unchecked magic usage, etc are illegal. It is and if it ISN'T then some heads are going to roll.

EDIT: It seems @Questor was kind of vague and didn't really explain things clearly. I am pretty sure that even with religious freedom discord worship and such would still be illegal due to it's practices and it's effects on their followers. Any chance you could clear that up questor? It would probably need to be threadmarked for a lot of the people to even see it though.

FINALLY! someone reasonable!

Ok, that's maybe an exaggeration, but really, it's not like we would allow chaos cultists, blood sacrifices and OBVIOUSLY EVIL "RELIGIONS" to openly practice their "faith" in our kingdom, even if we went for total religious freedom.

I mean, do you think that just because we allow people to freely choose their own faith we would allow them to, say, openly pray for Sombra's return? Or, even worse, ACTUALLY WORK TOWARDS IT? Or that we would allow worship (as an example) of a slaver god?

No matter what option we choose, we're still the emperor. We're still the law, we still control police and armies, and while we're willingly leaving matter of faith up to every individual, that's obviously limited by the need and wish for peace and harmony within our lands.

Now, that's not to say that choosing the influence/control religions options are wrong or stupid...but if you choose them, you should choose them because that's the kind of quest you want to play, because that's something you'd like to read about! Not out of worry that if you do not we'll have chaos, anarchy and evil religions spreading across our empire!

Personally I'm fine with leaving the religious elements as something in the background, but that's just my opinion.

Still, if you vote to add piety, please do it for the right reason (that you would find it fun/interesting) instead of the wrong one (because you're worried of what will happen otherwise)

[X] Do Nothing about the Imperial Cult

[X] Total Religious Freedom

Yeah, I think this needs a confirmation vote as it seems a lot of people have misinterpreted the vote and are assuming we would have no say at all despite our incredible spy network and sheer influence and authority.

From what I can tell one person wanted imperial control over all the religion and then claimed that if we didn't then we would have to deal with cults that do evil stuff. People saw that, misinterpreted the vote, and panicked.

Which is why I really think @Questor needs to give a bit of elaboration as to what each ACTUALLY means and maybe give a confirmation vote to be safe because there is a lot of frankly weird panic about this that really should be cleared up

No need to complicate things, it literally says in the options what each vote brings.
Yes, however people are mistaking religious freedom with allowing harmful and negative cults to pop up. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.

And it really doesn't. It has flavor text and gives a vague idea which is why people are misinterpreting it so easily.

people who are misinterpreting this probably have not really read the bit in the end

Total Religious Freedom is the "secular" path, in that Piety actions won't become a thing. Your people will practice various religions, but aside from providing flavor text or context for future events, they won't have much of an impact upon the narrative or mechanics of the quest. This is the option for those who like the quest as it is and don't want to add piety as a category.

There is already an explanation for every option at the end of the update. It clearly states what every action does.

Any explanation would end up mostly repeating these parts.

..And the annoying thing is that this explanation is probably necessary anyway, because many voters won't read these posts after they voted, and would need a threadmark to actually catch their attention...

Personally, it seems kind of needed when the majority vote is driven by fear. That just sucks any fun out of a quest ya know? Better to just make a short blurb, threadmark it, and have a confirmation vote saying "Knowing this do you still want this or would you rather something else?" And give a short, maybe 30 minute, vote.

After all it is never good when an entire vote is chosen simply of fear of the imagined consequences rather than what they would find the most interesting. Tends to say bad things about the quest's status after all.

Or you know most of player base knows exactly what it wants expect one or two comments here and there.

[X] Encourage the Imperial Cult

I figure if we're getting into religion AT ALL we will need loyalists on our side. Doubly so if we go theocracy - it's always better to be divine descendants than random good rulers under that paradigm.

So while I choose middle road on mechanics of Piety, I do endorse the cult.

If it is what they want then they should have no problem with a short blurb to inform them and clear away any misconceptions that may be there.

And if it IS what they want then the results won't change.

Except we will just delay the update, especially if we go with reconfirmation vote.

Edit :
Basically everything we need to know is explained to us in the votes and is in the last update so basically it is threadmarked , those that have their doubts can easily go back and reread the votes without QM needing to repeat it every couple of times and call snap votes .

30 minutes isn't enough for reconfirmation vote, basically it will only take into account those that find themselves there for those 30 minutes which won't really make it majority vote but snap vote that can override the vote depending on who is absent or not.
Would you prefer for it to be longer? A 30 minute vote would allow those who check in to see the threadmark, come in, and vote. It isn't MEANT to be a long drawn out vote but rather a short "You sure?" vote.

Most people tend to check their phones at least once in a half hour and a decent amount will probably check the site.
