And yet it was all too convenient to justify, wasn't it. Please, leave this stuff to someone who isn't being a hypocrite when they interject on something this.
Alternatively, maybe being a QM and separated from the goals of the playerbase has given Azel a different perspective.

Also, since I didn't really get the chance to react to it before with everything going on:
HOLY SHIT @Azel IS A QM NOW. I'm so excited! High intrigue foes, competent rivals, and end to Viserys's rampant snowballing through the seven kingdoms! WOOOOO

You know, I made an angry post a while back. It really was excessively snippy, and barely constructive at all.
Then I realized what I'd done, and I shut up.
Everyone else should do that too, it helps us avoid getting too snippy.

It has. Massively so. Seeing this thread for a good while from the other side of the screen and reading the entire discussion while being unable to interact with it was... sobering...

On that note:
To be honest I never thought they were a joke. A gigantic future pain in my ass, a colossal shit stain spread across a continent, a land festering with so many problems it'd take a normal man a hundred years to fix it yes, but not a joke.

I see this as a first step in fixing our Faith problem. Getting them to actually see the threats hovering on the horizon instead of staring at our scaly red ass all the goddamn day.
This here is beginning to remind me of the 2 minutes of hate. Please cease.

[X] Plan "My Turn"
-[X] "Before this discussion progresses any further, Lady Danelle, let me make one thing clear. Your friends are free to go, and Lucan's along with them, either now if you wish it or released directly into your custody when we are finished here. With that said, and you having spoken your mind, I would appreciate it if you let me speak mine."
-[X] "I have all too often seen mages bound to service, not through oaths willingly given or loyalty earned, but through enchantment, curses and worse. Surely you are familiar with Tywin Lannisters' Golden Shields? I've yet to encounter one who was not magically bound to serve him, regardless of their willingness. The Citadel? They sent a spy to infiltrate my Scholarium, one who had been branded through magic such that he could not disobey the Maesters holding his leash on pain of death. So yes, when I heard rumors that Lucan practiced similar atrocities, I believed them. After all, the man had already proven himself my enemy."
--[X] "You are familiar with the Angels Lucan has Called into his service, I believe. My first encounter with the works of a Chosen, of Lucan in fact, was one of those, the soul of an ancestor empowered by the Seven beyond all others with a Divine mission to kill me. He did not succeed but for one thing; poisoning my opinion of your fellow Chosen."
-[X] "You ask me to let go of my fears, and I wish I could do so. But how much time did Lucan spend to summon Baelor the Blessed, time he could have better spent ridding Westeros of those monsters with the power he has been granted by the Seven? Why send my ancestor to slay me when there are more Devil plots in these lands than can be counted on two hands?"

One wonders if the tally counts the not pastel one as the same vote.

Edit: It does and now I'm on top of all the name voters

I'm sorry, was there something productive here you wanted to add?

If you are that angry you can yell at me in PM, but I would really rather not keep fighting here.

And as someone who has dragged people into shit I know thats hypocritical of me, sorry.

edit: I am also excited for Azel being a QM.

Just deal with it in a manner that will satisfy our Old God allies and I could care less if the faith is united. if it isn't necessary then so be it. That is the main goal now tbh.

Holy shit Azel grew a conscience. Do I celebrate for what is, or cry for what was?

Nah that's what the Vodka is for.

Also sticking with the Goldfish vote because until I get an explanation on the innocent KINGKILLER that just so happened to be created from our ancestor who was so pious he starved himself to death I'm not eating a single spoonful of crow.

The only reason we are doing all of this in the first place is to protect and aid the people of Westeros. Please do not refer to our subjects as "a shit stain spread across a continent."

Seriously, folks...

We're all adults here. Can we please be civil to one another?

Can we dial back the insults, snippy comments, passive aggressive comments, and sheer bile and just enjoy ourselves?

People, I have to just sort of be explicit about his right now, but @Goldfish's vote will not work. She is not listening for justifications. The minute we release the hostages, she will dart within bare inches of polite farewell to go and confirm their safety, double and triple check them for any missing parts of added bits like enchantment.

We explicitly need a break between compromising with her, and meeting in peace with her and Lucan.

