Keep the rifle, keep the book.

Rifle as a memento, book for safekeeping (with the elector countess' attitude towards magic, I wouldn't want to just hand it over).

I'd also like to stick around in Wurtbad. You know, keep her on her toes. Who knows what we're doing just outside her keep. Look at us! Buying groceries, chatting with friends. Reading *impure literature*! And the Liber Mortis.

Honestly I'd keep the contents of the study and the liber mortis, maybe the gong farmers and niter factory given we spent some of our dwarf favor on it. I'd also stay in our sunken palace, given it has our enchanting lab and shrine.

[Among a great many rolls to generate her attributes and attitudes:]
[Her attitude towards magic-users: Roll, 9.]

Then she steps outside the formality of the greetings. "My father spoke well of the service you provided him," she says, her voice stilted and formal. "I thank you for this, and will provide you with a glowing letter of recommendation. It may be that the curse of magic you labour under is undeserved. Nevertheless, I will not take the chance, and release you from your service to Stirland."

Your eyes narrow as you stare back at her wordlessly, and she leans away from you as the silence stretches, nervousness growing in her eyes. But then you incline your head. "As you wish," you murmur.

HAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAhaaahahahaaa... hoo. All that debate, and she takes one look at us and is like, "Nope, g'bye."

...eeeheheeheee...

Honestly I think we should keep the repeater rifle, we are shopping for a gun and while we are way out of line to take the runefang the gun is something she won't even know about.

@BoneyM Rifle skill is different from pistol skill right?

Did Wilhelmina stay?

Yes, your proficiency is with pistols. There'd be a bonus for training rifles since you've got pistols but you'd still have to train it.

And you're not sure if Wilhelmina stayed, since she lacks Anton's... Anton-ness and didn't run after you, but you'd guess not and I'll OOC confirm it since it might effect your planning.

You know what, even if we haven't filled out all the spells we might like, I think this is the best time to go test for Magister. We've lost our previous obligations and not yet picked up new ones. Any other time it'll quickly turn into "later, after we finish X". Mathilde's Mystical Matrix has been in print for what, two years now? We've demonstrated scholarship, learned various magic, done deeds for the Empire.

It's unlikely for Mathilde to keep the information network if we give the anti-wizard count the report. Since it would tell her we were the one setting it up, as well as Jack had a less than respectable background.

The Dwarfs have never let us down!

Anyway, the way I see it. If she was at least reasonable about the severance--or even just came up with a token excuse--I'd have given her the Liber Mortis. But she's amateur enough that she flagrantly went "Yeah, I'm firing you because you're a wizard, your competence and ability doesn't matter compared to that". If we hand it to her, then she'll either burn it (And us for good measure, because we laid hands on it and thus must be tainted), or she'll hand it over to the Cult of Sigmar (Which--at least in this age, has shown itself to be politically motivated enough that they'd probably fuck up containing it).

The Dwarfs did us a hell of a solid back there--and more importantly, we're an Enchanter. Literally nobody in the world is better at that then the Dwarfs--and there are few ways to more legitimately earn instruction than assisting in one of their campaigns. Asarnil was a close second mind you, but ultimately, he needs the backup more.

As for the stuff we're handing over... Well, to be blunt, we can commission a rifle of our own. I want as little reason as possible for whatsherface to suspect we're holding out on her, so she gets everything except the one thing she shouldn't know exists (Because if she knew, she'd have demanded it back, or just had us shot the moment she laid eyes on us). Discretionary Funds at least we can justify as severance pay for the zero notice firing on flimsy grounds.

Well now I'm feeling spiteful. We obviously need to give her the runefang but I for one want to deny her everything else. Even if we can't afford something I would rather torch it then hand it over to her.

It's almost as if there's inherent flaws with the concept of inherited power.

*Looks at previous and current POTUS*
...Any type of transfer of power really. Different people have different beliefs.

Either way. I believe we should go coach at Anton's while we conduct research and prepare for magister exam. Even our master feels we're long overdue to pass.

Quick question @BoneyM might I ask what the difference is between staying in our Sunken Palace is compared to our Estate? Also if we stayed can I assume that we can approach the new spymaster and size them up?

To be honest I sort of want to stay in our palace doing magical research, while keeping our ear to the ground and occasionally showing the new Elector Countess why it was a bad idea to fire us by out preforming her new Spymaster. Like leaving a message in the spymaster's room with a detailed report on a threat or something like that.

Hmm, true enough. Getting registered as a Magister first wouldn't be a bad idea.

I'll have to consider this.

Actually, hang on, I'm going to revise a bit.

EDIT: Done, I've changed my plan to just focus on the "What we give and what we keep".

We keep our severance pay and the Liber Mortis--the former because it's at least a reasonable "Fuck you" that she'd have a hard time giving us much shit over, especially given the "I don't care how competent you are or how well regarded my father was, you're fired because you're an icky wizard" she pulled on us. The latter because that very attitude means she can't be trusted to protect something that needs to be kept secret that hard

Tall, but thin, her hair short-cropped and looking unsuited to the leathers that she wears. Late teens, early twenties, if you had to guess, with a sword on her hip and carrying herself with the awkward over-awareness of someone who has yet to grow into the instincts of combat. You glimpse fear and doubt in her eyes, but kept at bay by a will of iron. "I," she announces, "am Roswita van Hal. The Elector Countess of Stirland."
She's a kid. Like, has she even killed her first non-mook yet? Of course, normally kids who end up as Elector Counts have friends and something of a reputation from being raised at court, and if not they at least have their parents' old friends around in council to help them out.

She's basically unknown, being raised in hiding, and just torched her father's council and is going to have to scrounge up a spymaster, administrator and diplomat from somewhere. So she's in for a rough time.

Why would we want to stay in semi-hostile area? The new count hate wizards, the Watch hate our gut, and we have a fief where Mathilde is the law.

Honestly the 2 things that are most important to me are keeping the Liber Mortis and just dedicating some time to research to catch up on all those projects we've got and learn more spells. Testing for Magister would be nice to.

-[X] There's another way to secure Abelhelm's legacy. Travel to the town of Drakenhof and sink your claws into it.
-[X] Traditionally, a Journeywoman journeys, flexing their arcane might and seeing the world. Find Asarnil and seek instruction in the fine art of being a mercenary - one that only serves the Empire and its allies, of course.

I only caught up recently and don't know much about the voting culture here, but being a mercenary seems like it could be fun, not to mention the probably not cleansed tunnel network underneath Drakenhof.
