Where will you call home now?
[x] Good riddance to Wurtbad; you've got a nice bit of land up in the hills and a commitment to invest in it, and some solitude will do you good. Lock up the Sunken Palace in case you ever need a safehouse in the future.

I feel kind of awful for Jack, thinking on it. We effectively drafted him into a really hard job where he had to work with tons of people who didn't respect or like him, enforce directives that they didn't appreciate, and our long-term plans never had the chance to come to fruition because we lost the job before that ever happened, so his skills were underutilized and unappreciated.

He deserves at least a nice going-away present, maybe something more significant. An offer to look us up and request assistance in the future if he desperately needs help and a Grey Wizard could solve whatever problem is facing him.

@BoneyM: Do we have any influence over Julia's coming actions? We know that she's ambitious and is in a fantastic position to make a play for the Spymistress of Stirland position- can we encourage that and/or back her somehow? I would like to have a friendly contact of ours in the Spymistress position very much and if the Elector Countess genuinely has nothing against us personally I can't see her giving up the chance to retain someone skilled and trusted by the previous administration when they're so eager to keep the job- and aren't a demon-explosion risk.
@BoneyM is there any way we can apologize to jack and make him realize that we just got fucked too?

Jack, the Master Thief, has had unrestricted access to a government budget and the inside track on the locations of every Watchman across half a province. If you want to reward him he won't say no, but you can probably rest easy about his end of the deal.

Except... we kidnapped, tortured and deposed one of their peers. They'll be happy to see us gone as spymaster, on the whole. Our rights to noble title is probably a little more conflicted than that.

Which were unproven suspensions and we do have Anton spreading good word for Mathilde.

Erm, we kinda do. Comes with the whole "Dame" thing. Plus, wizarding is a full-time job as well.

Title of noble isn't a job, nor wizard; those are more like direct personal power.

What the frick is with people and keeping Runefang? That is outright mutinous. And with the higher than likely chance that they know that we have it, we will probably have Witch Hunters gunning for us.

It binds us to Wurtbad and risks being confiscated depending on who we piss off. If it is part of the EIC, a strong official organization currently owned by us and Wilhelmina more so than by Stirland (but also owned by Stirland so that sabotage would make no sense) it is much more secure, with the added benefit of still being managed even with our complete absence.
The gong farmers are all over Stirland, it won't bind us anymore than the EIC and we know people won't realy care and the Elector isn't interested in actively screwing with us.

I'd support all of this. Networks of favours, like a proper Grey Wizard.

As you note, Julia is Ambitious, so there's no way she's not applying for Spymistress, but it would be nice to let her know she has our blessing and there is no ill-will.

QM ninjaed. But we should give her our blessing.

I realy want to keep Julia and the Network, QM said she would be okay either way and not only does the network synergizes with the EIC but I want to see if we can eventualy everae it to finaly take over the thieves guild and expand the ranadite cult.

Well the does not bode well for Stirland. The new EC is young, foolish and has effectively no council. Schultz and Gustav are the only ones that may have stayed but I doubt it given their dissatisfaction. Oh and the army is in tatters, with the Greatsword wiped out to a man.

or even answering the call of Belegar Ironhammer and venturing beyond the borders of the Empire.
Nope! One Mount Vietnam was quite enough thank you very much.

Some quests have average rolls. Some have blatantly dramatic rolls. This quest? This quest seems to gets crappy rolls for all the critical do or die moments.

To clarify things and hopefully cool heads a little: Roswita doesn't hate you and didn't insult you. She recognizes your contributions and even feels sorry for your condition, but as far as she's concerned people who have a non-zero chance of exploding into demons belong a looooong way away from her. Which I think is not too difficult to understand. So thank you for your service to Stirland, good luck in your future endeavours, and here's a letter of reference to help you finding work somewhere where she's not in the demon-explosion radius.
She told her spymaster to get lost without even talking to them. It would have taken her minutes to ask for a report and for us to help familiarise her pet Witch Hunter with our network. She didn't. She thought being in the presence of a wizard for even a few short moments was more dangerous than screwing over both her chosen spymaster and insulting the previous spymaster.
Girl is not fit to rule a province.

Reasoning: I do not want to see all that we have built go to waste. I also don't want that idiot to mess it up. We have a very solid base established and shouldn't throw it away just because of a bigot. We can keep our institutions ticking over while we study magic. Then go adventuring after we clear some of the backlog.
The Runefang, unlike all the other stuff, isn't personal property. It belongs to Stirland, or rather to the Empire. Keeping everything else though. If the fool isn't even going to hear what we have to say then she pays the consequences of that decision.

Is he likely to stay in the government or is Dipl0 Brat going to conduct a purge?

This part is fine, but does this include where Mathilde is going to call home or try for magister?

