May I ask why people want to hand over the Gong Farmers and Niter Factories?

She'd be able to find out about it and probably seize it on her own.

Anyway, I'm looking at my plan, and it looks properly formatted, but somehow it got fucked up? Anyone good with the formatting want to take a look at it and see why?

As for all the rest though... Well, she can just nationalize it anyway if she wants, and we'd have little recourse. If we drop it, then she doesn't really have anything to ding us with.

Anyway, it does look like we can probably get away with keeping the rifle at least, so I'll adjust.

The biggest weapon against evil is organization and money and I want to do as much good as possible. I also specifically want to defeat the evil that's here, but the point stands, we can do more good as a businesswoman and knight and as the head of an information network and as a mage then we can as a mage by itself.

Plus, this quest has changed a lot, yeah, and I'm fine with these changes, but I don't want to lose our secondary protagonist on top of everything else. Our second protagonist is Stirland here, because it's character and personality is pretty ever present in this quest.

Edit: I changed my vote so I decapitated this post.

@BoneyM how likely is the new Elector to be able to cause us grief for keeping stuff? People seen to beive she will come after us if we keep the network and gong farmers.

Everyone else's vote probably.

Wilhelmina is also going away in solidarity remenber ? why would she have that part of it?

The new steward will go through the book since it's their job and missing books will trigger spy master and count like it did us.

Is that speculation? And could she just outright seize it without recourse? I would assume she could force the matter if she wanted, but what would it cost her?

May I ask why people want to hand over the Gong Farmers and Niter Factories?

Personally, because I want Stirland to keep improving as part of our legacy, and the Niter factories will probably help with Stirlands finances immensely. We personally don't require quite so large an income source anyways. We should probably hang a plate on it saying "Founded by Mathilde Weber in 2xxx, dutiful servant of Stirland" just to rub it in

Huh. Is she genuinely suicidal? Is she really dumb enough to deliver such a blatant insult to a goddamn SPYMISTRESS... a frickin magical spymistress at that. Someone that quietly disappeared people from extremely secure locations more than once for her predecessor. While admittedly the response was controlled by dice and that sometimes things just go badly (we somehow botched -spectacularly at times- every role to save abelhelm) but I can't help but hope that theirs an option to remind the newly appointed Countess that yanking the chain of a grey wizard carries consequences either politely or less so.

I mean seriously every CK2 player knows the one Councillor you must have the loyalty of is the man/woman controlling what you see.

[x] There's another way to secure Abelhelm's legacy. Travel to the town of Drakenhof and sink your claws into it.

Staying in Stirland:
[x] Write in: Set up shop. Move everything you own that can be reasonably be moved to Drakenhoff and set up shop.
[x] Write in: Quietly remind the new Countess that insulting one of the most powerful people in Stirland carries consequences... Politely of course.

Politics abhors a vacuum; someone or something is going to seize power in Sylvania; the best case scenario is another count muscling in with the more plausible scenario being that another vampire 'family' takes control from behind the scenes (like the last three times). The worst case is yet another Von Carstein popping out of the woodwork. Better that the new power be us. After all we are completely trustworthy... stop laughing.

On the transfer of power. While there was always a good chance that the new countess would be replacing us (New count; new council) having her do it in the worst way possible means she gets the bare minimum. The Runefang; the report and the keys. That's it. Plus can we really trust something as rare and precious as Liber mortis to someone like that?

On the topic of the Runefang as tempting as grabbing it is, trying to steal an ancestral imperial relic will get us a short and painful encounter with the Emperors champion. It's just not worth it.

Lastly, while it's a petty form of revenge poking the new countess can at least be considered instructive as a) politics is the art of putting up with those you loathe and b) actions have consequences especially for someone that just lost three Councillors in 30 seconds.

Anyway, I'm looking at my plan, and it looks properly formatted, but somehow it got fucked up? Anyone good with the formatting want to take a look at it and see why?
First thought is that you have half bolded and the other half not bolded. Don't know if that makes a difference, but might be worth standardizing it.

Is that speculation? And could she just outright seize it without recourse? I would assume she could force the matter if she wanted, but what would it cost her?

It's in Wurtbad, the capital city of the area, something that's definitively part of her personal fiefdom.

She can't necessarily do it casually, but it's not really something that people would go out of their way to stop either.

And besides, just because the Elector Countess was a bitch to us doesn't mean we should try to sabotage our homeland. It's a solid source of income, and we don't need nearly as much now.

