To be honest, I'm not particularly keen on simply leaving the Chiselwards now that we're here. I think it would be beneficial to help out so we can clean this area out. However, our ability as an assistant commander in this area is likely to be more valuable overall while giving us more flexibility to respond to trouble areas.

As such, I'll be voting:

[X] Remain here and help Ulthar make sense of the reports flowing in.

[X] Remain here and help Ulthar make sense of the reports flowing in.

This makes sense to me. We're here to accelerate the clearing of the Chiselwards so that the forces here can be redeployed more quickly, and this seems like the most effective way to do that.

I wonder if, when we get downtime, actually being taught by a dwarven general/ranger commander about guerrilla warfare and how to exploit the enemy's beliefs about your troops' positions would help with developing Fog of War spells.

If anyone wanted to stay and chat with Ulther but approval voted to go down to the highway because it wasn't a bandwagon at the time and you didn't want to play with mushrooms, it's currently 36 : 38!

@BoneyM could you remind me where each of the journeymanlings should currently be to the best of our knowledge? The Ambers are intercepting potential attackers above ground IIRC, but what about the other three? Sending Panoramia to the mushrooms would have been cool.

Also, could we combine two options in return for less impact in either or something? Like:
[X] Go to the Mushroom Caves...
-[X] And collect a few samples in danger of being destroyed in the fighting, then join the attack.

[X] Remain here and help Ulthar make sense of the reports flowing in.
[X] Continue downwards to the Grand Avenue.

Not gonna bother with cutting down a few Snotlings or cut mushrooms while there's a fullscale attack ongoing that could run into serious trouble any moment.

Something to consider if people are worried about the Highways is how valuable the Rangers would be at getting early warning of incoming attacks and how useful the Slayers would be if a big gribbly comes down the Grand Avenue. They can't be used there now though, because they're busy here.

A thought about the spiders though. They're very unlikely to have torches in their tunnels, because of their webbing. They're also very unlikely to use magic weapons. That means if they do withdraw and concentrate their forces enough to produce a very hard nut to crack then Mathilde would be an ideal counter.

They may be immune to Terror, but that won't stop a Shadow Substanced Mathilde from massacring them in the dark. She can pass right through the webs that would tangle up the dwarves, and she's basically invincible against them.

That's probably not required quite yet, but if she stays here at the command post she'll be available to intervene if the situation there does get problematic. It's much better than throwing valuable Slayers at them.

I'm not sure how possible this is, but if the Spiders are retreating consistently and in a predictable pattern, the Rangers might be able to force the spiders to retreat into the Goblin mushroom farms or the Squig areas. It would force two "factions" of the enemy to fight each other (one for space to retreat, and one for space currently inhabited). If we can force our enemies to fight each other, all the easier to pick off the remains.

That one sounds like a good explanation for a good dice roll, so something that's a feasible and historically used dwarf strategy in the right underground geography. Large connecting tunnels between the areas and such.

In and of itself it doesn't sound flatly impossible.

Something else to consider is that while spiders in Warhammer are generally immune to psychology, there's an exception for fire (in the more granular roleplay). If we wanted to try driving the spiders in a particular direction then if any of the dwarves has a weapon with the Rune of Fire that might be very helpful.

Unfortunately Mathilde doesn't know how to create illusions so she can't help with herding them directly.

Or...figure out where the squigs are. Goblins are dumb but cunning and waaghy bullshit enough to play peekaboo with cavalry the size of bears.

Torc of Fire: A reward from the Bright College, it inspires allies and intimidates enemies when activated. Lasts a few minutes, requires fire to recharge.
Think this might help?

Not sure we need quite so many tallies?

Learning about Fog of War guerrilla intelligence command was a reason I switched votes, too.
