I don't really get why dog breeders is so high up. They don't seem to bring much to the table, and unless we take it with Promote Internally I don't see the morale hit being worth it.
Consider character creation.
[ ] Rat Catcher: You fought the secret war under the cities of the Empire against the ratman menace. A filthy but necessary job, what you lack in refinement you make up for in the ability to win a fight in a pitch-black tunnel with a small but fierce dog as your only ally.

While we can't really afford to hire the smuggler at this point because of morale, the dogs are a nice consolation prize. They can help fighting the War Below when trained properly and serve as loyal companions to people fighting underground - alone - for various lengths of time. Which is kind of what we've been setting up the Watch to do.

I can't imagine all the vets above-ground are so gritty and grumpy that they'd get upset they have work dogs either. I'm hoping it has a positive effect on morale, but if not there are still plenty of practical reasons to invest in them early.

There's actually a lot of uses for dogs in the watch, most of them mirroring real life police dogs. Besides being dogs, they can be trained to perform several duties, the two most important ones I can think of would be 'sniffers, dogs trained to locate specific substances by their specific odors i.e. like bomb or drug dogs, and 'hunter/Shepard', dogs who can be used in conjunction of watchmen to track and take down criminals.

It may not add much to the rolls, but none of the other options do so either. It's mostly narrative.

Switching out pistol for internal promotion, guns are 1 shot in a battle and not exactly cheap to roll out as standard weapon.

Okay, the trainers are too good to waste them on morale issues. How about we select the best trainer possible and waste an action to throw money into morale problems?

Why do you think there's a morale hit for dogs?
I think that every unconventinal option is a morale hit. In Stirland they don;t really like unconventional options. Also rememebr that thread's obsession with underground fighting doesn't make sense for anybody but Jack, not even for Mathilde herself: Skaven are but a little known myth here, and there's nothing else of import down there.

As has been said the whole point of finding trainers was to help improve the morale of the watch so promote internally makes sense. Dog's are man's best friend so will probably also help.

So it's time we got some real intelligence done on the enemy forces. Fortunately, we know someone who seems to be in the know and since she's clearly a loyal tax paying noble it makes perfect sense to arrange to have tea with her and have some discussions about what she knows. And if her information is good then perhaps she would be amenable to keeping us informed on a more permanent basis in exchange for certain privileges (perhaps her genealogical records will be conveniently found and witch hunters will be informed that there's clearly nothing of interest going on here).

So since we're about to have our final push this would be a great time to know what the enemy forces are capable of and what they consist of. If we're really lucky we might even manage to have Gabriella perform some sabotage to weaken our enemies or pull in some orcs to cause a distraction.

Edit: removed the subvote --[] Preferably at noon with your greatswords from dealing with the countess. I assume that Weber knows to be careful when dealing with a vampire and doesn't need it explicitly stated.

The most likely method for holding a meeting will be during the day, outside and with a large contingent of guards but I doubt Gabrielle would try to attack even if we don't take precautions since Weber was in close quarters with her once before and was fine.

As a reminder - This is the last Purge Turn before the assault on Drakenhof
So if we want to get intel on the enemy this is the time to do it, since otherwise it will be too late.

A revamped version of the plan I introduced a while ago, it's focused on attempting to see if we can gain information from the Gabrielle who has shown an uncommon level of knowledge about the goings on in Sylvania. This is especially important since this is the last purge turn before the assault on Drakenhof and we're in charge of intrigue.

(I've cleaned up my previous plan from it's initial conception. Ranald's blessing has been added, the sub vote removed and the plan name has been changed to give a better idea of what the plan is attempting to do.)

We've integrated the Rat Catchers with their dogs into the Watch, though. Doing so was unconventional, but I'd be surprised if "more dogs" gets us a second hit after that. Also, Pistoliers seems like it might be a morale hit too considering where we're getting gunpowder these days, so I don't think conventional is necessarily the same as morale, even if it overlaps a lot.

Would be fun to keep doubling down on the underground defences, hire dwarfes and build fortifications, only to eventually find out that there are really no Skaven anywhere bear Wurtbad, nor are they the least bit interrsted in coming.

I think if people have issues with the dogs it will only last until they chase down a criminal and starts gnawing on his leg or start growling at some vampire trying to sneak into town.

Intelligence.
Accidentally had my spell check off, looks like there was a good 3 mistakes in those 3 paragraphs. I had no idea how reliant I'd become on it.

Has it been mentioned about what it would do to our* expenses if we went with pistols? I mean we are currently fighting a war, it seems like now is not exactly a great time to start buying lots of arms for the watch.

*well not so much our expenses as Stirland's expenses.

Morale is IMO important enough that internal promotions wouldn't be a waste. We want the Watch to work with us, not force us to work around them, and I'm concerned that continuing to ignore their feelings on Watch policy in favour of utility will come back to bite us.

There's a difference between the rat catcher sub division of the Watch using dogs, and introducing dogs to the Watch as a whole.

This is Warhammer, and when dealing with general population, nice things are not allowed because everyone is a shit and lol!chaos. So any departure from the norm is bad, but would it be reasonable to ask how the MC would measure the watch comparing different=bad to puppies! ?

'cuz I think puppies are morale boosters in general, buttt, different=bad. Hard to judge how it might be viewed.

Having a pistol is a sign of status and prestige, usually only nobles have them. It's going to be appreciated.
