I find it funny that while Yes and No are tied at the moment (or were, until Pyro Hawk ninja'ed me in the right direction), the winning plan assumes we go ahead with writing the paper.

Mathilde's a wizard. Specifically, she's a wizard of Ulgu, bearer of the sword of truth that separates understanding from ignorance. Being content with half-assing magical study will get her killed. There is no room for half-measures or not completely embracing the mindset required when you're a wwarhammer wizard. That's the kind of thing that leads to death or corruption. Success is all about cultivating exactly the right kind of obsessive compulsive disorder and related forms of emotional insanity/inhumanity.
It's unusual that Matilde hasn't met any other wizards in Stirland. There should be lots. For example, the Jade College is and has been running a massive indefinite program of decontaminating the Stirland/Sylviana border regions for decades, it's one of that Colleges major focuses.
She should probably have a look to find out why they're keeping a low profile.

We're not her family, we have no right telling her how to deal with them or how to deal with the business unless it relates to our own affairs.
I'd encourage you very strongly not to try using information that you couldn't possibly have in canon, one reason being that this quest started in 2470, not the 2520s of canon.
You could try, but it'd be more likely that it'd burn your relationship with Wilhelmina. Families can be like that. How sharper than a serpent's tooth, and so on.

We are her friend. Which means we have to tell her the truth, even if she won't like it. Her kids are causing trouble and it's growing worse. Soon they might even ignore her orders and break something as they decide to do what they want.
Talk to them, threaten them, cut them off, anything. She has to do something or they will just walk all over her. We are not telling her what to do, only that there is a problem and she has to recognize that. If she decides to do nothing after that then at least we tried.

What the hell, man? Wilhelmina's sons wanted to raise prices and make a profit, and Wilhelmina overruled them. This is far, far from "they will just walk all over her". On what basis do you say they are causing trouble? Having a dissenting opinion is not trouble. It is definitely not worth micromanaging other people's lives for.