Honestly people, I'd quite like to go to Drakenhof. I want to end Sylvania as a threat and taking control of it's heart is the best option we have for doing so.
...
Anyway, as I said, my singleminded goal in this quest is to end Sylvania as a threat. That is the purpose of my plan, I think moving to Drakenhof is the best way to do it, and I think a strong Stirland is the best way to do it so I'm doing my best not to hinder her by giving her the network back.
I am entirely on board with ending Sylvania as a threat as our overall objective. However, I don't think that going to Drakenhof right now is a good way to do it, and why comes down to this:

We're not badass enough to rule Drakenhof.

"But @DarkLight140," I hear you say, "We just conquered the place and have thousands of soldiers garrisoned there who look on us as a hero and patriot of Stirland. Surely we can hold the place without issues."

Well, yes, all that is true. But the populace knows that we're the one responsible for burning down a good chunk of their city and hitting more of it with cannon and probably hate us for it, there are a bunch of vampires running around Sylvania who may come and try to assassinate (or turn!) us singly or in groups at any time, there are nasty gribblies in, under, and around the town which will inevitably flare up into problems on a regular basis, and the whole time that we're living in Sylvania we'll keep getting those dhar-tainted options popping up on our list of potential actions, sometimes more subtly than others. And since we're inevitably going to keep the Liber Mortis, should we eventually fail in our self-appointed task of keeping Sylvania under control and perish, then the book will be lying around for someone in Sylvania to find and probably set off another Vampire War.

Now, none of the above are complete deal-breakers. It's not impossible that it could work out, even if living in Drakenhof would basically involve abandoning a lot of our other existing interests and probably draw a lot of questioning looks from... essentially everyone. But can we rely on its doing so? No one's luck holds out forever.

I wouldn't be extremely opposed to setting up in Sylvania to fight the darkness at some point, but maybe give us a few years to become a Magister, learn more advanced spells, pick up some additional useful traits and skills, raise those Intrigue and Martial scores a bit further (because you better believe we'll be making a lot of checks off both), and read the Liber Mortis then stash it somewhere secure that the next person to find it after our death won't be a vampire or budding necromancer. When we are a staggering badass at the peak of her career, not a rising star- at that point, I will be willing to gamble on our odds of grappling with Sylvania and coming out on top instead of merely punching it in the face and going home. Right now, we will make a fight of it but ultimately be chewed up and swallowed like so many who tried to take on that place before us.

Would the turn structure remain as X actions for 6 months?
Does the college have authority to assign Mathilde to assignments post magister?
Approximately how much action is needed to move enchant lab and alter if we chose to move out of sunken palace?

[X] Plan Reap what you Sow
I'd rather give up the stuff that actually follows the job of spymistress, (Report and info network) but this is alright

All right, I think I've figured out why the vote tally is broken.

Please pay attention.

If you format it like this, the way I did, it works fine:
-[X] Give
--[X] Report on the past eight years
--[X] The Runefang of Stirland
--[X] Information Network
-[X] Keep
--[X] Abelhelm's repeater rifle
--[X] Liber Mortis.
--[X] Miscellaneous contents of Abelhelm's Study
--[X] Gong Farmers and Niter Factory
--[X] Discretionary Funds
If you format it like THIS, however, it freaks out and starts counting "give" or "keep" randomly.

Why? Well, I don't know the program's actual code, but I believe it's because the first tier votes (-), the items being counted, are all unique. The SECOND tier votes, however (--) are copies of one another.

It tries to count those, aggregates them, gets confused because there are identical second tier (--) votes nested below the unique first tier ones (-), and deletes the duplicates, giving you unreadable results.

Reformat your vote plans, and it should count them correctly. Otherwise, you may end up needing to sooth your frazzled nerves by eating as much ice cream as I just did.

[edit] please tell me it doesn't count votes in quote boxes... please...

I do not remember seeing that she'd be ambivalent about us taking Stirland spy network. Got a link?

Especially as your plan seems to be voting for keeping the Runefang- you know, the official Badge of Office of the Elector Counts of the Empire. If there's one good way to make her think we're planning a coup, keeping the network and the Runefang is it.

... My plans of adopting Van Hal's children have met a somewhat predictable and yet still unforeseen snag.

Though part of me really wants to see what it would've looked like had she rolled a 100 on that.

Sylvania is a silly place, good riddance to the place that kept going "Oh hey Dhar's preeeettty cool"
Hey, I take offense to tha-Oh wait, you said the place, not the players, who kept wanting Dhar.

Never mind then.

It would depend where you go and what you do. Sticking around Stirland and researching or managing your institutions will continue the six-month turns, as will becoming a councillor elsewhere, Magistership will be a few turns on its own, and no idea for mercenary or dwarf campaigning.

The College theoretically can, but outside of dire circumstances doesn't, though the Grey Order by their nature seeks out dire circumstances so there's more to go around. So as a Magister you can expect a hot potato to be dropped in your lap about two or three times a decade.

It'll take a turn to set up again once you get to wherever but that's it.

Though part of me really wants to see what it would've looked like had she rolled a 100 on that.

She would have been a wizard.