If we give the information network, will that potentially compromise our sunken palace?

I don't remember if we mind-holed the inn-lady about the entrance.

Also, if we have designs to pick up the info network in the future, then we shouldn't hand it over. No need to risk complications of informants having to report or choose between multiple spymasters.

Of course, if we do retain the info network, we risk the next spymaster finding out about it on their own and the resulting (potential) fallout.

We didn't mind hole her but from the text she appears to have some loyalty to us personally so she'll probably not rat us out unless she feels it necessary.

We didn't keep anything priceless in it that we can't just move to our manor when we move out.

Anyway, I couldn't figure out why the formatting was broken, so I just changed it to a one line "Give everything but the Repeater, Discretionary Funding, and the Book"

She just spat on her father's legacy as far as I'm concerned. She can have the official Elector Count stuff - the final report, Runefang, the information network, but we should keep the rest. ESPECIALLY the random stuff from his study. His HAT is part of that stuff. No way is she getting that hat. NOPE. As for keeping the rest of the stuff - rifle, nitre factory, and discretionary funds?

Rifle. Endless gunpowder. Enchantment (finally!). Secret palace. Funding. Free time. Enchanting Gunwizard!

[EDITED] I hope that fixed the formatting trouble... again...

[More EDITED] Now I'm just messing with the tally formatting to see what adds up correctly and what doesn't. I strongly advise against voting for this.

What? Alectai's the one going 'Let's not keep the Runefang because WOW is that a bad idea'.

That's not 'cut off the nose to spite the face'. That's playing it smart.

Now, getting rid of the factory and stuff, ehh we spent favor on it after all...

Hmm, and would the new Countess WANT the stuff we were involved in setting up? I mean the taint of magic might've ruined them in her eyes perhaps? So there may be merit to keeping them to ourselves.

Please guys let's not go all petty revenge for this MINOR SLIGHT. All she did was mouth off to us and tell us she didn't want us in her service. SURE that's a really poor way to handle letting us go for being a magic user and Spy Mistress, but we're professional about this. And don't want people coming after us with a grudge because we over reacted to a slight. We're leaving, letting the Stirland stuff stay Stirland and taking the stuff we have a solid enough claim on.

We'll be a Magister and then go from there.

Tally ho!

Well that was surprisingly uninformative.

Bullshit.

You start randomly seizing property and the entire premise upon which the economy works crumbles. Merchants leave and take their business, nobles demand satisfaction in fear that they might come next.

The League was blatant bullshit and we had to have through proof of their wrongdoings before acting.

Well, that was incredibly short-sighted. With one false step, she managed to clear the council of everyone that was loyal solely to her father. She is left with two spies, one AWOL priest, and no greatswords.
She's no worse off than Abelhelm was at the start of the quest, and probably somewhat better off.

Her army is decimated and she'll probably have a shifty suspicious lot as her councillors, but her castle is secure and Drakenhof is conquered at least.

People really salty all up in here.

Me? Whatever dudes. We served her dad, he was a decent dude, he's dead, time to move on. Give her her shit but not the Liber Mortis and go sailing for adventure

To be fair, the League's problem wasn't that we didn't have the power to take them, it was that we'd have a hard time taking them without them scattering and going to ground, so we had to nail the whole group to the wall faster than word could travel, by lining up everything just right

Nobody gave a shit about it, hell, the local guards got in line on command.

This is nowhere near that scale.

I mean, if she's going to take our businesses, the Gong Farmers and Niter Factories away from us .... hows that different from the EIC? Or even our estate?

Why would she take that away from us and not the other things? It's just a business after all, same as the EIC is which we own a huge portion of. If she can take that away from us and would do it solely because either we are a mage and she doesn't trust us or she just flat out needs the money why wouldn't she take away our other sources of money?

Even if it's a territory thing the EIC runs through Stirland and is probably centered around Wurtbad so it's basically in the exact same situation.

Is there something I'm missing here?

I don't remember if we mind-holed the inn-lady about the entrance.

A complex question. If Mathilde stayed in the city then the count would have reasons to find Mathilde's lair due to distrust. But if she went back to her fief then the Count would view it as the Wizard heeding the undertone and get out of her (count) way. Which makes Mathilde less of a target.

The inn lady and other property owners have not had reasons to talk, so it's unlikely. But we can seal up the place and mind hole everyone nearby.
