The problem IS the system. Action explosion has finally rendered it unwritable, I don't expect it to get any better without splitting up a turn into more discrete chunks at a minimum.

While the research stuff is nice, I'm here to lead not-GGG and see giant robots punch each other. If you like using the rolls to dictate how the fight goes, keep it. If you find that the research segments are making it harder and harder to write the story in your strained free time, change it. It's simple.

I would suggest, take some time that you could have spent writing, and instead of writing anything, sit and think about the following:

[X] Modify.
Because, as the people have said, the system might be dragging you down. This quest already had a change of format, when the story got to a different phase. Another one won't hurt us that much. Or at all. Besides, as you think about how to do things, you might get inspired about what things you might actually achieve this way.

[V] Epilogue.
If suddenly a really kickass idea of an epilogue visits your head, and you write it down and realize that yes, it would perfectly fit right here - post the epilogue. Because anybody can do an indefinite hiatus at any time.

Yeah, its not immediately obvious, but the RP system had effectively committed @Basarin to writing an increasing number of sections per update even as it increased the number of decisions needed per vote to the point where its just one person proposing votes anymore.
We have entered an accelerating rate of acceleration.

A simple stopgap solution is to just divide the RP per turn by a factor of 4, and do the same to time spent IC. Go from Monthly to Weekly.

An alternative is to just commit RP to permanent sinks, have it pile up in Robot Construction piggybank(increasing the costs appropriately, and then we spend it all in one shot to make something ridiculous) or burned away in upkeep for facilities.

Whatever the case, we need to cut it down to 1, maximum 2 actions per segment. And a maximum of 3 segments per update phase.

[X]Epilogue

Our mission was to create a Super Robot, and a defense force that can handle threats. We have done that. Like you said we have created a brand new setting from our actions. Rather than continue to progress slowly making incremental improvements once a month or so, I think having a kind of ending or finality would make the best impact. It also means in the future, you could return or focus on a small part of the setting as a new story or quest-like the adventures of our magical girl, or a soldier with a talking transforming robot alien.

Hm. I'm in agreement. I like the idea of abstracting research stuff and reducing action bloat, though it's ultimately up to @Basarin .

Going to admit, this is more feedback than I was expecting. Half expected you all to have departed for the hills by now. :p

But it's greatly appreciated nonetheless!

So before I continue writing this post, I'm going to take a look at the tally, as there was quite a mix of responses.

...almost a three way tie, even. 0_0 I didn't think I had this many people following.

But having also gone over the responses some of you all had, I do agree with one bit of feedback. The system is getting in the way of writing, and getting updates, and getting to the parts of the quest that people enjoy.

...so if I'm going to continue this, a major rework of the system is needed. My initial thoughts (and this is something I'll need to mull on more, but I welcome feedback) is shifting to limited options per turn, rather than a point base system. I'll likely retain some of the point system for constructing the super robots, but in this iteration I would give you a suite of options for, say, Research, and the ability to choose a limited set based on your advisers, the nature of the research, and so on. Less options that you can take per turn, but give them much more impact.

This is not definitive yet, but I welcome the feedback. As I said before when I reworked this the first time, I'd rather ditch the system and start fresh if it's getting in the way of the Super Robot battles.

Your a victim of your own success. Your thread was so fun that I am already looking forward to your return to this thread. As for the task getting to large. Have you thought about getting some co gms.

To throw my two cents on this. I believe I once described this quest as playing the organization funding the Super Robots. Rather than the pilots/robots themselves. Given the size of our organizational turns, I believe this still holds true. If the purpose of this quest is to get to cool robot fights and saving the world, I'd recommend streamlining the base management/research portion of our turn, as we've put in due diligence in infrastructure and redundancies. Focus more on the bigger upgrades that would functionally change how our super robot works, rather than the aspect of keeping up with the arms race. That would be my perspective on this. But I'd be fine if we just wrap up with an epilogue and keep the setting open for others to work with, or for you to come back to it with new ideas.

[X] Season Finale

Which is basically a way of saying "Epilogue+Hiatus for now, but then you can rework the system to streamline it and then come back with a 2nd Season later".

So many Mecha shows anymore seem to do that anyway...