And all of the concerns that Goldfish's vote expresses? Can be covered by undergoing clear communication with the other party. Lucan was (probably) involved with Baelor being summoned to the Material as a suped up King Killer. Why? We don't know, but I bet you Lucan will contrive a reason to bring it up, or give us cause to reference it. But thrusting it in her face right now is counter productive.

I encourage you to read my vote and the underlying motives behind it that I discussed in the last couple of pages.

I just got back from mowing my grass and have been wading through three pages of mean spirited shit. I was just about to comment on your plan when I saw your latest post. I think it will work.

we headbutted a god not a few months ago
If only it was a god. That was an Elder Evil.

Mind Blank doesn't actually work the way that we were left to assume it has for more than a year OOC. And the first sign we get of this is the vulnerability being used against us.
That caught me flatfooted, too.
And then stack upon that how we are given no chance to actually fight the charges Danelle has just thrown at us. Not even slightly. It's 'accept this proposal or gg' from all appearances.
This.
...On the one hand, this is idealistic to the point of insanity. On the other hand, these people are insane.
Hmmm.
:thonk:
The Lucan arc exists because I wanted to give you guys an enemy who was not an idiot or a monster, someone complex and thought-provoking like ASOIAF villains are supposed to be like. I tried very hard not to make a diabolus ex machina. To a degree it's an attempt to mirror Vierys and that includes the rumors maligning him.
To be frank, I don't overly mind. I've genuinely been having a whole lot of fun with the conclave, even if things really were not going our way since the beginning. Lucan being reasonable just made him more interesting, even if I was disappointed by him apparently putting the God as a person above the values which made him follow said God.

But the latest two updates... Weren't fun. The penultimate one had me going "huh, why am I thinking of Embra right now?". The last one had Viserys follow the plan like an automaton and it ended up looking like two entirely different conversations were taking place.
That said, man it really seems like the writers are just messing with established characterization just so they can "subvert expectations" and get everyone arguing about it online.
:V

@Crake I like your plan, as I was essentially building up to that after the Dywen X Lucan talk until DP burst that bubble.

But that's way too much weariness. Kidnapping Pixie was unintentional, our bad. But we had several good reasons to go after Lucan's entourage.

"Oh my, oh my, am so so sorry" feels fake.

I think the exhaustion comes from "Oh god I've actually lost" and "This is the second time this month someone's nailed me to the cross for my ethics." The tiredness seems more from wounded pride in my eyes.

"Oh my, oh my, am so so sorry" feels fake.

I'll adjust it, but just in general this entire series of events has been fairly training and bitter for Viserys so I feel some semblance of the "facade" cracking not only makes us more human, but honestly channels the thread's feelings, on either side of the divide about this arc.

[X] Plan Re-Evaluate the Course
-[X] In a single conversation, and all of the proceeding events of the Conclave, one thing has become apparent to you about Danelle: Not just sincerity, but of risk, compromise. She has come here to both act as a Martyr for Lucan to exploit for the sake of the people she hopes to defend, but also a statement in of itself. She has met you half way, and she is begging you to meet her.
-[X] You despise self delusion. You have chosen many rigorous, often thankless courses, stomped on lives like ants just in the course of an average day of rulership and statesmanship. What you have done is torment a woman who has done you no wrong and made her fret and put her life in your hand, with determination or resignation, it almost doesn't even matter.
-[X] Step back. Have Dany release the hostages.
-[X] With some fair degree of honest weariness: "Once you have confirmed their safety, I would like to speak, as I am now, with Brother Lucan." But not alone. During the next recess, Danelle and Lucan will meet with Viserys and Dany. You're all for accepting some more bitter truths, but not without the support of your sister.
-[X] There's no point in laying out a list of demands or motivations or goals. Hear out both of their concerns and their motives. If they care even a little about you hearing them out, they will share what they think is necessary, and you will tacitly ensure they know they can ask for clarification from you if it is required for them to share more. This time calls for clear communication, no more and no less.

Basically, "I'm too fucking old for this shit".

Danelle: "You're seventeen!"

"I've seen things."

Mmm, makes sense, let's use Goldfish's dialogue, if changed to fit the situation, after the break in a more relaxed setting.

When everything seems like a nail... I think we fell into this trap. Everyone that appears antagonistic must be squashed, we failed to investigate properly.
